Love it, Andy! It's great seeing you breakdown the whole plugin for everyone. BTW I made that Ambient Lake preset (as well as many more) for Portal. Great video.
Best demonstration of what this thing is really capable of that I'be come across so far here on TH-cam. I appreciate that you're not afraid to push it to extremes to display how truly powerful it is! Thanks :)
@@AndyDollerson You talked about each elements of the plugin, other people show only effects of their tweaking works ;) Your video is extremaly usefull and only one which build a whish in me to buy it :D
I can (and have) spent many hours just playing about with portal on some simple patterns. It is almost hard to think of it as an effect as it performs almost like an instrument itself.
You know, I never did. I thought about it for a while - but if I remember correctly I lost a couple of the tracks, and never got round to re-creating it. Maybe I should....
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Just bought it for 35% off. All the other videos I see on TH-cam are fucking stupid and useless. Your video persuaded me to purchase the plug-in now that I see all of its capabilities and sound quality. Thank you.
Nice mate. 35% is a good deal! Hope you enjoy. I'll be putting out some free presets at some point in the future. Keep an eye on this video, as I'll prob link it in here at a later date.
The plug-in is awesome but I'm curious about the guitar you used it on, is it a sample? Or how did you get it to sound so choppy and cool? Awesome tutorial mate :)
Andy Dollerson Yes there are particular presets this happens with and I’m not sure why. “Grain Runner” is one for example. I am using this on a stereo signal MIDI synth btw. “Event Repetition” is another. “Particle Reduction”. “Trembling Time”. “Drone Shifter”. And there are a bunch more I’m sure.
@Kristopher Prophet Hey mate - checked it out. All working fine on my setup with stereo synth, and stereo samples. A lot of those presets you mentioned have some really wide stereo delay pinging from one channel to the other, so I don't know if that's affecting how you're hearing it? Portal doesn't seem to be too heavy on the CPU, but might that also be a factor? Sorry I can't be of more help for you!
Andy Dollerson I have a feeling it’s CPU related, but the signal never reaches my left ear, so it’s strange, I’ll keep and eye for CPU but usually it glitches and crashes when it’s overloaded. I am using a pretty dated DAW but the fact it runs the others presets makes little sense to me. Oh well.
Can I listen to this track or maybe your album somewhere? Liked it! Reminds me of the Audialist Select album :) Thanks for the great video! Portal seems awesome 👍
Yeah Portal is kickass. This track isn't out yet! I was hoping to get an EP out before the big Virus kicked off. Sub my channel, as I'll be releasing it here as well as all the usual sites. Thanks for your interest!!
Hey maybe? There are several pedals that do this sort of thing, but I don’t know if they would cover quite as much sound manipulation! Here are some covered in this ace article : pedals.thedelimagazine.com/the-16-best-glitch-stutter-granular-pedals/
Has anyone used Portal on an M1 Mac in Rosetta? Does it work properly? Looking to buy but unsure if it’ll work on my M1 as it’s not native compatible (yet)
Hey mate I have no experience of the reason synth but from my limited knowledge of it I would guess the main difference is that the reason synth creates sound using granular synthesis that you can then play as with any other synth? Portal is written as an effect so you can affect and manipulate live or recorded sound but you can’t ‘play’ it with a keyboard. Does that make sense?
Thanks for this actually great and informative demonstration. Also check one by Antony Baldino presets. Just got Portal and figuring out how to record actual performance in FL studio. :))
So this is an effect and NOT a sampler? So you can just throw this bad Larry onto any track and get weird with it? Well shit, now I have to save up some money.
What I love even more than the presentation is that you answered basically every single comment haha. That's appreciation.
apart from this one apparently! Thanks for your comment

Hey thanks for the compliment mate. And GREAT job on the presets!!
That's a great preset!!!
Excellent stuff! I need to see if I can muster up a little extra cash for this thing.
Hey, great preset bro!!
Best demonstration of what this thing is really capable of that I'be come across so far here on TH-cam. I appreciate that you're not afraid to push it to extremes to display how truly powerful it is! Thanks :)
Appreciate the compliment cheers!
Man, excellent sample choice for demonstration. Nothing I've used this for wound up this good, lol. Great demo.
Truly wonderful presentation.
Thanks!
Fantastic demonstration. Thank you
You’re very welcome. There should be more coming if you want to subscribe!
Incredible usefull video, best Portal presentation on the web! After your video I want to buy it! :D
Awesome video thanks for the breakdown!
Hey you’re welcome!
this gave me so many eargasms

Amazing stuff, will try this plugin as a rent to own from Splice. Thanks for the great overview
Welcome mate!
Quality presentation amd great sounds too 👍👍
Thanks mate!
First videos that is actually informative. Big thank you!
Hey thanks for the compliment Leo. Appreciated!
Probably the only one
+Hypercollapse haha. Doubt that’s true but thanks for compliment anyway! Can I ask what you liked about the video? So I can hone future vids?

Love it! Some great textures you've got there!
Thanks mate! Appreciated.

Anything in particular?
Great video - thanks

+Unifono2012 thanks!

Yeah it's fantastic. If a section of music hasn't got life, I can almost guarantee that something in Portal will fix it!
Did you ever release the final track? It really sounds great, probably the best use of this plugin I've heard.
You know, I never did. I thought about it for a while - but if I remember correctly I lost a couple of the tracks, and never got round to re-creating it. Maybe I should....
@@AndyDollerson That's a shame cause I really think the track had potential.
@@MrJfergs Thanks mate. I'll let you know if it ever surfaces
Thanks a lot man, keep it up. I like your channel
Welcome. I’m trying!

were using kontakt for the guitar with midi or was that you playing guitar sounds amazaing
Hey thanks Liam. I was playing guitar.
Great video. Subscribing.
+Lazarus101 thanks mate. Appreciated
your music is dope
Cheers mate.
The plug-in is awesome but I'm curious about the guitar you used it on, is it a sample? Or how did you get it to sound so choppy and cool? Awesome tutorial mate :)
Hey the guitar is my own awful playing - the chop is ALL Portal. It's a super rad plugin!
Have you or anyone had any issues with some presets being in mono? Only coming through the Right ear?
No I haven't. Can you elaborate? Are there particular presets this happens with? I'll try to re-create.
@@KristoferProphet Ok I'll check it out. I haven''t come across anything like that when I've been using, but I'll try to break it! I'll let you know.

Is there a guitar pedal out there that is similar to what this plugin can do??
Hey maybe? There are several pedals that do this sort of thing, but I don’t know if they would cover quite as much sound manipulation! Here are some covered in this ace article : pedals.thedelimagazine.com/the-16-best-glitch-stutter-granular-pedals/
seems very similar to infinite jets
Yeah def some crossover there
Has anyone used Portal on an M1 Mac in Rosetta? Does it work properly?
Looking to buy but unsure if it’ll work on my M1 as it’s not native compatible (yet)
Yep works great now!!
I was looking at the particle pedal from red panda but this video has sold me on the plugin instead
Nice. Sorry red panda. They do freaking great pedals!
check out microcosm
Have you tried Reason Granular Synth and how does this compare? :-)
Hey mate I have no experience of the reason synth but from my limited knowledge of it I would guess the main difference is that the reason synth creates sound using granular synthesis that you can then play as with any other synth? @@AndyDollerson yes, thank you for your quick reply! :-)
so this is like the big brother of grain delay stock ableton plugin??
+Variouss Tech Big brother on steroids that won the lottery and is now living the high life in Vegas. Yes.

Haha yep. Highly recommend saving that money. It’s a beast!
