Right? Just based on how he treats Taim and the reverence the ashamon have for Taim. And Taim is always with them, while most have probably never even seen rand before. I would bet anything that they would go against Rand or anyone else if he ordered it.(outside of a small few ashamon)
Time had renown but his name is nothing compared to the dragon reborn. Rand has influence over and the attention of the whole world, by comparison. That's the leverage; the prophecy. Everything Taim and the others want, they get by being associated with Rand. They will never be able to exceed his influence, even if they might exceed Rand's power. The ai sedan, for example, would be perfectly happy to gentle Tiam. But they will not gentle Rand because of the prophecy. That's how I see it, anyway. Taim may be ambitious, but we have not yet had a clear indicator that he is a dark friend. Taim's motives keep him on Rands' side, for now - ie his desire to humble the Ai Sedai. Rand absolutely could do better to protect himself, but his character has been impetuous, though clever, almost from the start.
@onelawforall I wouldn't say he was always impetuous. The first 3 books really he is quite modest and soft spoken. Running from being the DR. And when he finally accepts it he demands people fall in line if he has to be what he has to be. He is prepared to die for them and he just wants people to cooperate.
I have read all the books at least 3 times over and now at 60 I am listening to them. I remember breaking down when I heard that Robert Jordan had passed before the last books were written. To me it was like loosing a friend. I tend to get really attached to great world creators like Jordan, he creates worlds and characters as good as if not better than Tolkien!
62 here. I think the second time listening thru. Read them 3 times thru. I think some of the characters as friends getting to listen to what they have been up to. The books about Camber of Culdi are another group of my mine. In this series, Matt is the guy I look forward to hearing about.

Yes, correct. All kinds of notes. However, it is not BS's 'world' and I believe he had to 'wrap it up' as it were and finish the story, where RJ would have written several more books, fleshed them out more and possibly never have ended the story. And the Amazon show tries but really goes so far off in so many instances I grow frustrated and turn it off. Best part about it for me is the trolleks come to 'life'

I’ve been through this series at least 10 times now. I admit these books do slow. But the last 3 really pick up imo. Because I love the series so much I now view the “slog” as rich character and arc development. It’s like the balloon inflating before it’s let go and flies all over.

The Hunt for the Black Ajha has got to be the true peak of this story. So great! Any chance of getting book 11 reposted? It's been missing for a while, and it is my favorite from the whole series. As I'm finishing book 8, 11 is not far away.
The voice acting especially for the Seanchan, is top notch. Hope they adopt this particular Seanchan accent in the show too. RJ had stated that he wanted a Texan accent for the Seanchan. IMHO, that wouldn't have worked out too well.

TV series: links up to kill trolloc wave in the blight and nearly everyone dies in the link. That whole scene fucks up everything. Matt and Nyneave are the 2 best characters in the entire series. Reread after real read confirms it. I read the first book right after it came out and waited 20 + years for it to be finished. And miss it now that it is.
I disagree. Nynaeve is one of the greatest character arcs in the story. I suggest rereading the books and 17:29:53 to understand her life experiences. You will see an awesome growth in almost any fantasy character, let alone a WoT character

I don't understand that when the world might be ending and every important character is moving towards the last battle, even then, all the major characters are always wondering and dancing around "women and men". All the characters seem to be of the same mould. All men see women the same way and vice versa. Even a strong queen like Morgase is "trembling and shivering" coz of a man..SIGGHHHHHH.. that kind of unreal attitude is very irritating. I used to skip pages when all "strong" "mature" "intelligent" characters would swoon or bully over the opposite sex!!! Please grow up!!! 🤬🤬
How does the bowl of the winds draw saidin without any channelers actually channeling it? I've read this whole series and even on relisten I don't see how that's supposed to be possible in lore or even how the ultimate resolution to the story of needing both even works if deus ex machining working with the other power without other channelers is possible.

I’m only 1/4 through book 9 and I’m guessing that using balefire has extremely serious consequences.
It had to happen. Without Padans wound over Balazamons wound, Rand wouldn't have had the inspiration to cleanse Saidin.
