    I’m having the same exact problem with my link bar lifter and brand new rockers! Eagerly awaiting the follow up video!!
    My plans as of right now are to before setting each lifter preload, use a drill to spin the oil pump. Make sure each lifter is fully pumped up

    This sounds like a typical Canfield Head valve geometry issue. They moved the valve locations from stock slightly like the highport. You either need the correct guideplates or better yet a rocker with an offset cup like a shaft mount design. I have these heads on a twin turbo fox body cobra.
    When I had these on a NA 302 engine with a Z303 and Motorsport stud mount rockers, the valvetrain made noise but cut 1.62 60ft on motor in a sn95 heavy cobra. Those heads prepped right will absolutely fly. For the foxbody cobra, we took a basic shaft rocker and machined the pedestals to align with the valves to eliminate the guideplates completely.

    • @BREW2LFOXBODY
      @BREW2LFOXBODY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s exactly what I was thinking. I’m going to modify the guide plates and see if I can get proper pushrod and rocker alignment

    If the sound is coming from one side , then switch the flat spot rockers to the other side and if the tapping noise goes away then you found the problem. Stethoscopes are @ 10 bucks a must have in your toolbox and they work just like the ones the Doctors use on you.

    Sometimes in the lifter itself, the cup that holds the check ball and spring inside the lifter comes out of the bore causing the lifter to lose pressure causing the tapping sound. It is always a good idea to disassemble the lifters and inspect them

    I've ran those same rockers and they didn't last, even tried trick flow and scorpion rockers and they have failed. Out of the many rockers I've used the only 2 that worked great with zero issues and that have lasted was the Harland Sharp's and Comp Cams Molly. Some of the other ones had ears from the snap rings break off and get into the oil pump and locked it up twisting the drive shaft. Also a great idea is to make sure your oil drain plugs have magnets built in and stick an old speaker magnet to your oil pan to help catch any metal that may work its way to the pan.

    Them roller tips are not heat treated like the more expensive ones. And check your valve stem tips for groves. If you find dips on them, then put some harden lash caps . 😊

    Add valve lash caps to take up for pushrods too long.
    Get a GOOD set of rockers.
    Remember strong valve springs ruin rockers pretty quickly.

      I strongly prefer at least 8 oz of Lucas at every oil change. It actually does help reduce wear on those high friction areas.... Pushrod tips, rockers, etc.
      THINK.. if you've got 300# spring over the nose, that's about 480# on the pushrod tip's tiny surface area.... Which is about 2,000 pounds per square inch... And your turning that thing 6,000 rpm.
      HARD ON ROCKERS ????

  • @StratTone
    @StratTone 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could be so many things. One of the best ways I’ve found to figure it out is with a dial indicator on top of the suspect rocker and just the usual suspect. If pushrod length checks out then you are left with lifter, rock, and (hopefully not) valve guides. Another possibility is a valve tip that is shorter. You can take all the rockers off and run a straight edge across the top and make sure they are even. A tip I can give if you use a dial caliper to take some measurements is to wait a second after tighten back down the rocker. It can take up to a minute for the preload to show in the indicator. This makes you think right after you adjust it and it’s tight that all is good but while you are putting everything back together that lifter takes the preload and the measurement changes after you’ve moved on.
