Subpar story. The idea that humans would send a school bus to uncharted space or that they'd be stupid enough to nuke another species without some sort of diplomacy and risk war with another space fairing species is stupid as hell. Great reading though!
I’ve seen people drown wasps in ranch dressing. The resounding conclusion made by the comments section was in multiple versions. One response was, “get that mfer”, another was “the ranch didn’t deserve this”. You really think humanity wouldn’t choose violence if aliens slaughtered children? Especially BUG xenos? Nah, personally speaking I’d go full 40k on their asses.
Those hive and empire and warrior types are always such arrogant, pretentious, and cowardly bastards. They act all high and mighty when mowing down the defenseless but soil themselves once the "inferiors" fight back.

I think this is an elaboration of a previous story.
There was another similar story of a chitinous bug species killing a scout troop, only to be murdered by actual soldiers, without nukes or anything.

Alien space faring bugs that kill boy scouts out on a tour would be exterminated. Humans don't tolerate bugs that kill kids, on earth or in space.
