Why dont they use heavy duty safety boots instead of those girly sneakers when axing? Someone must have split a foot right?
Chain mail socks are worn under the shoes. The shoes (mostly Volleys) are used due to the feel and grip. Safety boots are bulky and wouldn't stop an axe scoop from underneath. The chances of hitting your foot on a downward blow are next to zero and if you did you shouldn't hold an axe.
