Did anyone else notice they changed Isaac Watts' lyrics? He wrote "would He devote that sacred head for such a worm as I.." They changed it to " would He devote that sacred head for someone such as I". Gotta make sure everyone has a high opinion of themselves! You have to really struggle in this day and age to get back to the godly humility of someone like Isaac Watts. 😢

The first verse, the original lyric is , Would He devote that sacred head for " sinners" such as I, a d you changed it to " someone " such as I. Why the change? We are sinners, He died for sinners. Do you think the truth is too harsh that you have to soften it? People need to know they are sinners, they need to know the truth. It doesn't need to be softened, because then you actually are not being honest with with what the truth is. You're actually indirectly deceiving people.

i noticed it too but worm is appropriate when he wrote the lyrics and still is today. when i sing i will be saying worm.
The version I’m familiar with uses “for sinners such as I,” which I think works well
