Thanks for visiting our area of the country.
Glad you didn't lose your net! I know you're attached to it but it is a bit ratty :)... would love to gift you with a new net as a way of thanking you for the many hours of pleasure and inspiration you've gifted us! Let me know...Richard
Great video Drew. Cody's a cool dude for sure. Thanks for taking us along.
Cody is the man. Great shop too
It’s really nice fishing up there in Telico Plains. I caught my first Brown trout. There is a great fly shop in town. Telico Outfitters.
Hahaha! That encounter you had brought back a bad (now funny) memory. I was walking a trail at Hell's Hole on the Chauga River working my way around a steep section over a deep hole I'd just fished. I stepped over a small log and set my foot down on a loose root. As soon as the root moved I saw a yellow cloud boil up beside the trail. It took my mind a second to register that it was yellow jackets and by that time several had already "cut" me around my left ankle and knee (short pants). I instantly jumped off the high bank fly rod in hand into the hole which was up to my neck deep. My fly line tangled in a limb on my way down so I had to wait a while before I could get my line back on the reel, which I did very carefully. Loved the video, Drew.
I thought for certain you were going to say you stepped on a copperhead or s rattlesnake. That will pucker your butt for certain.
Haha...I was looking for a deep pool. Yellow jackets are vicious!
Such gorgeous streams in TN. Love those bolder strewn waters. Someday I'm going to visit. Wish we had wild Rainbows like that in the streams near me. You eat better meals out of the back of your pickup than I do in my own kitchen at home. ;-) Great stuff Drew!
Haha...I'm the only cook in my house so I gotta keep my skills sharp or the locks might be changed when I get home!
Great video Drew!! A lot of great info in there!!
Appreciate it!
Can't wait to travel there and catch some fish! Thanks Drew!
I appreciate you sharing about using a sunglass with a low light polarized lens. For me these are probably the most important piece of gear after the rod, reel, line, tippet, and flies for southern Appalachian small stream fishing. I use the Smith Redding with low light lens formally called low lite ignitor. Costa makes some like you pointed out. Sometimes you can also find a cheap pair at Wal-Mart.
Great video as always with great information and fishing footage presented in a super relaxed and approachable way. I'm glad you are out there doing this and appreciate all the work you put into scouting and making videos. It's helped my back country fishing out a lot in the NE GA (home waters) and Western NC areas.
Cody and Tellico Outfitters are AWESOME.
The Green Cove Motel is a dump.
That looked like a ton of fun. Some real drama 😎
Haha...gotta have some drama occasionally!
Enjoyed the video. Welcome to Tennessee, Drew. A wonderful state for the fly fishing enthusiast. Check out the fantastic tailwaters in Northeast TN.
Yeah, love it out there, you'll even stumble across some of those weird tangerine darters if you cast enough flies out there in the small streams.
Nice informative video drew, this is my region of the country, and that was blueline fishing at it's best. I say to heck with the bears, watch out for those stinging stealth bombers, they mean business. Enjoyed watching. Tight lines. 👍
Haha for sure those guys are serious and not much fun!
Yep, going to check it out. Not too far from NC. I liked the dog. Just chilling.
Welcome to the "neighborhood!" The Tellico and Citico Creek areas have become a main part of my annual Spring fly fishing pilgrimage to the CNF and GSMNP.
Amazing how the environment shapes the fish. The rainbows look just like brook trout--shape of the eyes and fins, more glisteny and softer flesh/skin, etc.--only lighter.
These are my home waters and the fly fishing is truly great! Nice to see a video on this beautiful area. Great video
Great video! I know how hard it is to fish these streams . Hazardous too. I have had some nasty falls on the rocks. You make it look easy . Love how you hook them.
Man it’s crazy you don’t have more subs! Top fly channel for sure.
Hey Drew, I noticed that you revealed where you’re fishing on this trip… thank you.
I’m new to fly fishing, but not new to fishing. I’m enjoying the nuance’s of fly fishing.
Being a newbie, I would like to know why fly fishermen don’t like to divulge their fishing spots?
I was told by other outdoorsmen that this is true, and fly fishermen have a snooty reputation.
You yourself don’t seem to fit that category. You are vary much a gentleman..
Thanks again for sharing your adventures with us. I hope you can share a little more info with you fellow fisherman.
Safe travels….
That’s a good dog
Great info!
Every once in a while mother nature stings ya. Nice video, eastern Tennessee has so many places to fish.
You got that right!
Well, the best way to keep it awesome is to post a youtube video about it where 12-40K people can find it awesome there, too. One big happy mass of humanity, loving to death every decent wild place within parking distance.
This was done in collaboration with my buddies who own Tellico Outfitters...so no chance to keep the location a secret. We didn't name any secret streams but I'm more than happy to help those that are trying to earn an honest living in the fishing industry!
Enjoyed your travel videos- is an e-bike something useful especially traveling out to Mt, ID, etc. I’m over 60 and looking at ways to enjoy my fishing
I love Tellico
Wish I knew you were going there, I am located 45 minutes away.
Off and any other product like that does not work as good on ticks as PERMETHRIN. I do a lot of turkey hunting in the spring and I've used off with deet and as high of a percentage of deet as I could find and always found ticks on me after hunting. My buddy told me about permethrin, I tried it that spring and did not have 1 single tick on me even after spraying my clothes, wearing, washing and spraying again. My cousin came with me last year, he had deet and found 8 ticks on him in the truck after hunting while I found absolutely none. You can find it at tractor supply in the equestrian section. Just following directions to mix with water in spray bottle, spray on clothes, let dry and never find a tic on u again! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE WHO SPENDS TIME HUNTING OR FISHING IN THE WOODS
Throw Drew some likes, great stuff
Mention how you changed your net position. A lot of people have been making fun or questioning why people put the net in the back of the neck/backpack!! Is it a sword?!! We have been trying to figure that out. If you catch fish why would you want to put a wet net on your head ! Doesn't make sense to me . Glad your coming over to the good side haha
Haha I only wear it high behind my backpack when I'm wet wading in the summer so a little water on my back isn't a big deal...kinda refreshing really. Plus it's easy to shake the net dry so a wet net is not an issue.
Cherokee National Forest/Tellico Plains is my backyard. Welcome to East Tennessee. Did you fish Citico Creek?
Had a good time. Nope never fished that one
What brand of wading pants are those? They look really comfortable.
Have you looked into the Savage and Gunpowder Rivers in Md?
I have not
What kind of pants are they? Thanks man!
Ah, my neck of the woods now. Been about 5 years, but I pulled a 7-8 LB brown out of the main river. North River good too, but lot of timber rats and copperheads up there. Thanks for the vids🤘
It was a cart to carry out deer during hunting season
Hadn't considered that
Hey Drew what style name are those Costas you wear?
Fantail pro's
