my grandfather made it for me when i was 8 and i was always playing with Lego. Now i'm 30 and the ship is in my new bedroom, with all its little damages i made as a child :D
Lucia:Thanks but I was not referring to attaching planks to the hull but to building the handrail. This is made by somehow gluing and shaping six 1mm x 7mm planks together and then cutting in half to make two handrails. I can't seem to understand the translated instructions. Thanks.Brian
ok ok, yes, the handrail is very complicated, unfortunately I don't have any pics about it... it's made of seven planks to create the right shape of the handrail. you have to put glue between each one and then without delay you have to support it beside the side of the boat (close to the top) to create the right shape. Obviously you have to isolate it from the boat with paper ribbon. Then, when the glue is dry, you have to divide in two parts the handrail and sand it down. Sorry for my english, I hope to be clear enough
Great video. Building my Astrolabe now just getting to the tapered part of hull planking. Question: the instructions for the rail are confusing. Do you tape them to the hull before applying glue or after? The instruction seem to indicate putting glue only on one end which make no sense to me. Any advice?Thanks again for the video! Brian
Hi Brian, thank you. Yes, firstly I taped them towards the bow (except the first eight from the top) and then I applied glue not only on one end but in every contact points. You can find a lot of video of this procedure, it's the same for all models.
