How to Set Up Pyramid Solitaire
To set up Pyramid Solitaire, deal a seven-row pyramid. Start by dealing one face-up card in the first row, two face-up cards in the second row that slightly overlap the first card, and so on until you have seven cards in the seventh row. This is your tableau.
Place the remaining cards facedown below the tableau. This is your stockpile, which you’ll draw from during the game. You should also leave room for a waste pile and foundation pile to the right of the stockpile.
Pyramid Solitaire Card Values
Remember, the goal of Pyramid Solitaire is to pair exposed cards that add up to 13 to clear the tableau. Numbered cards equal their face value while aces equal 1, jacks equal 11, queens equal 12, and kings equal 13.
Pyramid Solitaire Rules
1. Survey the tableau and pair cards that add up to 13. You can match any exposed cards, which means cards that aren’t overlapped from the row below. At the start of the game, only cards from the seventh row are exposed. Once you find a pair that adds up to 13, you place it in the foundation pile.
2. If there aren’t available pairs on the tableau, flip a card from the stockpile to the waste pile to see if it can be paired with a card on the tableau. Continue flipping until you find a match. You can go through the stockpile a maximum of three times.
3. Once you’ve removed all cards from the tableau, you win! If there are still cards in the tableau after you’ve run through the stockpile three times, you lose.
