this episode is one of the few i was watching, sitting upright in my chair, glued to the screen. there was no end to madness and cruelty -man - could bring onto those unfortunate people. great episode. thank you also Reijer to find it and the download. hard to say here - thumbs up -...
As a historian of mental illness, I found this both entertaining and accurate. Most of this I was familiar with and have taught for decades, but hearing about the Monroe family was something new, thanks.
It's not without reason that Noel Langley, scriptwriter of the 1951 film adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol', has Scrooge address Bob Cratchit thus: '"A merry Christmas, sir." You, a clerk with 15 shillings a week and a wife and family, talking about a merry Christmas. I'll retire to Bedlam.'
The one picture of the moon in the frame of tree branches . Resembled the face of an old man... then you found that a few people would have family members incarcerated. To get their wealth etal. Then forgotten.
For to see mad Tom of Bedlam Ten thousand miles I'd travel Mad Maudlin goes on dirty toes For to save her shoes from gravel Still I sing bonnie boys, bonnie mad boys Bedlam boys are bonnie, For they all go bare and they live by the air And they want no drink nor money
It's July 2021-- is the excavation still going on? Can anyone give us updates or reference a website? I for one would be interested in further reading. Thank you to those who would respond.
gosh these doctors had no idea ...obviously thier treatments weren't working. should've used 100 leeches and made 2 cuts cuz it onv wasn't enough and they just looked silly.
One question...why did Tony put on the fall arrest harness?? He said it was so that if they needed to they could pull him out and he motioned with his hand to his back, where the rope would be attached, and then he goes down without being tied to anything. Weird.

Only slightly worse than the work houses of that time. The poor and crazy treated like vermin. Poor, poor souls.
Poor Alex. Somewhere, Matt is smiling.

give this some thought before you shuffle your parents off to an old peoples retirement home, and forget about them
Alex, you're one of my favorite experimental archeologists! :-)
It was the insane treating the insane.

Not a very old programme, but already Bishopsgate is almost unrecognisable.

The cruelly is sadistic.
What's saddens is that people are willing to justify it for a wage .....

All of the monkeys aren't in the zoo!
I sincerely hope this Monroe dynasty had their wealth seized and sent directly to NHS.
The original Arkham, perhaps.
Willing to bet Arkham was based on Joker would chuckle at that😊
What's with that weird lady that ends every statement , usually about torture , with an odd smile ?
She should present the evening news.
Probably feeling a bit self-conscious if not used to being filmed for television.
Constipation would be a problem caused by a diet poor in fruits and vegetables
I am human.
Not always a good thing😊
We barely saw any digging at all.
A place to put the wife when she finds out about the girlfriend or the rebel child.
Or like they showed a husband in the way of a rival.....

He pointed to the pull handles.
That's where the rescue crew hooks on with their ropes ......
Maybe this is where Mother Teresa got the ideas from on how she should treat the sick and poor. Pure evil, since by then, they knew better.
