    Enjoying the account of Mark. Remember that the different accounts of the same event differ with the writers’ perspectives. Their differing accounts will take in lots of details another missed in his written account. Same event, different perspectives, different details remembered.

    We can feed the poor and meet their physical need, but if - in addition - we do not feed them spiritually with the gospel of Jesus Christ, we have failed to love them with the same redemptive love with which God loved us - and we have failed in our mission to make disciples of all nations. That said, I can’t help but think that we - as part of the western church who have been blessed with so much - are falling short of stewarding those resources faithfully to complete the church’s mission not only in our own communities…. but to the ends of the earth. If we couldn’t do it, Jesus wouldn’t have commanded it. Far too often we are so distracted by lesser things, we fail at the most important task that we’ve been given: the great commission.

      You can't pay people to believe in Jesus. Spreading the word is good, but there will be people who reject it, and Jesus knew that.

    • @pamelatrost2750
      @pamelatrost2750 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DiggitySlice Hi Dusty. The apostle Peter in his second epistle to the church instructed us that God called us by His own glory and moral excellence (2 Peter 1:2-11).
      That glory (essence of God’s nature) and moral excellence was manifest in Jesus Christ who when encountering the crowds, “had compassion on them because they were bewildered and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest-ready fields.” Matthew 9:36-38 NET
      We are those workers called to manifest that same glory and moral excellence to a world bewildered and helpless like sheep without a shepherd that they might experience the selfless love of God in Christ Jesus for these - the lost and the least - and become part of His flock. ❤

      Great lesson. You’ve given me something to think about with Judas. Bitterness about something or someone in the Church has harmed a lot of people and I had not looked at it like that.
      But I’m not sure that I agree that he was casting out demons. Jesus did call the disciples together and gave them the authority to use His Name. The disciples as a group came back and talked about what all had happened. But I think it is an assumption to say that Judas also cast out demons. My guess is that you’re right but I’m not certain and I’m thinking about it.

    Pastor Mike, this teaching is so needed! I live in the South, and the way that politics (mostly conservative politics but also sometimes liberal politics) dictates Biblical interpretation sometimes feels spiritually oppressive. I’ve started inserting your tag line of “learning to think Biblically about everything” into many of my conversations because so many times we just don’t. A million thanks Pastor. I love what you’re doing.

    • @stevej71393
      @stevej71393 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EphLife51516 I can't speak for phillyphi12, but from my experience, American Christians of the Conservative Republican persuasion have a very particular way of interpreting scripture, ignoring verses that don't jive with their political views, and assuming that all Christians share their same political views which can feel oppressive. Liberal Christians are certainly guilty of this as well, but that doesn't somehow make Conservatives' behavior okay. I find myself being treated differently in my church because I do not wholeheartedly support "Trumpism". In my church, there are many who assume that the mainstream Republican positions on Covid-19 are the Christian position. There are many who assume that all Christians vote for Trump. If you don't/didn't, you are considered a Democrat and a non-Christian. It is a false dichotomy as disagreements with the Republican party do not make me a Democrat. American Christians don't realize just how influenced they are by the wider culture. American politics is an idol in the American church today.

    Mike, it blew my mind again how much solid traching, how much challenging preaching,, how much rectification of common and personal error(s), how much pastoral counseling, how much gospel/evangelism, how much practical testimony, how much uplifting truth can fit into and come out of a verse by verse study of one small event. This humble piece of honest work not only showed your passion and dedication to the Word and your love for our souls, it has the spirit of truth holding it all together and delivering all of these vital facets right into the lives and hearts of the listeners. It seems to me that you are growing bolder and even enjoying it all more and more every week. God bless you as you continue. May God continue to protect you from pride, just as you hope and pray. This had to be praised, through. But all glory to Jesus, yet thank you, Mike. This really blessed me.

    Mike, I literally almost cried when I read your welcome for anyone to use in gatherings. I know quite a few families that have left the word of faith church at the beginning of covid and some kind of used that to not be part of any fellowship. They have been praying about a church in our rural community that is saturated with the same teachings. There are many things they felt they needed to unlearn. I point them to you all the time. One family in particular hasn't started going back to church because of an elderly family member they take care of and fear of covid. They are very open to fellowship at their home outside now that the weather is good. This may be very helpful.

    Psalm 22 is amazing. A prophecy about the cross and the spreading of the gospel all over the world as well as a mighty answer to all who feel that God has forsaken them. It also proves that the holy spirit is God. How else can people attain such insight into the future? No other religion has such proof. And the atheists are blind to it, even though it is right in front their eyes. We are following the one true Lord. No doubt about it.

    Amen and thank you for this very applicable teaching! Your insight on double-mindedness and the "feigned piety" of social justice revealed in Mark 14:4-5 serves as witness to Jesus' teaching on the same issue, in Matthew 6:1-4:
    “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly."

    We aren't lobbying to refuse aid to the poor. We just think there are better avenues that can be taken to accomplish that, rather than making the government responsible for it. Charities/shelters for example. The hang up is that if any institution could get away with corruption it would be the government, so the less we rely on big gov the better.

      @@seraphina77 Your point was "The government does certain things, so that means the government is correct and within its rights to do those things". It's circular logic (and just because they get away with it doesn't mean it is right or appropriate). The Federal and State Constitutions outline the responsibilities of those bodies. The Federal Government has a very narrow purview, yet these days has its tentacles reaching into almost every aspect of a person's life.
      Just to take one of those -- education is not a function of the Federal government, and arguably neither should it be at the state level. Control & funding of schools should be left up to the local communities they serve. Some state constitutions essentially consider the "local community" to be all the citizens of that state and the state government will have an hand in regulating local school districts (which I think is a bad idea, but each community is allowed to set their own rules).

    Thanks you ! Exactly, the poors are indeed the primary target of the gospel, Luke 7:22 "The good news is preached to the poor"
    The parrallel passage in Mark 14:7 is also enlightening "The poor you will always have with you and *you can help them whenever you want* but you will not always have Me"
    and Matt 25:31-46 doing good to the poors is the same as doing good to Jesus himself.

      Don't just try to stop the lewdness. Try to worship the worthy Saviour more and more and more and the things of earth (like beautiful alabaster jars) will fall away into the dust. You are repentant and will find grace every day, like daily bread. You are finding your true love and acceptance and purpose as a worshipper and warrior in the Kingdom. God has great plans for you to lead others into wholeness and humility. Honesty is where it starts. You're not hiding anymore. You're coming into the light with truth! Praise the Lord!

    That was a long-awaited discussion mic I loved every bit of it and right now we need this because our world is so confusing and it's confusing us as Christians of what were to believe and not believe and a lot of times the government who already takes our money and spends it the way they want to instead of leaving it up to us you find yourself in a position where you end up with not a lot of money but you still feel the obligation to get the word of Christ out there by supporting ministries and I struggle with that a lot

    Quick comment about the Sunday gatherings mentioned in the New Testament…I have heard it said that they gathered to deal and collect the money on the first day of the week because they were forbidden to handle money on the sabbath…so it’s not saying that they no longer gathered and worshipped on the Sabbath but that the business was dealt with on the first day of the week instead of the sabbath.

I've always loved reading how Paul did the same thing and admired that so much and here you go following in Paul's footsteps...wow man, salute brother. --- For those who don't know, 1 Corinthians 9:14-15 says, (In the same way the Lord commanded those who proclaim the gospel to receive their living by the gospel. But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing these things so that something will be done for me. In fact, it would be better for me to die than - no one will deprive me of my reason for boasting!)
