I tested both the Speed Twin and T120 before purchasing the T120. The thing prospective buyers should bear in mind is that they have quite different personalities despite their similarities on paper. The Speed Twin feels like an athlete, which sounds good but it also means it always feels taut and somewhat high strung, which was especially evident to me in the pronounced engine braking. The T120 by contrast is unstressed and much mellower, which doesn't mean that it can't pick up the pace (it can), but it's particularly enjoyable just cruising without a care in the world. So, as alfie eats cats said, if attacking the twisties is your thing, buy the Speed Twin, but if you'd rather have that unhurried feeling with the option to hustle from time to time, pick the T120 as I did.

My thoughts exactly - don't fancy the twichiness of the steeper rake and shorter wheelbase and the extra heat from the higher compression pistons. Also the 120 just feels more substantial, stable, predictable and comfortable. Better now with alloys and a lighter crank too.

I thinking of buying either a speed twin or the T120 and the info you provide is really useful. Thank you

There's bucketloads of accessories for the Speed Twin if you go aftermarket. The craziest example is probably Rennstall Moto who have a kit to totally transform the look and feel of the bike.

I still can’t decide. Coming from a ninja 650. Wanted more of a classic look easy to ride for hours. Love the look of the t120 but think I might miss the handling of a more agile bike

Thinking to get the twin, I've ridden sport bikes before and over it, but don't want to get bored so I think the twin will go. I want to take my wife with me sometimes but if she grabs on me it should do the trick wouldn't it?

Speed Twin has 11:1 compression ratio to 120's 8•5:1, 99hp to 120's 79, bigger torque, rake and trails's steeper for sharper handling, 17 inch front wheel (120 18 inch), hotter camshaft, several kilos lighter - completely different bike!

The Speed Twin has more grunt than the T120 but you really have to keep the revs up to get the most out of it .

British customs in the states have 1 inch risers available. With them you don't need to change any cables. Had the same problem but got away with adjusting the bars towards the seat a little.
