I love this rendition! The slower-than-usual tempo makes you hold your breath ... in a good way.

Yes. I hate it when a hornpipe or other slow tune is played at top speed to show off.

THE absolutely BESTEST version in the whole wide web. Like being hypnotised. We are so much used to the up tempo version that we forgot how beautiful this tune is. You really brought this gem to a new shine.

Excellent stuff. Slowed down versions of tunes can often work very well, as Martin Hayes frequently demonstrates.

Thé most interesting version on TH-cam with that one from the Dubliners who remains at thé top for me .
They are fare away from all.the others ..for m'y own..of course ..
Haley is a great musician with thé people she Plays she uses Many great tehnics for exemple to change from B Key to C Key in the same tune
Thé Irish accordéon is very usefull for that
John is one if my favorite box player..
Two people made of music ..

The more I watch this, the more I like it. This is folk music at its best because it adds the personalities of the performers into the mix and you get a more multi-dimensional experience. It's music from the hearth, the sort the Irish do so well because the hearth it's its heart. Does anybody know where it was performed?

Cumberland Community College in NJ. Haley and John will be touring down the west coast of the US in late September 2018. You can find out more at www.haleyrichardsonmusic.com

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling it was somewhere in America, maybe because a fiddle-plying friend of mine introduced me to the tune and I've been touring TH-cam in search if different renditions ever since. I live deep in the English countryside, by the way, so the west coast of the US is a long way to go.

agreed - It's a mesmerizing piece. At first I wasn't thrilled with it. Then when I started to really listen to it I felt the fairies dancing around me. Amazing version!!! Totally captures the 'fairy' element at play!!! deLIGHTful!!

I may be wrong but I think Haley got a start big time with the Chieftains - what extraordinary ambassadors. Now Paddy, Séan have left us. Wonderful Séan was well enough to perform with other great artists for Biden's historic visit to Ballina, April 2023.

I felt the same way. I do love emotionally drawn out slow tunes, but this tune for me, sounds better with a brisk pace.

Nonsense. Most people play it far too fast.

Can anyone tell what kind of melodeon John is playing, is it a B/C?
