    Tailoring your CV to a specific job is the most important take away from this video from my personal point of view i applied this and its a game changer at least to get your "foot in the door" for the first interview. Simply because keywords make it easier for the recruiter filter you out of the bunch! Thanks jovie!

    Mylast experience: 2 years working on to be hired in, than told they don't go on with you because of 'costs' en within 8 months: 'Can you please come work here? We offer a full contract!'

    How many hours is considered "full time" in the Netherlands?

    • @TestTest-eb8jr
      @TestTest-eb8jr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      About 36 hours a week is a good average number

    • @selsel221
      @selsel221 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      36 - 40 hours a week with a maximum of about 8 hours a day.

    • @NLRevZ
      @NLRevZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Minimum 36 to 40 hours max a week is fulltime. Anything past that is legally overtime and cannot be part of the employment contract as actual work time.
      The average work time per week drops as the sample window gets longer:
      Over any period of four weeks the maximum allowed average work time plus overtime is 55 hours.
      Over any period of 16 weeks, the maximum allowed average work time is 48 hours a week.
      No single week may ever have more than 60 work hours in total.

      I can only speak about Germany, but I guess that advice is valid for Brussels and other large European capitals as well. Many American think tanks have branches here, and there are of course European think tanks with a focus on America. So your qualification might help here. Out of my head, and probably not the correct names and no idea what politcal affiliation they have, there is CARE Germany, Aspen Institute Berlin, German Marshall Fund, or the Carnegie foundation, There are also tons of international NGOs in Germany, by the way not only in Berlin, as Germany is a federal state with strong economical and political centers like Hamburg or Munich.
      Another idea would be to enlist in a (english-language) masters course in politics at a German university, possibly with a subsequent PHD. University is basically free in Germany, even for non-EU citizens, and afterwards, you're granted a visa for 18 or 24 more months where you can find a job, which then would also lead to a normal job visa with a clear path to permanent residence or even citizenship.
      There are tons of videos here about studying in Germany. I remember having watched a video about PHD from the channel "Black Forest Family", a channel by an American family living in Freiburg by the BlackForest and with very well researched material, by the way. Always worth watching and very informative.
      If you are from Texas, maybe you even have some German ancestor in your family with a possible path to a German and therefore EU passport. Same is true for other countries like Italy (no limit regarding number of generations as long as you can prove an Italian ancestor) or Ireland.
      Take care!

    I never thought I had to sell myself during an job interview. I always felt I needed to represent (talk about) myself, my specific technical skills and social skills and how I view the job and my role in it. At my first interview I was nervous, after that all interviews were like normal conversations. And I always talk or negotiate about what they offer. And what they don’t offer, but what I think is important for me to accept the job. And really, money isn’t the most important thing for me to accept a job. I like to have a job where I can go to whistling in the morning and go home satisfied in the afternoon. Not every day of course, I have my moods also. I once had two job offers and I chose the one which offered me €200/month less, because I found that job/company more interesting and more challenging. It was outside my field of experience but within my expertise, I had the qualifications for the job. I did manage to limit the pay gap to €60/month. And I never tell a specific number if they ask what salary I want to earn. I always ask them in return what they think I’m worth to them and what they want to offer me. I’m 60 now and this always worked for me. But I have to be honest, I didn’t apply for a job or had an interview in the last 6 years. So times could have changed since then.

    • @jwenting
      @jwenting 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yes, it's all about selling yourself. Quite often your job skills are all but assumed from your resume, with the interview (while frequently touching them, mostly to weed out fakers) is mostly to gauge interpersonal skills, "fit" with the team, things like that.
      It's horrendously stressful for introverted people with autism like me, who have massive trouble roleplaying a normal person (as I call it) but are very good at their job if only they are given a chance.
      I may not be the guy raising toasts at the friday evening social event, in fact I'll probably not be there, but when the system goes down over the weekend while everyone else is nursing a hangover I'll be there fixing things if you know what I mean.
      But the first seems often to be more important to people than the latter, meaning I have trouble passing those interviews...

    • @Peacefrogg
      @Peacefrogg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jwenting since most ppl, and most interviewers, are extraverts, they forget to focus on introverted qualities, like focus and availability on weekends.
      Better time management, bc you don’t lose a lot of time socializing. Independant, self-reliant, trustworthy, precise, punctual are attributes often found in introverts.
      Ofc a good fit is important, but most introverts are quite easy going and low maintenance.
