- Happy Birthday Benny Mardones - Special performance by Rebecca Holden
Benny Mardones was originally discovered in 1969 by then new Mercury Records exec, Joel Diamond, along with Joel’s assistant, Tommy Mottola. After hearing Benny sing acapella in his office, Joel got Benny his first record deal (with Joel producing) and also started Benny on his way to becoming a hugely successful songwriter. Benny truly exploded onto the music scene in 1980 with his soulful and passionate performance of "Into The Night." The song quickly became a radio classic across the country, and then after topping the charts twice with similar but separate recordings, it became one of the most played tunes in radio history. Just recently (a portion of which can be heard on this video) Benny recorded a brand new version of "Into The Night" a third time with now legendary record producer Joel Diamond; along with the brilliant arrangement and instrumentation by Ted Perlman. This could make radio and music history by becoming the first time for the same song with the same artist going Top 10 three different times! Benny was sadly diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2000 and despite his illness, he continues to perform to sold-out audiences in central New York, where he still retains a huge and very loyal following. In 2011, Benny married Jane Braemer in a small and intimate ceremony. Benny & Jane are truly soul mates and as Benny puts it, “I can’t imagine life without Jane and I see our relationship as “us” against the world. Jane has shown me and helped me understand what true love really is and she has given me and continues to give me all the strength I need to be ready, willing, and able to take on whatever life throws at me.”

100%!!! I’m from Australia 🇳🇿 Into the night has been my favourite song since I was in my teens. Only Benny can sing this song like it needs to be sung. He didn’t need any other hits because how do you go above a song like that? You don’t have to try to get to the top when you’re already there, and Benny was there. RIP Benny ❤

I understand the feeling. I had just turned 16 when this song was released and I was in love with this song and seeking a soulmate to love me as his song resonates.

Happy Birthday Benny! The first time I ever heard into the night, I was in the back seat of my parents car and was only 3 years old in 1980 when it came on the radio and I remember telling my mom I like this song. I have loved it ever since. And when I heard The interview of how into the night came to be, I have so much respect for Benny and just want to say it takes a wonderful person to do what he did for those teenaged kids when their own so called father walked out on them and their mother with no money no nothing. Wow! I don't know much about Benny Mardones and his song "Into The Night" but I just learned of it about 3 years ago. His voice was phenomenal and it's hard to understand why he never had more success. (Thanks for this amazing upload just seeing it now and found out that Mr. Mardones died last year 2020 on this day, June 13th 2021 apologies for not knowing sooner because I am having housing issues my health trying to go back to school and me not able to grieve my mother passing due to court battles with an evil landlord but, she enjoyed and loved also as a fan Mr. Mardonnes and so, the reason for the tears such a great loss of an unique and exquisite singer).
Yet inspite of all the major obstacles as part Cherokee part West Indian Black and part Irish I appreciate Mr. Mardonnes, and moreover, all I am facing currently , Mr. Benny's song: 'Into the night', surely puts a smile on my face and helps me to dream far away places of joy and that better days are coming soon.
So this song, and his vocal angelic gifts has helped me thru. Wanted to say this and its difficult for me to say all this but , had to thank Mr. Mardonnes and his family/friends for sharing this special video and for all as a fan.

I don't know of you or much of your music, but "in to the night " changed my life as a kid in the mid eighties growing up on rap and r&b. After hearing that song I realized I love strong power singers. Thanks to you, to this day I prefer powerhouse singers with lots of emotion and passion, and I believe that will never change.
