    Great idea. I'd love to see how you do the actual castings.

      There are a few videos elsewhere in this same play-list that show the process.

    Nice demo, and I really admire your work. Tip: to strengthen the molds, after the first two or three layers, add cheese cloth in between subsequent layers. It strengthens the mold and helps prevent tearing.

      Thanks for the tip. I've read that before somewhere. The very first rock mold I made I forgot to insert the cloth. A simple tear test afterwards revealed that the mold was plenty strong enough without it. Since then, I have never reinforced molds this way and I have never torn one either. Maybe I would get away with one less layer of rubber, but maybe the cloth would also stiffen the mold, making it less useful for wet casting. These molds work fine the way they are. Why try to fix what isn't broken.

    Would your Vasoline and Mineral Spirits mold release work in a spray bottle?

      @mpeterll  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably. I haven't tried it. There may be problems with clogging if the mineral spirits are allowed to evaporate in the nozzle, leaving just the jelly.

    Wonderful! Can cement/concrete be used inside those molds?

    How can I get the liquid rubber to make my own lava rock skins?

      It's available at Michael's or Micro-mark.

    If I want to make a stiffer mold, would I want to place gauze or plaster cloth between the layers of latex rubber applications?
    How would I go about making a 2 part mold to cast duplicate pieces of say a giant windmill blade?

      I made a video on two part silicone rubber molds a few months ago.

    I want to buy it from you. How

    You should sell those molds! Might be cheaper to buy your latex from a distributor, just make sure it's heavily fillered like the Michael's stuff.

    Watch rubber mould guy do not use patrolium or soaps on rubber moulds it makes them hard and rots them use castor oil 1 part with 3 parts rubbing alcohol only you ruin someone else's mould
