Good review. Its only weakness are the Rugged Trail tires that come stock. Put on some high quality AT's or MT's and this truck will go just about anywhere.
I got the '05 2wd crew cab. I am a believer of Nissan again. I didn't get the 4x4. As a truck, Nissan upped it's game. I'm bad at maintenance 4-5,000 mile in between oil changes, changed air filter after tapping it clean a few times etc... I have about 112,600 miles and it runs great! Due for spark plugs(100,000 mile plugs) and the only thing I can say bad about it is the fuel economy now... When new 100 miles or so for 1/4 tank, now 1/2 tank..
I must say, that was a great truck review! That's how trucks should be reviewed, with the addition of towing capacity and cargo capacity. rated 5/5 I'm impressed. Please do more reviews like this. Oh, and I'd like to request a test for a Subaru Legacy Outback, the current one or the one coming up for the 2010MY. I'm wondering how capable Subaru's wagon is compared to small and mid sized trucks.
this is an ok review, most of your average truck buyer will not even take their trucks off road, pro4x frontier has eveything you need, good looks, power, locking diff, and a good price.
well both have the rear lockers, i heard the frontier was more comfy. the only thing that really set them apart is the house outet in the tacomas bed. thats just smart. just depends what you what. both are awesome
This is the best midsized truck the Tacoma has a fragile frame by comparison longevity that frame is going to mean a lot. better engine in the Nissan too Did I mention recalls for the Toyota
@leadnsteel ya agreed, Ive test drove the 5.0L 2009 F150 FX4 which has simular stuff minus offroad shocks, but with this nissian frontier you can actually park in a parking stall, and wont use as much gas, and who actually pulls more then 6500lbs w a half ton anyways, this Nissan works fine!
I have a 2005 Frontier Nismo, bought new as leftover @ march 2006. Really like the truck VG torque. Front Universal joint went out at 50k miles. Paint has actually been peeling off the cab on truck, Piss poor Paint Prep on Nissans Part. Myrtle Beach Nissan South Carolina won't do a thing about it. Excellent Dealer help. So while its ok to get your truck muddy it would be nice for the paint to stay on it
ya, because everyone wants to make their truck into a Baja race truck, or a rock buggy, or a mud bogger. some people want a truck that they can drive to work, to the grocery store, and still play at the OHV park on the weekends. get a clue. and the reason the Bronco boys put in their own locking diffs is because they didn't come from the factory with them, like this Frontier.
Mk. I'm 14, and i'm wondering, should i get a nissan frontier, a tacoma, or a tundra? I like the tundra because its a huge cabin, and i need a lot of room. I'm gonna be hauling my buddies around everywhere. The bed length doesn't really matter, but i need a good truck for the city, beach, and mountains (snowy or not).
i dont know if toyota has locking diffs, but if no then it would be the reason. when yes, the reason is that this truck looks better and i think it would perform better in the slalom test too.. :)
any feed back on the 4 cylinder engine? don't do much towing/hauling. it would mostly be used for transporting smaller loads such as furniture, bikes, lawnmowers etc.
This was the coolest off road review i've ever seen. But seriously i don't wanna sound dumb but, can someone just explain what he meant at 4:53 ? Thanks. (No stupid replies please)
This trucks so reliable and good that Nissan is afraid to make a new model Bc there probably afraid of changing anything. Outdated truck as far as technology but reliability is 2nd to none. Tacoma’s are great midsize trucks too
1. You can save $3000-$5000 on the Nissan. 2. More HP and Torque 3. Fully boxed frame 4. Solid bed with a much better tie down system 5. Interior is nicer
towing is the main difference. both the frontier and tacoma have excellent I4's, get the lowest gears available, if there is a choice. if you go with the 4 cylinder and are looking at this and the frontier, i myself would go with the tacoma.
both trucks are good it just depends on what you use it for the Tacoma is more of a off road aimed truck but both trucks are good if i had the money i would both of them
@05front You don't have the A-Trac or the resale value of a Tacoma not to mention the Nissan super charger pulls weak numbers compared to the TRD super charger. The pedal thing was a scam.
this reviewer sucks at acting but he does know how to test a truck. i love my 2004 frontier (previous model) but i would like to upgrade to this truck in the near future. even thought i liked the nismo name better then the pro4x i do like that nissan color matched the bumpers and mirrors, bot a big fan of chrome. the pro4x is a REALLY nice truck but the price on one is the same as a well equiped ford or chevy full size truck.
The difference is the Frontier has galavanized steel and full box frame of the Titan The tacoma is for those that do not know what the hell they are buying. The rest are not worth mentioning.
@chestermolester33 Sweet! Now if only they could stop when you want them to right? And if only Tacomas didn't have that frame rust issue until '04 when they were made all new... and oh shit those new ones have the same fender crack/split issues that the FJ Cruiser has.... A new Taco is NOT a better truck.
there are several versions of the frontier. it has manual and auto choice this is the king cab version- the CREW CAB is pretty big, it has plenty of room as the crew cab unless your a very husky person. check out more info at website nissanusa
I'm embarrassed because all he showed was basically 2wd stuff. Nice scenery though. If he'd done the quad hill at 5:24, that would have showed what the truck could do. It would do it, even fully stock. The only real 4x4 test he showed was the articulated section at 5:00, A cake walk even for a CUV/SUV AWD. The puddles can be trouble, like he said, but there was nothing in them.
God I want this truck so bad. It's a shame auto makers are shying away from mid size trucks. If everyone made a quality truck like this people would buy them. The worst midsize ones are the Ranger(very outdated) and the Colorado/Canyon(Worst P.O.S. redesign ever from GM) @ Spankybrandonf - I would get the froniter. I wouldn't even want to know how bad the gas mileage would be with the titan's 5.7 v8 not to mention a much bigger tank to fill up. Also depends if you are going to be towing.
I think the truck should have been put threw more harder obstacles, I have a 1987 Nissan d21 4wd that goes threw the crap he put that truck threw like a hot knife threw butter
Nissan built on a shortened Titan Frame with a an unstoppable engine hard to beat this truck and Toyotat mat tie it I sure wouldn't put Toyoat ahead of the Nissan
@chestermolester33 speed says nothing about quality, it just means that the tacoma is a lot lighter. the frontier, however, does have a higher towing capacity than the tacoma. nobody buys a truck to go fast, they buy it to tow and offroad and carry shit around. so who gives a fuck if the tacoma is faster? they are both good trucks; but no the tacoma is not universally accepted as the better one. alot of people just blindly buy it just because they love toyota.
there are several versions of the frontier. it has manual and auto choice this is the king cab version- the CREW CAB is pretty big, it has plenty of room as the crew cab unless your a very husky person. check out more info at pickuptrucks. com or try nissanusa. com
I would absolutely buy myself one of these trucks but only in the used car market place here people because I just actually really like buying myself used vehicles far more then buying myself brand spankin new vehicles because I just actually really badly want to modify the engine and transmission right away whenever possible here whenever I get the money to do so myself here man and if I bought myself a brand spankin new vehicle then I need to wait for warranty to expire for myself here so that I can definitely modify the Vehicle but on a used vehicle I can definitely start modifying it right away whenever possible here people because they're is no warranty left over
@1cipollone they are both good trucks, nissan out powers your Taco. both have same shocks, same diff locks and frontier is more affordable. Why laugh at us when your peddle gets stuck and crashes i will point and laugh.
Good review. Its only weakness are the Rugged Trail tires that come stock. Put on some high quality AT's or MT's and this truck will go just about anywhere.
0:10 now, it’s rare to see you test a normal car LOL
Nissan frontier is an excellent reliable truck. For the money, nothing is even close.
I got the '05 2wd crew cab. I am a believer of Nissan again. I didn't get the 4x4. As a truck, Nissan upped it's game.
I'm bad at maintenance 4-5,000 mile in between oil changes, changed air filter after tapping it clean a few times etc... I have about 112,600 miles and it runs great! this is an ok review, most of your average truck buyer will not even take their trucks off road, pro4x frontier has eveything you need, good looks, power, locking diff, and a good price.
You can't go wrong with either truck. It comes down to personal preference. Test drive both and see what you like best.
a wrangler is a wrangler though, this is just showing if you needed a utility AND some offroading, this is handy
well both have the rear lockers, i heard the frontier was more comfy. the only thing that really set them apart is the house outet in the tacomas bed. thats just smart.
just depends what you what. both are awesome
Your review style is unique and fun. May I please request an xTerra review from your channel.
This is the best midsized truck the Tacoma has a fragile frame by comparison longevity that frame is going to mean a lot.
better engine in the Nissan too Did I mention recalls for the Toyota
❤❤❤❤❤

it does have a manual option go to the nissan website you can order the pro4X with a 6 speed manual
Mk. I'm 14, and i'm wondering, should i get a nissan frontier, a tacoma, or a tundra?
I like the tundra because its a huge cabin, and i need a lot of room.

i dont know if toyota has locking diffs, but if no then it would be the reason. when yes, the reason is that this truck looks better and i think it would perform better in the slalom test too.. :)
Nice video. I want a Frontier now. What part of the country were you at?
any feed back on the 4 cylinder engine? don't do much towing/hauling. it would mostly be used for transporting smaller loads such as furniture, bikes, lawnmowers etc.
15 years ago and i ended up getting this but 2012 xterra pro4x.
This was the coolest off road review i've ever seen. But seriously i don't wanna sound dumb but, can someone just explain what he meant at 4:53 ?
Thanks.
(No stupid replies please)
gota love the locking rear diff.
great review
I'm looking into buying one, since you drove an 08 can you tell me some pros and cons about it, thanks.
This trucks so reliable and good that Nissan is afraid to make a new model Bc there probably afraid of changing anything. Outdated truck as far as technology but reliability is 2nd to none. Tacoma’s are great midsize trucks too
sick review..i need to go to them dealers and purchase one..
@Konformation07 It does come with a 6-speed manual. I should know because I used to own one of one.
1. You can save $3000-$5000 on the Nissan.
2. More HP and Torque
3. Fully boxed frame
4. Solid bed with a much better tie down system
5. Interior is nicer

now does this truck have the rear locking differentail
@05front You don't have the A-Trac or the resale value of a Tacoma not to mention the Nissan super charger pulls weak numbers compared to the TRD super charger. The pedal thing was a scam.
I see, thank you for your explanation.
Yeah, I've traversed worse in a 1998 Kia Sportage . . . most in 2WD! I was particularly fond of my 1995 Chevy Blazer, solid off road vehicle.
@ehsheeba
what year is your truck? you must have a first-generation frontier they were absolute shit. the new ones are great
nissan kicks ass.
yet tacoma outsells it 2 to 1 so it goes to show the best is clearly not the most popular... but I do love both tacoma and frontier
@leadnsteel Really? The Ranger was my second choice next to this truck.
I got an 05 frontier but its nismo 4x4
with locking differential
never used the locking differential tho
this reviewer sucks at acting but he does know how to test a truck. i love my 2004 frontier (previous model) but i would like to upgrade to this truck in the near future. even thought i liked the nismo name better then the pro4x i do like that nissan color matched the bumpers and mirrors, bot a big fan of chrome. the pro4x is a REALLY nice truck but the price on one is the same as a well equiped ford or chevy full size truck.
@GreatWhiteHyype You can get it in a 4 door. 4 door pro-4x 6 speed with 4WD.
The difference is the Frontier has galavanized steel and full box frame of the Titan
The tacoma is for those that do not know what the hell they are buying.
The rest are not worth mentioning.
think you got the numbers confused with the ones of a tacoma, frontier has less torque and more hp where toyota tacoma is the other way around.
@albaroingrid08 what is so bad about your tacoma?
Oh okey then. Thank you for your reply.
nice i might get one
It's a Nissan it can handle it , and then some!!
The Titan got cancelled so it's gonna be hard to test it... :P
@chestermolester33 Sweet! Now if only they could stop when you want them to right? And if only Tacomas didn't have that frame rust issue until '04 when they were made all new... and oh shit those new ones have the same fender crack/split issues that the FJ Cruiser has.... A new Taco is NOT a better truck.
love this car ;o
yep it's available in 6 speed
@Konformation07 you can get 5 spped with V6 just not in 4 door
Is this done mostly in 4low or 4high?
Why doesn't the Pro-4X have a manual transmission option.
is theree a manual version???
frontier is much smaller and likely better offroad because of that.
My 09 Off Road got through more than this truck did, my friend is already trading his Frontier 4x4 for a Tacoma haha.
Its not a Navara?
the toyote do have locing diff, and you dont by a 4x4 to drive slalom. Btw the toyota has more ground clearence:-)
go nissan d40's just bought a titanium eddition..... yeah boi!
yes it does
@multipototo weehhh?????? navara rulezzz
@THEMAN201111 I never said no. I meant No as he was wrong. It has a 6 speed for the V6. I have one also so hold your horses.
there are several versions of the frontier.
it has manual and auto choice
this is the king cab version- the CREW CAB is pretty big, it has plenty of room as the crew cab unless your a very husky person. check out more info at website nissanusa
Is it just me or does that truck look like a Navara?
most the people that buy this truck will never even come close to bogs or muddy dirt roads so that 4x4 challenge is more than enough for them
did he really say "dont try this at home"?? LMAO
both truck are made in the US
Nissan Frontier = Best Truck Ever
Nissan Titan = Piece Of Crap
Earl Rogers
Definitely has more power than a Tacoma!
i want to find this course for myself
I'm embarrassed because all he showed was basically 2wd stuff. Nice scenery though.
If he'd done the quad hill at 5:24, that would have showed what the truck could do. It would do it, even fully stock. The only real 4x4 test he showed was the articulated section at 5:00, A cake walk even for a CUV/SUV AWD. The puddles can be trouble, like he said, but there was nothing in them.
@rtepic kool,thanks
3:30 Finally! somthing i cant do in my civic!
God I want this truck so bad. It's a shame auto makers are shying away from mid size trucks. If everyone made a quality truck like this people would buy them. The worst midsize ones are the Ranger(very outdated) and the Colorado/Canyon(Worst P.O.S. redesign ever from GM)
@ Spankybrandonf - I would get the froniter. I wouldn't even want to know how bad the gas mileage would be with the titan's 5.7 v8 not to mention a much bigger tank to fill up. Also depends if you are going to be towing.
Can SOMEONE please tell me why the PRO 4X is ONLY AVAILABLE IN AUTOMATIC??? It makes no sense not to offer an offroad truck in manual?!?!?!?
I think the truck should have been put threw more harder obstacles, I have a 1987 Nissan d21 4wd that goes threw the crap he put that truck threw like a hot knife threw butter
Nissan built on a shortened Titan Frame
with a an unstoppable engine
hard to beat this truck and Toyotat mat tie it I sure wouldn't put Toyoat ahead of the Nissan
@surfmb70 No 6 speed for the V6
us aussies call it the navara...
@RnB123100 only in the king cab model
@05front kool thx :)
Where are these trails??
Nice truck but thats not really difficult offroading, I take my XC70 through far worse several times a month.
you know what funny, my 92 mercury grand marquis will do all of this lmao
give me that truck for a day and trust me ill make sure my tacoma will out perform and last that frontier! i put money on that!
ok thanx
BIG PUDDLESSSSSSS
analog face and design look for long times
@chestermolester33
speed says nothing about quality, it just means that the tacoma is a lot lighter. the frontier, however, does have a higher towing capacity than the tacoma. nobody buys a truck to go fast, they buy it to tow and offroad and carry shit around. so who gives a fuck if the tacoma is faster?
they are both good trucks; but no the tacoma is not universally accepted as the better one. alot of people just blindly buy it just because they love toyota.
is there enough room for an adult to fit in the back?
@RnB123100 yes 6 speed.
you shouldn't be because the Pro-4X is the Nismo
there are several versions of the frontier.
it has manual and auto choice
this is the king cab version- the CREW CAB is pretty big, it has plenty of room as the crew cab unless your a very husky person. check out more info at pickuptrucks. com or try nissanusa. com

4 low wouldn't even get him out? 4 low has nothing to do with this problem. Plus he called the trail a road and called the truck a car.
@1cipollone they are both good trucks, nissan out powers your Taco. both have same shocks, same diff locks and frontier is more affordable. Why laugh at us when your peddle gets stuck and crashes i will point and laugh.
My 2wd tacoma will own that thing
@arsinist01 thxs
@eXternal2007
the tundra doesn't compete with this
the tacoma does
