    If you are reading this, congratulations on starting your PhD!
    I would add to the list - Be intentional about creating a peer-support system (cultural group, athletic team...etc) OUTSIDE of your lab, especially if you are alone in a new country. In case there is any sensitive issue, you know there is a safe space to discuss with people outside of your lab.

    I am in the last months of my PhD. I was missing the same points and strongly suggest the new PhD students follow your success formula. Why did you not start this channel three years ago :)

      Hellooo, I would like to know how was your process to be admitted in Stanford. I am studying a master's program now.

    • @luisdiaz1997
      @luisdiaz1997 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MissOrostegui It is pretty much the same process as of any PhD program, send letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, and your grades.
      The difference is just the faculty working at the school and the type of research they do, you want to convince them you are interested in their type of research.
      Also the amount of faculty interviews, Berkeley and Stanford is about 8 interviews, while Princeton and UCLA it was 4. Some schools it was only 1.

    • @MissOrostegui
      @MissOrostegui 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@luisdiaz1997 thanks for your answer. I will prepare myself for those interviews and asking for letters of recommendation in advance. Thank you. When is the process opened in the USA? I am in another country.

    • @luisdiaz1997

      @@MissOrostegui I think it opens either October. November. But most deadlines for the major programs are December 1st (few days before, few days later). Is safe to ask for recommendations three months in advanced.

    Toxic supervisors ? I can relate to that. They just seem to favor a certain kind of student of the female variety. But it brings home the fact how fantastic are the ones you get along with. Enjoying your Bonanza (no relation to the TV series) of tips & tricks.

    Thank you for all your tips and advice, DR. Andy! I will start my PhD journey this August while continue working part time. I enjoy your videos so much - clear, practical, and funny sometimes. Any advice on how to select research topic that is realistic for a PhD student who also work and want to finish in 3 years? Thank you

    Great advice for non covid times. Finished mine pre covid. Starting during lockdown 2020/21 wouldn't be able have that initial important contact, meet, ask people easily on first day, would need to rely much more on technology.

    I am just starting with my MSc (Thesis)- Chemical Engineering at University of Saskatchewan under very highly reputed Distinguished Professor. I am confused between continuing my Masters (2.5 yrs) and then work in industry to gain some more industrial expertise and then going for PhD or going directly for Direct PhD(4 yrs) . I have 1.4 yrs of work exp in Chemical Industry and another 6 months during my internship. I also have 4 months of Research Experience during my research internship. Since working as research student will be a different and new experience for me so I was bit anxious and nervous for choosing PhD. I am fearing that, If I don't go for Teaching line then will my fields be restricted and can only go for R&D jobs which are very hard to find in Canada or Can I still join Industry as process engineer or product engineer?
