Thank goodness that you are telling the World War 2 story of this terrible place. My father was a captured British soldier who was sent to Kinsayok to work as a slave to build that Railway. He was also sent to work in other Thailand jungle camps such as Kon-Kohita, Tarsao and others. He spoke of the Asian labourers who were also made to work in those terrible conditions. Thank you for telling your grandfather’s story.

🙏 This is such a Rare Find indeed to listen to the horrors of the builders endured during the building of the infamous Thailand's " River Kwai Bridge " from a still living survivor! 🙏 Thank You So Very Much for All who've helped Grandfather Arumugam Kandasamy to survived during WWII ... The two Atomic Bombs that used in WWII Japan were indeed Peacemaker Bombs to Stop this Mad , Senseless & Cruel WWII in Asia~Pacific ... 🙏 May All the innocents & Departed be Blessed to a Better World & Realm with No Ageing , No Sickness , No Wars or Death! ... 🕯🌷🌿🌍🕊

Please don’t make the mistake of thinking that the area around the Kwai bridge was where the worst treatment of the forced slave labour happened on this dreadful 415 km railway. Don’t get me wrong it was bad all along the railway and Kwai is famous and highlighted because of the success of the film, “Bridge on the River Kwai”. This area was nearer the start of the Railway but the area that this man’s brother was sent to is KINSAYOK, further north in Thailand and deep in virgin jungle, miles away from any form of Thai civilisation. Kinsayok was where atrocities were witnessed and could be committed by sadistic Japanese guards with impunity😢😭. It was one of the camps closer to “Hellfire Pass” and as anyone who was there, knew it to be as bad as this name implies. How do I know? My father was a captive British prisoner of war on this Death Railway and he was in both Kwai and Kinsayok as well as other camps. He also had experience of cruelty, starvation and even witnessed guards dragging a headless prisoner of war(obviously executed) back into the jungle camp.
Anyone wanting to find out more about the Thai Burma Death Railway should also look into Rod Beattie’s accounts because it’s worth noting that the remnants of the railway you see were highlighted and saved from being swallowed back into the jungle by him and his wife.

My dad was taken out of java to work on the railroad. The dutch got him out of thailand and he was made to fight in Bali. He survived until 1977 but with ill health and a TB scar on his lungs.

Heroes of Malaya? More like heroes to Thailand and Burma. Should've claim ur rights there, weird. N claim compensations from Japanese who massacred Tamilians who affected by diseases during railway construction. Dun forget to claim it from Sinhalese after Tamil minority natives in Sri Lanka got massacre as well. Why always the Malaysian govt. must compensate Tamilians? Like wtf

Here in Malaysia🇲🇾, we don't have LTTE army, Tamil is far lesser in percentage, Tamil is not native to Southeast Asia. Would've more justified to ethnic-cleansing y'all faster and easier🤦🏻‍♂️ what a lost for Malay forefathers.

Thanks for the feedback! We've been trying to include the grandchildren's perspective as much as possible in this series, because we want the younger generation to realise what their grandparents went through, just 2-3 generations ago.
We get what you mean, though. The granddaughter is actually really interested in her grandpa's stories, but it just doesn't come across on camera, unfortunately. Hopefully it won't deter other grandkids from learning more about their families' WWII histories! =)
