Recording and listening your guitar is a very good and important thing to do...You know where you need to improve. Also, you may practice in front of a mirror to check how you look while playing.
It's true. Just start simple and build up slowly as he says. I never new how to play fingerstyle but now I teach fingerstyle songs on my channel. Just stay with it and it will come as fast as the effort you put into it. It's worth the time spent.
At 56 I am totally new to guitar and hardly ever played anything else. Got an acoustic guitar and my approach is fingerpicking style music and classical. I just train and having such a blast doing it. I luv it and Marco is such a talented teacher. - Some or even many, will say I choose wrong guitar and wrong approach as totally beginner. ---- But you know what......campfire songs and strumming songs in general...... is organized noise for me...... I just luv the sound of the acoustic guitar and yes, I have to be very precise with my chords, but the not so wide fretboard helps me a lot. - Only 9 days in since I got the guitar and fingers way less sore. I don't feel that going against the common beginner tips to get a classic guitar with nylon strings and start with campfire music, is slowing my progress down or making any trouble for me at all. ---- I have the idea, that as long as I am having fun while training properly, I will actually progress a lot faster. We learn much faster when it is fun. Just my take on being a beginner and not following the common way. Cheers and appreciate so much these teachings. Thnx
I just started practicing too, also completely new and I also want to learn fingerstyle/classical first because I like the sound of that better. I didn't even know it's usually adviced not to... But learning what you like is never a wrong place to start!

My palm partially rests on the bridge. I watched a video lately where the guy said that the hand shouldn't be touching anywhere. It mde me wonder that maybe I'm doing wrong, eventhough it feels natural. I'm happy that you clarified ♥️
Brooo. I watched the video to improve my plucking and... you made me realise something i do without noticing. So i really felt good plucking with Thumb, index and middle finger when i learned The Power - Baldurs gate 3. You play on 4-3-2-1st string. I rest my pinky on the tip while i pluck it O_O
I've played electric for years and I can shred and sweep pick, all of that, but i'm absolutely horrendous at fingerpicking and I love classical pieces on acoustic so i'm trying to learn
Record to asses your progress, and to feed from it! realizing how much you have improved since the first day. Also let us see what "others" see and hear. Is it pleasant? is it musical? who cares if someone else sees it? haha you know the song... "I'm a BLURRY face and I care what you think..."! that's exactly it! BE FREE!

I used to play the piano when I was a kid and all I played were classical musics. Now I'm trying guitar but I never learned strumming because its hard for me at the chord parts so I went to plucking and played classical on guitar.

I played fingerstyle for one year without learning strumming xD probably the biggest mistake I've been make. I only know how to read tabs for fingerstyle and I can also find the melody my own. I also started to learn some strumming during lock down.
Wow. Strumming seems so much easier than fingerstyle. It took me more than a year and a half after starting to play guitar to even attempt fingerstyle. I never thought I would be able to do it. Now, I can play more than a few songs in fingerstyle.
