That and the sea moth. I loved dropping in from the pool and cruising around in it. I just couldn’t get into the sea truck in Zero. Wonder if there is a mod that will let you use the moth in below zero!?
I built an "Aquarium" base once that was a massive number of interconnected multipurpose rooms with alien containment chambers. I managed to put most of the species from Subnautica into them, pairing relevant species and plants as best I could. That was BEFORE the large rooms were moved over from Below Zero. Your video has inspired me. I MUST correct my mistake!
This type of stuff is so underappreciated. the time to find the spot, the base bolding, lore implications this must of taken you days, not even counting editing. This is awesome man great work. If you find some one to make it. you can make this base destroyed and old as a mod with data logs throughout the hole thing.
@@morgan4574 it's super sad because the Dunes biome is, to me, the prettiest of any part of the game ESPECIALLY at night. There are tons and tons and TONS of fish schools that just fill the area and the plants all glow and it's BEAUTIFUL.....but you can't really enjoy it, can't build in it (at least not me!), can't really do anything else there. And I'm on the switch so there's no mod for me to be able to just turn off the creatures (Creative doesn't do that) and just go about in a happy dance and enjoy the Dunes.
There's something about the thermal vents, together with tube-like corridors, flood lights against the blackness, and sheer size that give this a wonderful, eerie industrial feeling.
This looks something that would be in The actual game but lore Wise but you should make another base front of the Aurora because back then before the Aurora crashed there was a giant hole that lead into The lava zone so I think that would be a good idea to build a base there

If this was built in survival mode imagine how much titanium that would take. It is nonetheless impressive. Maybe a docking bay for deliveries via cyclops? But then theres the threat of the sea dragons firing, missing and then hitting the facility causing it to start flooding.
Titanium wouldn’t be my concern, you’re right next to the aurora. It’s the quartz and lithium for all the damn glass and reinforcements that would be annoying to gather.

I'm just going back and watching some of these types of videos and it amazes me how people can do this. Every base I've ever made has been basic but this is crazy good. Also the way the leviathans seemed to start fighting around the 4 minute mark was funny.
That's EXACTLY how we are supposed to play single player sand box games. I had more fun watching this video than actually playing. Ty for reminding me what is really important.

I'm late to this but this is by far one of the most unique and creative Subnautica bases I've ever seen, really good work here! I love the crew quarters, never really even considered doing a room like that, I'll have to pick up on some of your genius for my next build I do myself haha.

Honestly one of my favorite things to make in my builds are massive zoos, like a really complex layout of different biome specific alien containment units with biome specific creatures in them, lore wise it could be explained for research purposes as well or an animal conservation sanctuary from the Karah :3
This is a super impressive base - not only in size and lore, but I also love all the attention to detail! The Crew Bedrooms are a magnificent idea - i m a big fan!
Only thing I would add is some plants and gardens, both for deco and edibles. Make one an outdoor garden using only luminous plants, they look amazing in low light when planted right.
yooo this was so fun and creative! gave me some inspiriation for my own future projects! also rip all those spadefish my favourite part was when the sea dragon and reaper both decided "screw physics" and no-clipped through the ground together

I think the mountains would have worked better lore wise, since there's an opening to the lost river there, which ALSO has a crater that goes directly into the inactive lava zone.
Sea Dragons are pathetic. Why should i avoid the zone because of them when they can't even make a decent attack in more narrow places like the alien research lava chamber?

I love that each crew quarter has it's coffe dispensor xD When I started playing the game a couple years ago I set myself with the idea of building a base on each biom, as a short of research facilities. Sadly I only did two and finished the game forgeting that personal objective... This reminded me of it. The structure and backstory is so well done. Good job.
I have one like this, but its on the Tree Cove, and covers pretty much everything around, from the blue Brim, to the huge drop behind it. I always place my base there in every game (I usuallly live in the cyclops and uuse it to transport all materials required to build the base deep below) Even some of my Time Capsules hace pictures of that particular base. Hope you find one soon. They're full with usefull stuff, and i mean, really.. Usefull stuff.
Great video, I liked the lore backup and the overall design/layout. The only thing I would change is positioning it somewhere in the crash zone as that's where the location of the hole was located in early access. Great video though!
I love this! It’s giving me Deep Blue Sea vibes as well as the The Meg. It has the potential of a thriller novel describing the events of a research team that attempted to control the ecosystem around the dunes in order to study leviathan activity further. I was thinking about the possibilities while I was watching. I’m gonna list out a few under this comment.
In my head as I was watching this I was trying to setup a story as to why there is a lab here. After Ryley gets back to Altera and they send research teams to evaluate the planet and it’s potential, a salvage reclamation team in the dunes is ambushed by a pair of sea dragons. Altera research management decides to wait them out in order to collect the remaining scrap. It takes a few cycles, but eventually the sea dragons return to their territory. Some cycles later, they find most of the tagged reapers’ trackers in that zone had gone static. So they send a team to investigate and once again are ambushed by two sea dragons. By this point management has had enough and allocates a team of researchers to set up shop in a steam vent crater in order to study these leviathans. Their main goal is to determine why they come to these spots for extended periods of time, why they are able to evade infrared scanners, and why the bioscanners didn’t have this data in the initial pda’s. The only way the base has gone undetected thus far is due to a prototype retro reflective field and a sonar scrambling device to throw off the reapers. Once this data had been studied, Altera management decided to test their ability to alter the ecosystem in that region. The research facility grew to accommodate breeding chambers. These bred many species that reapers found enticing, thus emboldening them to stay within sea dragon territory. This was to see if the dragons would stay for better hunting grounds. If Altera could successfully control the environment in such a way, then they might begin using sea dragons as an export of goods back to the core worlds. The possibility of genetic testing on the edges of researcher minds. THIS is what would make a great setup to a Subnautica thriller, with themes of the arrogance of man and and the unshackle-able will of nature. I would love to hear thoughts and suggestions for this scenario! Please share below.

i love the desine with the base being located it a small crater and suported by the central stone pillar! The only thing that doesn't make much sence is why there are just 5 people in such a big base, especially since you have such a compact cabin desingh i don't uderstand why you couldn't just put another 5 on the other side of the corridor, but that's just a nitpick

Oh no now I’m having in-universe questions and ideas- “Don’t you worry that the bright lights around the facility would attract the leviathan’s attention?” “Going off my previous question: How do you deal with attacks?” “What purpose do the aquariums containing predatory lifeforms serve?” “With everything that’s happening at once, wouldn’t you need more than five crew members to properly observe and document everything?” “I see no food farms - do you have to venture out beyond the dunes in order to get lunch?” Out-of-universe - this is honestly incredible! And a great premise for a horror movie; the constant roars of the reapers and the sea dragons create quite the unsettling atmosphere.
It's true there are a lot of in-universe plot holes that I didn't think of at the time. These are all valid points and I'll probably take most of these into consideration if I do make another base like this one. Good comment.
Genius idea to build an Umbrella base on a geothermal spring and breed predators from other biomes. "The Riley Robinson Foundation - saving the planet from extinction together." The ambient background music of the dunes scared the crap out of me, especially when in total darkness I came across the wreckage of the Aurora near a dead zone with a roaring reaper. Yeah, they should give out a Dragon Slayer Achievement for eliminating dragons.
I was just about to say that! Just absolute silence in the other days and the horrible moans and hums of sea dragons during the migration days. Would be so cool.
There also used to be a giant hole leading into the lava zone to show how the seadragons came into the dunes but it was removed, it was called the hell hole I think
The moon pool has got to be one of my favourite features in this game series. I can never get over how cool they are

Out-of-universe - this is honestly incredible! And a great premise for a horror movie; the constant roars of the reapers and the sea dragons create quite the unsettling atmosphere.
It's true there are a lot of in-universe plot holes that I didn't think of at the time. These are all valid points and I'll probably take most of these into consideration if I do make another base like this one. Good comment.

The ambient background music of the dunes scared the crap out of me, especially when in total darkness I came across the wreckage of the Aurora near a dead zone with a roaring reaper.

There also used to be a giant hole leading into the lava zone to show how the seadragons came into the dunes but it was removed, it was called the hell hole I think
