Not enough upvotes in the world for this one!
What heavenly voices...Yo yo was phenomenal as well!!!
From a native, Welsh speaking Welshman. Thank you for this most beautiful, meliflous and perfect version of 'Ar Hyd Y Nos' - I could not help but cry out of happiness and 'Hiraeth' - I'll just keep on coming back to this time after time. Thank you. Diolch o'r Galon. Cymru am Byth.
My grandparents always sang this to me at bedtime. Precious, brought tears to these old eyes.
in the immortal words of John Denver, "music makes pictures and often tells stories, all of it magic and all of it true''
Chris Thile has a wonderful voice but when Aoife sings in that pure toned, pitch perfect voice of hers, I get chills. Such a gift.
Agreed. And being on stage with the great Yo-yo Ma..no pressure, right?
@@jamestierney2531 I miss 'Live From Here' and the vast talent that would come together and perform of our enjoyment. There is such talent, skill, artistry and experience on this stage as to boggle the mind and steal away the heart. Yo-yo Ma and Edgar Meyer sitting in and chillin' seems so natural you could almost take it for granted.
@@jonmars9559 Thanks for the nice note, Jon. Sometimes the stars align just right and great artists come together to make great music and share it with us. The world CAN be a beautiful place. Cheers to you…JT
My father used to sing this to me sixty years ago when I would not settle at night. So nice to find it here.
Lovely, reflective rendition
Stunning .......
If there any more stars on this stage it would be declared a Galaxy.
It’s not every day one sees that much talent assembled on a single stage. A real thing of beauty and quiet, exquisite excellence.
I have been watching this quite a bit lately. I have loved this lullaby for decades. Done quietly, as a lullaby is meant to be sung, and played.
I love this beautiful peaceful performance. I especially liked the shots of the discarded pages spread all over the floor. Made it even more realistic.
I've been sick and I was thinking back to my orchestra class because I managed to embarrass myself but I never heard this song before that class and their voices are so calming I have so many great things to say about this song and video
what a gift Live from Here was. Thank you Chris Thile and all.
Dumbfounded that this has only 8000+/- views and a few scores of likes (as of 4/17) ... brilliant arrangement done by all-world-class performers. Thanks for this PHC.
Because sometimes ego overshadows an otherwise beautiful song LOL
It is hard to see the video through my tears.
Beautifully done. I sang this song as a farewell to my father at his funeral - Ar Hyd Y Nos (I'm Welsh btw)
I just finished watching a video about the children of Aberfan that were lost in 1966. Hearing this after watching that, I'm laying in bed crying. They were my generation. 😢
May your dear father rest in the company of angels. Kind wishes..JT
Thanks so much for putting this up. I was in the audience and cried. It's one of the most moving arrangements of a song I've heard.
Where and when was this performance?
Both of them have such incredible voices!
Lovely. We also watch that Dylan Thomas video starring Denholm Elliot every Christmas ("A Child's Christmas in Wales") and the ending scene with the family singing this old Welsh song is beautiful.
Watching that wonderful CBC/PBS version of A Child's Christmas in Wales is a Christmas tradition in our circle, too - especially for the Wood-Lopez family, whose son is named Dylan. Many thanks, and Merry Christmas
Oh my goodness ❤️ this was so beautiful :) perfection!
Beautiful.
That was so calming for my soul...Thank you
My mother and father used to sing this to my brother and I when we were just babes
If you had Yo-Yo Ma, Dylan Thomas, Edgar Meyer, Aoife O'Donovan, Chris Thile and Alex Hargreaves in your living room, you'd probably want to share in that astounding conclave. I was needing help to make it through this night, so shared it with my Facebook friends...and dropped off peacefully.
What wonderful timing to upload this beautiful, intimate piece. If I loved PHC any more I'd just burst. Happy holidays everyone.
I so miss Live From Here. One of the greater losses to covid-19.
I remember seeing a film featuring Paul Robeson in which he sang a moving rendition. I think it was in the 30's
Very good and funny videos bring a great sense of entertainment!
Absolutely beautiful.
Fantastic
Me, seeing Chris Thile in title: WHOA!
Also me: Wait. That is not what I thought he looked like.
*starts to get misty, because... Favorite lullaby*
Brian: IS THAT YO-YO MA?!?!
*Checks title again*
Dammit. *full on cries*
The video sound is pretty good, beyond my imagination
Just Beautiful Love PHC
Perfect.
My dad would "sing" this to me in Welsh. He was one Welshman who couldn't sing but I loved that he tried!
@@stephaniedavies9799 I suspect he knew. Makes it even more lovely that that he did. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful memory.
Does anyone bring to a stage a finer assembly of musicians than this show?
I sung this song in 7th grade choir today
Does anyone know if there is a studio track that can be purchased for this rendition/group? I haven’t found anything even close. Thanks!
I sang this to my children at bedtime
Ben Wyatt on violin
Does anyone know the lyrics to this version? They are slightly different from some others I've heard.
Sleep my child and peace attend thee
All through the night
Guardian angels God will lend thee
All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping
Hill and vale in slumber sleeping
I my loving vigil keeping
All through the night
Love to thee my thoughts are turning
All through the night
All for thee my heart is yearning
All through the night
Though sad fate our lives may sever
Parting will not last forever
There's a hope that leaves me never
All through the night
Though I roam a minstrel lonely
All through the night
My true harp shall praise sing only
All through the night
Love's young dream alas is over
Yet my strains of love will hover
Near the presence of my lover
All through the night
Sleep my child and peace attend thee
All through the night
Guardian angels God will send thee
All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping
Hill and vale in slumber sleeping
I my loving vigil keeping
All through the night
@@jiyuzanandrewrockwell2676 thank you :)
Holtz,s song
LMAO
Not a bad rendition but I’ve heard better in the pub in Welsh
If you wanna simply hear the music, skip to chronomark 1:15. The first minute is logorrhea.
Yeah I just wanted to hear the song
Remember, this was a radio program with a lot more to it than just music.
Beautiful song, but it would have been better without all the talking.
rubbish version
