I own a Rcz R for about 2 years and half, having more than 40k km. Only a little problem and low priced spare part for a "acoustic sound resonator air tube" around the air filter box (probable cause: non-original sports air filter that created too much pressure) and another ecu issues due to an external pedal booster on accelerator sending the ecu in protection showing errors and lowering revs. Two issues made by me with these two "light" tuning mods. This Ecu system is settled in a very balanced and preservative way to work with such a powerful engine as it is with this hp/lt power ratio (once released in '13 was the most high in a production car ever) so every tuning without modding the original ecu compromise longevity and reliability.
I saw the concept car for the RCZ on a carshow in Brussels. When it came out I bought a grey RCZ 2.0L Turbodiesel. Gave it a chip tuning to 200 hp and a bit over 400 nm torque. I really liked that car. It was comfortable and well equipped. The 19inch rims with the unusual tyre size costed me an arm and legg to replace tyres.
I've heard of people fitting a certain type of Nissan wheel (I can't remember what it's from) because the design is very similar but they are slightly different size so you can get more common tires, they even swap the Nissan center cap logo for a Peugeot one.
@@SUPRAMIKE18 Peugeots having a 4x108 or 5x108 bolt pattern most of the time would have me doubt this since im not aware of any Nissan with the same bolt pattern, especially since Nissan shares a lot with Renault that to my knowledge uses 4x100 or 5x100. Then again im not an expect on RCZ's more so the older Peugeot stuff, trying to find wheels for my 605 (5x108 bolt pattern) that id be happy with has been a task especially since the centerbore diameter is larger than on Fords for example.
I own a Peugeot RCZ diesel chipped to x00 hp and despite having owned a Mercedes C200 Kompressor I would not change my Peugeot again for the Mercedes. It is one of the front-wheel drive vehicles that best adapts to the road, and with curves or straight lines it is incredible, you put the car's dynamics to the maximum in curves and it is incredibly fantastic, safe, fun, incredible. I live in the north of Spain, in Galicia, where most of the regional roads are pure curves to have fun in rallies, believe me, it is an incredible car.
Last month I had a roadtrip from Poland (Warsaw) to Austria (Salzburg), through Czech Republic. I've decided to avoid any highways and expressways, and it was great!
I currently live in Madrid, Spain and i can confirm there is a bunch of epic roads within an hour of drive. What is even more special that some roads are really quiet. The other day i had to drive (at work) from a small village next to Guadalajara to Riaza. it took me 1hour an 45 minutes i have seen 5 cars and four of them came opposite direction. it was blast on mountainous small roads. Got to love Spain!

I had a nimble Astra with 100hp. Not a fast car but I equipped it with a sport exhaust, 17 inch rims with low profile tires, koni suspension. Looked awesome with it, had a aggressive stance and it all came together on roads like these where you could drive the absolute shit out of it. Because of the low power output you could drive it full throttle everywhere and because of the upgrades it cornered like mad, such a fun car to drive.
Also these more sportive designed cars are always sort of a niche vehicle. hey are more expensive than a comparable sized other car, not exactly what you would buy as a family car. If you drive alone and want to spend the money, they work as a daily driver. But otherwise they are more like a second car to have fun with.
Production was stopped not because of emissions, despite the very high european limits the CO2 emissions are only 145g/km (it is in fact within the "euro 6" emission class limits). Very low for a sports car of this power, the halting of production after two and a half years I think was because of market reasons as you noted but mainly because of the growth of suv/crossover sales that in Europe start around that time in a massive way cutting off sales of spiders and coupes altogether, except for the Audi Tt that became popular but also one of the few coupe choices.
It had 3 Engines all 1.6 Liter 4 Cylinders and 1 2.0 Liter Diesel. Of course with Turbo and the R on the Video was the topmodel with stock 270hp i think which was alot 10 years ago for a 1.6 Liter 4 Cylinder.

Almost funny or ironically. Earlier today I watched one of your older videos, a year ago or so. And you popped a question; “what kind of car is that?” And if I had remembered the name I would have replied. And now you put up a video about this very model you asked about earlier today…at least for me 😂 Besides that this video is probably shot during the early morning hours. And the cool roads it features … they’re typical for 🇳🇴 too😊
I've just done a two week trip through scotland. Definitely reccoment it for driving, i will be back when I have my bike licence. There are so many fantastic twisty roads, and they are typically two lanes! so you can give it a bit of speed with more confidence (compared to england and especially wales and cornwall, which have very twisty roads but they are commonly one lane, so you have to take it super careful)
Ah, the RCZ. It is so cool because it is weird. Technically it is a Peugeot 407, but the exterior is bonkers. Just compare this to for instance the Opel Calibra from the 90s: that is just an ordinary Opel Vectra, but the looks are very different and very cool looking if you ask me. The road in this video is a typical backroad in Czechia. Awesome. The original video says that this car has a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder turbo engine with 270 hp.

It's a 308 underneath actually. The 407 was built on the same platform as Citroën C5.
Hey Ian, the car in this video is the Peugeot version of the Audi TT. All Peugeot RCZ cars come with a 1.6 L 4 cylinder engine. This R version is the most powerful version of this 1.6 L 4 cylinder and comes with 275 HP and does 0-100 Km/hr in 5.9 seconds. Top speed is 250 Km/h. There are even 2.0 L 4 cylinder Diesel versions available and the fastest Diesel had 160 HP and does 0-100 Km/hr in 8,7 seconds. Top speed of this Diesel is 220 Km/hr.

Curves on roads are a proven safety feature as they help engange the drivers and keep them at attention, thus reducing the risk of incidents born from inattentive drivers. Also, if we want to do joyrides, we take the bike. There's LOTS of incredibly scenic bicycle routes, plus it's healthy and you can afford to just stop basically wherever you want if a vista is particularly striking. Also, just driving around for the fun of it at our fuel prices, nuh-uh!

Czech countryside roads are really good for cruising or a bit of sportier driving. But you have to go pretty far out of cities (usually in more mountainous border regions or to the highlands) to get a road section that is less busy. In the video they obviously got it closed off for the purpose of filming, otherwise driving like that would be a traffic accident guaranteed. But if you drive safely and - more or less - within speed limits it still can be a good driving experience if you are into it 🙂 For comparison, when I was in the US I really enjoyed a road trip from Seattle down to San Francisco on the coastal highway 101, especially the section in Oregon between Tillamook and the Oregon - California state line. That road was quite curvy (at least for an American road) with lots of climbs and downhills and not very busy in mid July. And of course there were lots of beautiful views of the Pacific ocean, coastal mountains, woods, rock formations and the like. If I could choose where to live besides Czech Republic, it'd be the Pacific Northwest of the US
I'm so happy to see you taking a look at the RCZ, I absolutely adore them. To me they tick all the boxes.. Beautiful (that rear end/glass and spoiler up combo😍) Economic (can get 50+ mpg on the motorway... 5 if i drive like a prick) Low insurance and tax group's (due to the small engine and lil crash numbers) Performance and a sound track that leaves my radio.. off I daily drive an RCZ GT the model down from the car featured in the video and its my pride and joy. It's nearly identical to the R model with the same 1.6 lite turbo set up. But instead of the 270 horse the R makes mine as standard makes 200 (chipped to 240).. not so much compared to alot of US sporty cars but the tiny engine keeps it light at just over a ton. Which gives is the same power to weight ratio as a tesla model 3 but with a non restricted top speed of around 160mph For reference/if interested, I payed just under £5k for mine with a full service history and only 43k miles on the clock and the only problem have come from the bmw high pressure fuel pump and I have a feeling the its the chip that might be stressing it beyond spec/my bad Love the channel and again am so happy your taking a look at the RCZ ✌️&❤️
The RCZ shares the engine with the R56/R57 Mini Cooper S. From what i've read, the RCZ-R has some major changes regarding block, pistons, turbo etc. to achive (stable) 270 hp. Many Minis have been "stage 2" or "3" upgrades and achieve the same HPs - but at a quite high possibility of engine damage. Pocket rocket - ready to explode :)
The RCZ WAS actually available with a turbo diesel engine, I remember because they talked about it on the news segment of Top Gear when it came out, I think they said it was the first ever production sports car with a diesel engine
This looks like a Peugeot I'd actually like to have. Which makes it the only modern one... If asked to put my money down, it would still be a Golf GTI clubsport or Cupra Leon. Same sort of performance, but in the end a much more practical car. And that's probably what most customers did. Hot hatches won on the market, because they do the spirited drive, the weekly shop and the long distance journey with 4 people in the car.
I bought an Rcz diesel last year. Ive lived in Czech Republic for 11 years and didn't discover these cars existed until about 4 years ago. RCZ's were more popular in the UK, and are much cheaper to buy (used) there. So I bought in the UK and imported it to CZ. Only negative is the steering wheel is on the wrong side 😆
our [uk] garage bought 3 at the auctions dirt cheap, as the were unloved, they came from a closing peugeot dealership out of those 3 cars, we were able to make 1 good one, parts were either unavailable or really overpriced, so it was a bad buy. it was a good car when sorted, fast + agile, but the parts just failed all the time. the back window was a double-bubble shaped glass, unobtainable at 4yrs old, the electric seats used to fail, $3000 for a replacement electric motor, etc, etc shame really...
You should just grab the family and come here to Czechia. I bet there is some hundreds of car guys that will instantly let you drive their car for trips. You can drive from town to town from car guy to another, visit skoda and tatra museums and some castles and medieval cities, i bet you never seen something like Prague centre or Cesky Krumlov on own eyes. Awesome food, places to visit, roads and cars to drive on and by, think about it. 😁😁❤️🇨🇿
It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than driving a fast car slow. And part, if not most, of that road have probably been there in one form or other since before the US was a thing.
If you want to see some videos of the west coast of Norway, I have a few GoPro videos I made from various scenic routes. I don't know if you'd consider this cheating, but I edited the playback speed to 3x to give the same kind of speed as in this video without me having to break all of our traffic laws. Most of my GoPro stuff is basically mountainsides, hills and fjordside roads, some of them being tourist attractions. Since you mentioned liking more windy roads, maybe you'd enjoy some of them.
Roads like this you can find everywhere in Europe, they are like the old roads and often just old horse and wagon, “easiest way to travel” but at the side you often find straight boring highways. As a biker I always take this old roads because it’s nicer, slower if you want and as you can see there is no traffic. In Sweden this roads are called beer roads because when your a little bit drunk you take them and no, there is never any cops 😂😂😂
Rcz still looks good, it looks better in real life but most were already crashed, remember we had like 10 of them crashed in my city in one week because people modded them to 300-400hp but forgot to change breaks and suspension...
They made it for so short because at least over here in the Netherlands coupes barely sell, especially not if they are from non premium brands. The whole lower end coupe market here died with the Celica lol.

Of course can have diesel, europeans sent diesels to le mans, WTCC, and dakar, and use to win with it, specially peugeot or volkswagen (vw in dakar, seat in WTCC & audi at le mans)
It seems those americans know diesel engine only from large, mostly commercial trucks. They have no idea how fun a modern Diesel engine can be and at the same time economically and ecologically more suitable than a gas engine.
@@alexanderkupke920 and pick Up trucks, and tractors and construction machinery, but in Cars, almost all diesels was a flop, maybe per sales number, maybe per reliability Even some semi trucks are moved With gasoline
@@salvador_mano4x4 which is weird, as here in Europe it was or is the exact opposite. Talking about a gas engine Truck (or british English as we usually learn over here, Lorry), you really talk about some historic vehicle from latest the 50s or maybe early 60s. Same for (agricultural) tractors. Trucks like Pickup trucks never really have been a thing here, except for few enthusiats going through the hazzle to import one or maybe some commercialy used ones (landscaping, construction, etc.). You will more likely find a flatbed truck based on e.g. a Mercedes Sprinter. In cars it was mostly gasoline engines at least in my childhood in the 80s, I think it was late 80s or more like in the 90s when Diesel engines for cars really took of. They have always been a thing before, but they were considered rough, noisy and not for those who wanted some more "sportive" driving as they were slow to react. Diesel engines back then usually could be found in fleet vehicles (postal service etc.) or used by people driving a lot of kilometers per year, as Diesel was and in parts still is, less burdened by taxes in comparison to gasoline. So higher fuel efficiency paired with lower prices for Diesel gave them some advantage (As of today a liter of Diesel is about 163 cents, what I consider to be our standard gasoline is called Super E10 is at about 174 cents right now. In the past the difference was even bigger, only after war in Ukraine started and we no longer used russian oil, for a time Diesel was more expensive than gasoline and peaked at I think about 270 to 280 cents) At some time, first common rail injection came to smaler car engines, later on pump-nozzle injection systems, and Diesel engines became smoother running and reacted like a gas engine, but with more torque, you could even find Diesel engines in sports cars. And today, when well done, A Diesel engine with a DPF and all the filtering equipment may well beat a gasoline engine in efficency and emissions. (With current emission standards even most gasoline engines need a particulate filter by now.) Comparing the same vehicle with about the same size engines (by kW or hp), you get more torque from a Diesel and fuel consumption may compare like 5 liters of Diesel on 100 km compared to about 6 to 6.5 liters of gasoline.
Roads like this are not hard to come by in europe. Not so much in the flat areas towards northern germany or france, but as soon as you start to get some hills you can find winding roads like this without end. What i'm not happy with is the driving style displayed here. I sincerly hope he was either on a closed track or had some spotters warning him about oncoming traffic. I do like driving fast myself, but there were several situation where he would have no chance to react to oncoming traffic in time to avoid a collision.

@05:45 I sure hope the entire road was closed. Imagine just merrily cruising around in the opposite direction...👴😱👼 @06:46 A friend of mine (a fanatic sports car racer btw) used to say: "Anyone can be fast on a straight line, but being fast on curvy roads is a whole different ballgame.". Topography is one factor. The other is that property lines as well as roads were drawn much later in most of the U.S. over a relatively short time period whereas in Europe, those things developed over many centuries.
So my recommendation for you Ian would be "puh-shaw". It's probably the closest an American would get to pronouncing it correctly. Also, I think your mic signal is living at the redline right now. It's gained all the way up like an electric guitar and distorts quite a lot, muddling the clarity of your new higher quality gear. Try finding a gain level where it does only occasionally hit the limit (big loud laughs etc), and then use some sort of compressor on your recording software to fine tune the signal. The distortion you get right now could also be the result of a compressor being setup incorrectly, so if you are already using one you should adjust your existing settings. Plenty of quick and simple guides online on how to adjust the signal to get the most out of your microphone. Don't worry, everyone who gets their hands on new microphones get it wrong the first time. It's like flooring the gas pedal on a V12 Lambo wondering why it wrapped itself around the nearest tree, because that's what you did in your 1.2 litre Skoda Fabia as well.
Yes great advice. New videos this coming week should sound better, I just retuned a lot of Audio settings for the new mic. Just takes a bit of adjustment for sure 🎉

Wasn't there one that had like 270hp or something like that?
I own a Peugeot RCZ diesel chipped to x00 hp and despite having owned a Mercedes C200 Kompressor I would not change my Peugeot again for the Mercedes. It is one of the front-wheel drive vehicles that best adapts to the road, and with curves or straight lines it is incredible, you put the car's dynamics to the maximum in curves and it is incredibly fantastic, safe, fun, incredible. I live in the north of Spain, in Galicia, where most of the regional roads are pure curves to have fun in rallies, believe me, it is an incredible car.
Look at the Peugeot 406 coupe with a v6 engine. A beautiful car designed by Pininfarina.
Last month I had a roadtrip from Poland (Warsaw) to Austria (Salzburg), through Czech Republic. I've decided to avoid any highways and expressways, and it was great!
avoid our main highway at all cost😂 you even save money🤘
I live in Cz and there are thousands of miles of road like this here a nice one starts right behind my house I drive it a lot and fast great stuff!

Wow, it is surprising, Misha Charoudin did a video of a lap from Nurnburgring Nordschleife at this Peugeot literally several days ago! P.s. If you dont know he is a teammate of Jimmy Broadbent (sim-racer and now professional pilot) and they raced 24hours there not so long ago.

They cut the RCZ-R because of European law on CO² emissions. And they didn't sold enough of them to justify a rework with a new engine/hybrid.
@@philo7194 They cut all RCZ because of Euro6 regulations, since their biggest sales for RCZ was the diesel version.
In Italy, I've seen designated BIKE roads that look just like this

I have a TT after owning a RCZ 200 GT because it was forever in the garage being fixed the Audi is older done more miles and is 100% more reliable.

I loved to do day trips skiing in the swiss alps
RCZ was 2010 - 2015 in Australia, and yes they came in either a petrol or diesel, the diesel with a manual and in white is my wish
Almost funny or ironically. Earlier today I watched one of your older videos, a year ago or so. And you popped a question; “what kind of car is that?” And if I had remembered the name I would have replied. And now you put up a video about this very model you asked about earlier today…at least for me 😂
Besides that this video is probably shot during the early morning hours. And the cool roads it features … they’re typical for 🇳🇴 too😊
The Peugeot RCZ R was a victim of Peugeots model cull to help it reduce its vehicle types by 2022.
The 407 was built on the same platform as Citroën C5.
looks like my south west roads. curvy on small hills....my hatchback love them.
The RCZ was nicknamed the ALDI TT, for being a half-price Audi.
Yet it looks better

Yes, it's the famous 1.6 engine that is also used in the Mini which is having timing chain issues. I think it is rated the worst engine constructed the past 20 years.

In Estonia - Kergu to Libaste .. Kergu road 20,4 km / 13 miles = 38 curves.
There was the Audi TT from this era, the last from this style are the Alpine a110, and the gt86/gr86.

But if you drive safely and - more or less - within speed limits it still can be a good driving experience if you are into it 🙂
For comparison, when I was in the US I really enjoyed a road trip from Seattle down to San Francisco on the coastal highway 101, especially the section in Oregon between Tillamook and the Oregon - California state line.

Beautiful (that rear end/glass and spoiler up combo😍)
Economic (can get 50+ mpg on the motorway... 5 if i drive like a prick)
Low insurance and tax group's (due to the small engine and lil crash numbers)
Performance and a sound track that leaves my radio.. off
I daily drive an RCZ GT the model down from the car featured in the video and its my pride and joy.
It's nearly identical to the R model with the same 1.6 lite turbo set up.
But instead of the 270 horse the R makes mine as standard makes 200 (chipped to 240).. not so much compared to alot of US sporty cars but the tiny engine keeps it light at just over a ton. Which gives is the same power to weight ratio as a tesla model 3 but with a non restricted top speed of around 160mph
For reference/if interested, I payed just under £5k for mine with a full service history and only 43k miles on the clock and the only problem have come from the bmw high pressure fuel pump and I have a feeling the its the chip that might be stressing it beyond spec/my bad
Love the channel and again am so happy your taking a look at the RCZ ✌️&❤️
Road II/166 between Smedec and Chvalsiny, south Bohemia
Before diesel models were very common also in small hatchbacks in Europe like VW Polo, Peugeot 206, etc. Nowadays not so common anymore.
The RCZ is the commercial version of the RC carreau and RC Pique prototypes… check them out, they’re nice too
Btw, Carreau means Diamond and Pique means Spade, so it’s RC “Diamond” and RC “Spade”…
I bought an Rcz diesel last year. Ive lived in Czech Republic for 11 years and didn't discover these cars existed until about 4 years ago. RCZ's were more popular in the UK, and are much cheaper to buy (used) there. So I bought in the UK and imported it to CZ. Only negative is the steering wheel is on the wrong side 😆
and thats why its not an option for most. including me. I want my steering wheel on the left - but RHDs are a very good parts source for some models.
Peugeot RCZ is a coupe version for sports after Peugeot 308CC that was a hardtop coupe-cabriolet(CC)

our [uk] garage bought 3 at the auctions dirt cheap, as the were unloved, they came from a closing peugeot dealership out of those 3 cars, we were able to make 1 good one, parts were either unavailable or really overpriced, so it was a bad buy. it was a good car when sorted, fast + agile, but the parts just failed all the time. the back window was a double-bubble shaped glass, unobtainable at 4yrs old, the electric seats used to fail, $3000 for a replacement electric motor, etc, etc shame really...
You should just grab the family and come here to Czechia. I bet there is some hundreds of car guys that will instantly let you drive their car for trips.
Love that road, be awesome to drive in a favourite car.
They do a diesel TT in Europe too FYI

Roads like this you can find everywhere in Europe, they are like the old roads and often just old horse and wagon, “easiest way to travel” but at the side you often find straight boring highways. As a biker I always take this old roads because it’s nicer, slower if you want and as you can see there is no traffic.
In Sweden this roads are called beer roads because when your a little bit drunk you take them and no, there is never any cops 😂😂😂
The hardest thing to drive fast on europen roads for me are US motorcycles, because of the curves.

@@alexanderkupke920 and pick Up trucks, and tractors and construction machinery, but in Cars, almost all diesels was a flop, maybe per sales number, maybe per reliability
Even some semi trucks are moved With gasoline
In the past the difference was even bigger, only after war in Ukraine started and we no longer used russian oil, for a time Diesel was more expensive than gasoline and peaked at I think about 270 to 280 cents)
At some time, first common rail injection came to smaler car engines, later on pump-nozzle injection systems, and Diesel engines became smoother running and reacted like a gas engine, but with more torque, you could even find Diesel engines in sports cars.

But down south in Tennessee the tail of the dragon is the most fun I’ve had in my car under 50 mph.
I’d love to goto Europe and cruise the alps and French Rivera and any where else with fun roads haha

The Peugeot RCZ was an overprized normal hatchback with a sportscar body on it. It looked like it was mid engined, but it wasn't. It was "would be" and too expensive. It was a nice car to drive, but nothing spectacular for the price. Nobody bought it. You could get a more practical hatchback on which it was based for 40% less money.
only people i see drive rcz in my country are like 60 year old men.
Try checking some videos of driving/riding around the Mae Hong Son Loop (Route 1095 /108) in Thailand. Probably my favourite road, even in my old HiLux doublecab.
I did this clip a few years ago - 20 minutes squeezed into 5

Or almost an hour of driving home on Christmas Day 2006 . . . with damaged roads and temporary bridges following the previous year's serious floods ( pretty poor quality due to the camera being used 😒)

In the the US this would be half a lane, there its two lanes.
Subaru Impreza road.😎
Wow, pronounced Peugeot pretty much on spot :p french is unusual ngl
1.6l turbo 270bhp
I was going to ask if this was filmed on a Rally Stage whee the road was closed off, because of no Centre lines on some parts and no cars at all .... Then you said the same thing
The rcz r isn't really a modest car. They give them the look of an audi tt and 270 hp. 0-100 under 6s that's the fastest peugeot ever I think (the one from Taxi movie doesn't count)
PS: Sorry I commented too fast
