16:18 "A witch or wizard... made entirely out of spiders." 😱😱😱 Rackham's illustrations are so great, and it is nice seeing them gain a new lease of life. The fey and comical atmosphere in this game sounds a lot of fun.

I dig NPC monsters and bad guys with a weird fairy tale twist. When your DMing guys with a ton of monster lore, throwing something at them with bizarre or unique resistances and weaknesses makes for exciting role play.

Might I suggest that 'Ford's Fairies: A Bestiary inspired by Henry Justice Ford' would work very well with this? It's a 100+ page OSR bestiary all of whose monsters are inspired - funnily enough - by the art of Henry Justice Ford (another of the leading lights of the golden age of British illustration whose art is public domain). And its FREE to download on drivethrurpg.

I love Rackham's work! Incidentally, since his art is in the public domain, it's great to use for indie publishing your own RPG materials.

This actually brings to light just how weird it is these kind of fairy tales haven't had much of a presence in many trpgs.

Definitely looks like a full and essential tome. I'm planning uses as I watch this

Impressed with the pronunciation, Ben. Most people see the 'z' and give up.

BTW, speaking of questing beasts, have you ever checked out the game Pendragon? I THINK it might fit into the overall rubric of Old School, both because it's game rules are fairly simple, and because it was first published in the 80s. Anyway, it is all about the mythic time of Arthur, and of course there is a questing beast in there, the very one that Sir Pellinore chased around. At any rate, it is a wonderful game system. If you are unfamiliar you owe it to your self to check it out

im assuming the d18 is rolling 3d6, maybe the author wanted the middle sections to be more common than the extremes

To be honest, we intended for all of those rolls to be made as 1dx. It's true, there aren't a lot of d18s out there, but there were 18 appropriate listings for that table, and we didn't want to include a couple of extras just to get to 20. The thinking is that in-person DMs could roll a d20 and just reroll 19s and 20s, and that online DMs could use dice rolling interfaces (or Siri, for that matter) to roll 1d18s.

Gotta love those knotwork borders taken straight from google images I've seen on approximately 1000 black metal and dungeon synth covers. Other than that what a great idea.

The art doesn't grab me on this one. It's very 'wishy-washy'.
