    I swear, people in the third world can do any unremarkable thing and people in the west start salivating at their mouths to show how cultured they are by praising it endlessly . Yet, most of the truly incredible things accomplished by our own people and our ancestors get derided, deconstructed, and overlooked. Imagine knowing someone practices this dance for hours a day, every day, for years, but still having your jaw hit the floor when you learn they are able to do it competently.

      About 30 years ago a radio station here was playing a Bikutsi song, I didn't know how to dance Bikutsi, so I let my body dance how it wanted, not unlike this dance. Then there actually was a moment during which I defied gravity and did not feel any weight. It didn't last long, probably less than a second, but long enough for me to notice. One of the best moments in my life ¦¬)

  • @haxney
    @haxney 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    The feet are impressive, but the biggest thing I see is the upper body isolation. Maintaining an isolation like that when the feet are going crazy is insanely difficult. I've been a dancer for 16 years, and isolations are one of the hardest skills to master.
    It isn't just a matter of "keeping one thing still". The only part of your body that is trivial to keep still is your feet. Above that, if you're taking steps, the difficulty is to have one movement cancel out another. Think about hip isolation. Without doing anything fancy, anyone can rock their weight from one foot to another. To make it an isolation, you have to bend your spine to neutralize the hip movement so your rib cage stays in place. You essentially have to figure out how much articulation of multiple vertebrae will offset movement generated by the knees.
    He's bouncing his butt up and down, which means he has to bend his spine in time with the bounce created by his legs and ankles. He's essentially twerking while also doing something akin to a Charleston or shuffle dance with his feet.
    Crazy.
