In Today’s video, I explain the key differences between handmade buttonholes vs machine buttonholes. I think you're going to be surprised about just how much of a difference it makes when it comes to the craftsmanship and style of your wardrobe.

    Handmade buttonholes, hand
-set collars/sleeves, hand-felled seams and all these hand picked details are ABSOLUTELY worth it. Now that you've experienced it, Kirby, best of luck enjoying anything without those details. They add a sense of quality, craftsmanship and tradition to the earliest moments of your day, buttoning up your shirt, feeling that fabric on your body, and the buttonholes in your fingertips. It really adds beauty to the pleasure of dressing and I, for one, have a really hard time appreciating the shirts made without handsewn details now.

All the buttonholes on my dress shirts are done by hand as is a lot of other parts. I personally can tell the difference and love the craftsmanship involved. Nice video and enjoy your shirts.

I think £200 for hand sewn button hole edging on those shirts quite fiscally canny and quite generous from the business owner to be honest. The amount of care and finesse from the sewist tacking those little slots in the material is obvious in your pieces. It’s nice to see. .Also, the thread type and thickness used in the hand stitching vs the machine stitched holes look quite different and have very very different tensions in the finishing work from what I can see.
But then, nothing bad or functionally wrong with machined button I holes at all. Those particular ones don’t look like they’d fray or go wonky after a few launders. The difference I can see, in the examples shown, is the distance between each thread on the horizontal and vertical in the button
Hole. The hand done has none whilst the other has gaps..
that’s my little take on that subject.

Dear Kirby I regularly watch your videos. I enjoy them. Digging the linen shirt. Could u make a video on different fabrics/seasonal fabrics??

Question # What type of buttons were used in the shirt - and VS Studs, would the use of studs be too much for this type of shirt in it's intended use? And thread color is there a codex for colored button holes where and when to use them?

Do you know what kind of thread is usually being used for hand sewn shirt buttonholes? Thickness, material?

Always nice to see some great work. I do like these videos even though I would clearly not pay the upcharge. My most expensive shirt cost about half of the upcharge! So no, to me it is not worth it.
Also, why do you take them to the dry cleaners ? They use toxic chemical products that damage the fabric. Putting them in a washing machine on a delicate low temperature cycle and then ironing them with lots of steam is less agressive and will make the shirts last longer. It's only when I have a major stain that I take them to the dry cleaners.

Hello, thank you for your videos I very much appreciate them. You mention the name of the white shirt you are showing in the video but I don’t understand the name, what is the name of the maker of that white shirt?

A single handsewn buttonhole takes no more than 10 minutes.

Some people say this video and hand made button holes are a waste of time, others say this video and hand made button holes are an incredible waste of time.

Beautiful shirts, but nah, not worth the upcharge versus machine stitched shirts. I’d rather use the funds for a nice pair of high quality shoes or a beautiful timepiece. Either would score a bigger visual impact and versatility to a wardrobe versus how well the microscopic shirt threads are set on a seam.

Probably safe to say if you’re shelling out this kind of coinage you. Ight as well go all the way and get the hand sewn holes, and that you’re already have bespoke shoes etc

Definitely not worth it. What really matters is overall fit, quality of seams, cuffs, etc, elements that do not require a microscope to appreciate.
