    I was there but I think you were ahead of me the whole race. I was running way behind and left my headlamp in my drop bag but the sun went down before I could reach my drop bag so I had to run alone in the dark before I found this group. This nice lady gave me a headlamp and a man gave me an extra shirt. I was so unprepared but the kindness from the other runners will stay with me forever.

    • @wplate
      @wplate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Somewhere around mile 70-75 I started running with a Swiss runner named Stefan. His English was limited so we didn't speak much, but we ran together for a while, helping each other stay on course, encouraging each other, and enjoying the company. At the mile 87 aid station we parted ways, he wasn't feeling well, but I begged him not to drop out. As we said goodbye he told me "This was good." I interpreted it to mean he enjoyed our time together. That was very special to me. You really meet great people in these events.

    Great video, thank you for uploading. Do you think I could road shoe this trail race?

    • @wplate
      @wplate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would think so. I remember one small steep section where maybe traction of a trail shoe could have helped, but I was about 70 miles in and it was dark so I don’t Actually remember that part very well. Overall you’d be totally fine in road shoes.

    • @wplate
      @wplate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The map shown at 2:36 for example? The GPX file from my watch was converted into a mask shape in an Apple Motion project. I used it in a Title that had many parameters rigged and published so that while editing in FCP I could control the “completeness” shown on that little map.

      Joe Hefferon I don’t know how he got lost, all runners were required to have the course on a GPS device with downloaded maps so it could operate without cell service.
      What helped me at Zion: Kogalla lamp on my waist illuminating the ground in front of me and my headlamp pointed higher to make it easy to scan for course markers.
