I watched this almost two weeks ago! It was better then I thought it would be but they really need to improve on the writing especially in certain areas! The time travel guy revealed too much! Also is that the only reason he put the team together! I could point more questionable writing decisions but that would be spoilers! It's good and I'm looking forward to another season with improved writing and plot line!

Same here. The two ladies that play Dionne and Sabrina look like twins (seriously), so it was easy to confuse them. They needed to switch up their hairstyles or something to differentiate them.

I noticed that too, though on second watch, I noticed something different. They don't keep running into EACH OTHER, instead they keep crossing paths with Michael specifically. He's probably going to be the leader.

I had intended on watching just an episode and ended up binging it in one night 😩 Black superheroes born out of a disease like sickle cell that affects us and turning it into a super power is such a powerful and uplifting sentiment. Kudos to the director/writer.
My son told me to watch this. So me and my homegirl chilled and watched this in our jimjams this weekend. Loved it. And cannot wait for season two. Happy it translated well over the pond with you Americans. Makes it less likely to be cancelled by Netflix.

DBS(Disclosure and Barring Service) is a check mainly used by employers to check a new recruits criminal background. Convictions and cautions.
So its no different from over here in the US then when it comes to parole for good behavior, then trying to find a job, damn shame
@@lip124A DBS shows every crime and caution you have got. The Rule is if you committed any crime when you were under 18 it says on your record for 6 years. If you commit a crime as an adult, then it is permanently there and will never be removed. And companies can legally terminate your contract and fire you if you something shows up, no matter how minor on your DBS. It was initially use to check the background of people who work with kids, vulnerable people and finance, but has been expanded to other jobs as a form of discriminatory practice.

Sickle cell primarily affects people of west african descent, it also exists in hig concentration in some parts of greece/southern europe. sickle cell isn't common in east and south africa. This is due to the lack of malaria in those areas. There was no adaptive benefit in having sickle cell

The current average life expectancy for a person with sickle cell is 52.6 As a warrior myself, I really, really appreciate this show. As a person who loves a good show and movie, I really enjoyed lt! Excited to see you react to it.

Sickle cell anemia primarily affects Black people (not broadly POC) ie people with African ancestry. At least half the population in W. Africa carry the sickle trait (blood cell shaped like a sickle) ie 1 gene copy . A person with 2 copies (one from each parent) will have the disease. You need just 1 normal copy to present as 'healthy". People with Sickle cell anemia represent 25% of the population and are essentially immune to malaria but it's at the cost of having the painful and debilitating complications of SCA. So in a manner of speaking, they are "super". If you have the trait (1 sickle cell gene and 1 normal gene; like most of the population) you're healthy but you're a carrier and you have to be careful who you procreate with because there will be at 25% chance that your kids will have SCA if your partner is also a carrier. Probability goes up to 75% if (as a carrier) you procreate with someone who has SCA. 90% of the cases are in Nigeria. Most of us have family members who suffer with and/or died from SCA so it's a huge deal and a lot of work has gone into getting people tested so people are aware when they're dating and marrying etc. I knew my type before I was 10 years old. Sorry for the paragraph but this is why the whole cast is Black.

There also are Sickle Cell Diseases, like Sickle Beta Thalassemia, that occur when someone inherits a Sickle Cell trait from one parent and a Beta Thalassemia gene from the other. Both genes are co-dominant so they form the disease that in its severe for us kind of like SCA (ex. pain crises) but not. My baby sister had it. She passed away not from the disease itself but the lack of a good pain management doctor.
Rapman has an interesting entry point. He was a rapper who started making "hood" films that went viral at least in the UK. Then not too long ago he put out his first feature film, and now Supacell which. He's got better and better each time but he's always known how to come up with dramatic scenarios.

its funny how in the beginning everyone (including me) mixes up the main characters girlfriend with the woman whos a nurse lmfao. for a moment they kinda look alike.
It started off a little slow and I understood because they had to introduce everyone and their situations but when it got going BOY IT GOT GOING!!

Due to hygiene reasons, healthcare workers do not or are not allowed to wear wrist watches. Having a watch (fob watches) which can attach to the uniform allows healthcare workers to quickly access the time whilst on the job.

A DBS is a criminal record check. In the UK a lot of jobs like require a clean criminal record, so many companies do DBS checks on all their new employees to see if they have come committed any crime in their life time. They can legally terminate your contract if your DBS shows you committed a crime and you did not declare it and if you do declare it you are unlikely to get the job offer anyway. And while it makes sense to have DBS checks for people who work in finance and with children, it has kinda be expanded to other jobs as a way of discriminating because lower income people are more likely to have something on their record. Like you can’t work any government job without a clean DBS.

5:00 Nah I get it. If she’s the sole provider for a growing boy and it’s obviously he hasn’t been financially contributing I get her annoyance. $200 in 3 months and the promises to pay don’t cut it, THEN he got the son a brand new iPhone? It’s seems cruel but constantly letting the dad skip out on support while he’s giving lavish gifts or going to big events, does a Mrs. Doubtfire and makes the responsible and stable parent out to be the bad guy in the kids eyes and can create behavioral problems. The mom isn’t being evil, she’s keep him away from conflict and being respectful to the other parent while maintaining a healthy boundary. Hopefully they didn’t ruin it.

I'm with you on this one. Good to step out of one's comfort zone. Check out "The Lazarus Project". Another one from across the pond. It's already 2 seasons in but it is pretty good.

I just heard of the series today and watched episode 1 today. Then I came straight here!
Edit: I don't think it's about that guy has to pay to see his kid. He's probably behind on child support. She mentioned that he only gives her a couple of hundred every 3 months. So she probably laid down a rule that he can't see the kid until he start supporting him. I know some divorced/single moms that do the same thing because apparently their exes want access to the kid but don't want to spend a dime on them. that doesn't seem to be the case here, but I could see why the mom may be suspicious that the man is lying and we see that he was somehow able to afford an iPhone.
I didn't know what a DBS is either so I looked it up. It looks like it's the UK's version of a criminal background check.

My oldest son text me yesterday and asked if I had watched Supa Cell. I said it was on my list. He told me to watch it NOW. So I started, and my mind was blown!!!! This show is So Good!!!! So far, I finished episode 3. For Ep. 1, I made the same mistake you did. The actresses that play Dionne (Michael's fiancée), and Sabrina (the nurse with the sister) *look Exactly Alike!!* Even their hairstyles were the same, so that was a bad choice by costuming. Man!!! I love this show. I plan to watch the rest tonight. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

they haven't announced if there's a season two. But honestly I wouldn't;t be surprised if they don't get a another season cuz it's Netflix. Netflix has a history of axing off shows when they're good.
I watched the first episode, but I might wait to watch the rest until I hear about a renewal because I got spoiled about how this season ends. Netflix has disappointed me way too many times cancelling shows I liked.

This show is so good, but once again Netflix is showing that it is not interested in developing this series due to it only having 6 episodes. I will be surprised if its a season 2.
