The Smiths should especially be played in the month of Mar.
andy rourke's bass is absolutely thumpin in this performance
Fender precision bass tone fits his style perfectly
tremendous
Ya know I was thinking the same
Fucking awesome !!!,
He was brilliant. I love all his bass lines
RIP Andy Rourke…. This recording should be the ‘go to’ and be all over every social media platform. I play this through big speakers and it’s like being there. And that bass!
The best line bass of rock. Andy forever!!!!❤
I didn't know he passed. As big a fan as I am this loss is not a small one to me on a personal level. RIP
Johnny Marr is absolutely incredible., sounds like 3 guitars at once.... and Moz is a lyrical genius. What a band.
Yes, i agree, he's the Mozart of the guitar
@@Calvinism1517 one of the best out there ....always loved his melodic genius + more rock'n'roll signatures
moz and marr wrote the songs together though?
@@katitherat My understanding is Marr wrote the music then dropped it off for Morrissey to add his lyrics/melody.
The rhythm section isn't bad either! Andy Rouke's bass sounds epic on this recording
RIP Andy Rourke - you will be missed.
Your spectacular bass playing on "Barbarism Begins at Home" won't be forgotten.
I'm so eternally grateful to have been in my 20's right through the 1980's 🥳🎉
We will NEVER see the likes again 🎈
RIP Andy Rourke. He's the star on this clip if you ask me. His bass lines are sublime.
They're actually..... surprisingly funky!!
It's the bass man
what a shame that andy's gone. at first i couldn't believe it, far too young. such an underrated bass player. barbarism begins at home is one of my all time favourite bass lines. rip genius.
Morrissey and Johnny dancing at the end of Barbarism is just wonderful
Yeeeea, it was amazing✨✨✨
man.... its so crazy how ON FORM their live performances were, despite marr not being able to duplicate his guitar lines to oblivion like he does on record. them being stripped down and raw live is my favourite thing in the world, really lends the tracks a post-punky edge
Glad you enjoyed this, thanks for commenting
Boring
@@marguskiis7711 😂 brutal
@@marguskiis7711why?😮
@@marguskiis7711To each their own.
53 and 40 years later this performance still has me blown away like it was yesterday, Morrissey, Marr, Andy and Mike are just so on point…R.I.P Andy Rourke ✌️
Agreed, it is a fantastic performance. Thanks for taking the time to comment 🙂
RIP Andy Rourke. The bass here on Still Ill is so complex. Mesmerising.
Andy and Johnny were a combo for the ages
Andy is on fire here. So sad he's gone.
I didn't 'get' The Smiths until Strangeways.. I was always a metal/prog head (still am) in the 80's, but a friend persisted until I understood! I still regard them as one of the greatest and most original British bands of all time.
yep , one of the finest with Lloyd Cole , Adam Ant or Echo & the Bunnymen
@@BlueHopi144 also Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Damned too.
I'm mainly into death metal but love the smiths! Saw them live on the queen is dead tour at Brixton academy 1986
@@BlueHopi144 not sure Adam Ant should be on that list…
@@PS987654321PS he should , but u don't need to agree one bit cause i don't care .
They deserve more respect than Morrissey gives them credit for.
Absolutely
Morrisey (God love him) was _discovered_ by Marr ( ! )
Borissey is a punk for disrespecting the guys that made him someone.
This gave me the chills watching and listening to this today, the day Andy Rourke died 😞
I wonder if the audience realised they were witnessing history in the making...a monumental leap forward in popular music. The influence of The Smiths on society was profound.
Probably not. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
Yes we did ..epic!
Wow love there music this is new wave like depeche mode new world order
I think so - they were pretty unique at the time -- and still are. Saw them on this tour, was a great show
The ultimate band of the 80s .the smiths took music out of the dark ages to a brighter new era. Amazing unique band , I had the privilege to see them in the 80s absolutely amazing 1of the best gigs I ever saw
Very boring band
Boring? 😅 NOT!!!!!!
@@marguskiis7711silly little moist wet wipe. Back to school.
Andy Rourke's performance at the end is really one of the best bass solos of all time.
The first few rows are so mesmerized they can't move.
A guy I worked with at a stereo store in Charlotte turned me on to them, and I was totally blown away. Unlike anything I'd ever heard. And the albums were so perfectly sequenced.
What a great place to first hear the smiths, a store packed with speakers and the Smiths coming out of them all 😎
@@ScottishTeeVee It's been so long I just remembered -
I had tickets to see them in Atlanta, and then Lou Reed the following night. Drove down to Atlanta from Charlotte, 200 miles or so, and the Smiths cancelled their show. Fortunately I got to see Lou Reed the following night, which really helped allay the disappointment. I think this was 1986.
Ahhhh the 80's, Ahhhh 'The Tube', Ahhhh 'The Smiths'.
I wouldn't change being in my 20's to *any* other decade. 🥳🎉🍾🎈
Best time to be young and alive *ever*
They must be best band ever
For sure!
They are the greatest band, imo
Def tp3.
REM and Nirvana up there.
I've literally never heard a bad Nirvana song
@@jasonpeters9716 R.E.M one of my favorites too.
@@jasonpeters9716 people forget the PIXIES - they are still playing strong in 2022 & the best they have ever been in 35 years
You can hear just how good his bass playing was on this video, R.I.P. mate.
Andy Rourke on fire.
😊
Johnny is 19 here. It blows my mind how great he is. Such an innovative guitarist.
Morrissey and Marr dancing on stage. to barbarism begins at home something that we will never see again. Classic Smiths.
Insanely tight performance, the interplay between Andy Rourke’s bass and Marr’s guitar is spectacular
Andy Rourke RIP. Absolutely incredible bass player.
RIP Andy Rourke, 6:12 - as per this tune, unmistakable, remarkable.
superb. Never mind Johnny Marr that bass holds it together
Completely redefined music - best band of the 80's. Nothing before or since , has been anything like this band. Just genius.
Thanks for watching and commenting Peter.
I’d agree with every word of that
The unique sound of “The Smiths,”make them one of the greatest British bands of all time. Simply superb!
Totally agree and that's how the late John Peel summed them up ! A band's sound that was totally British !
8 Irish parents would likely deviate from another installment of English message board bs! ❤
My life wouldn't be life without The Smiths. Cheers. Thank you.
RIP Andy Rourke. what an amazing band they were. thank you for the music.
RIP Andy Rourke, one of their and his best TV performances.Superb
Best guitar...Best bass...Best drums....Best singing voice = The Smiths🦊
Maybe not the "best" singing voice. I'm quite happy with Johnny's voice singing the same songs - while still playing those excellent quitar lines! - on his recent live appearances. But Morrissey was a completely unique stage presence at the time. Not androgynous, the way Bowie or Prince were.
The smiths❤️ Moz ! He is amazing.
Amazing performance and band, all four experts at their individual roles even when they were young in this film, bass just immaculate all the way through Barbarism
Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
Great band. Great TV Show! Used to watch it every Friday teatime before hitting the town! (after a week's work) How lucky we were back then!
The poor teenager of modern times can only dream about their Parent's and Grandparent's 'Privileged Youth' ! dx
RIP Andy. BassHeroe 🤘🏽🔥❤️
What a great performance. All of them at the very top of their musical game. Magic.
Glad you enjoyed this Pam
@@ScottishTeeVee I sure did. Thank you!
Such an incredible band live. Every single one of them are killing it and sound incredible.
Great songwriting, great sound, perfect chemistry. They should get back together.
The Best version of barbarism I have ever heard! So Funky! 🎸
Andy Rourke and Johnny Marr. It’s like they’re one beautiful instrument, they’re so in sync.
saw them live in the 80's twice, just stunning....
You were lucky to have seen them, thanks for watching and commenting
lucky bastard
Johnny and Andy were so in sync. Incredible!
Andy….just incredible, so perfect
My favorite line bass line.
Rip andy ❤
the soundguy who mixed this performance should've gotten a nobel prize
Rest easy Andy... you did bass guitar justice...
By the mid 80s metal at its peak along with new wave …… smiths / new order …… just an unimaginable time for music never to be repeated …
Good lord…Johnny is absolutely slaying the guitar!
Almost 40 years later - as it did back then - this music runs circles around the banal and ubiquitous contemporary music
40 years ago today...this show aired live
Morrissey sings with his soul. The audience looks mesmerized. Many believed.
Mozza is a brilliant live performer though he does not like the term "perform" 😊
A friend had a spare ticket to see The Smiths in 84 and as a hardcore punk I turned it down, one of my biggest regrets , as they became one of my favourite bands in later life.
Marcou vários momentos nos anos 80.....
They were an incredible band. Andy RIP What a talent, what a loss. 😢
Best rythym section of the 80s...superb
This is spectacularly singular among all live Smiths clips that I've seen. Guitar and bass tone was spectacular. An incredible document of the Smiths at the top of their game. That bit at the end of Barbarism was the icing - not only for the long instrumental section, but to see BOTH Morrisey and Marr dancing. Incredible!
If you think this is good you have to listen to the live bootlegs, there are some really good recordings and they play twice as fast and loud as this, look up “I stole and I lied” and “thank your lucky stars”
For me barbarism begins at home is one of the songs for why i enjoy listening to The Smiths so much...the band sounds awesome not only for Morrissey's lyrics and voice or Marr's great riffs but because the whole band as a unit complement perfectly with each other, andy rourke's bass lines and the drum from Joyce makes this song one of the best in my opinion
Never ever gets old....These songs have a freshness and a sparkling drive and Morrissey's lyrics will still be relevant to each generation that comes along. Glad I was in my early 20's when they came along. I remember phoning my brother when I'd bought their first album to tell him just how good they were. Just brilliant live too as this TV appearance clearly shows. Although the Geordies look as though they must have been drinking embalming fluid before the gig. Probably all Duran Duran fans !
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🙂
The Smiths were one of those bands where every instrument and vocal all stood out, the talent was of a very high standard and gelled well for a unique sound and time.
To have been 15 when I found them in 1986 late in their career, well, the pleasure and the privilege was mine and will be untill I die.
The Greatest band of all time
The Smiths at there best, wonderfull stuff.
Thanks for watching and commenting Stu
Watching this tonight and imagining how twitchy they must have been getting when Barbarism goes on and on; they must have been well overdue an ad break.
A brilliant epitaph to Andy’s talents too; never mind Morrissey and Marr, there was another genius on that stage that night.
ANDY FLIPPIN' ROUKE! Marr and all but oh my! Credit to The Tube for getting LIVE music sounding right
Last dance is what the smiths were all about. It doesn't matter they will never get together again. Those last 30 seconds are life eternal
A melhor banda dos anos 80. Inquestionável. Absolutamente a melhor!
Obrigado por assistir e comentar.
@IPA SOLÉ eles não são de 80
Everything was on point, and the era needed the Smiths. The audio is superb!
It is almost impossible to comprehend now how far ahead of everyone else were the Smiths in 1984
Thank God that as young music fans we got The Smiths, now young people get Sam Smith😆
@@ScottishTeeVeenah im 11 and im obsessed with the smiths
Andy rourkes bass in barbarism begins at home is amazing it reminds me of bernard edwards especially the solo 👌

God, I love the bass
Legião urbana bebeu muito nessa fonte heheh. Morrissey vc é perfeito! I love you!
Loved seeing Johnny join in on the dancing at the end!
I hope you see this- I subscribed, and value this band with my heart. Family is still shocked when my sister and I sing and dance to all things Smiths/Morrissey, and they have no choice but to join in, because that’s what’s going on. Huge Fans!!
Thanks for subscribing Julie. Such a shame to lose Andy, but his music live on in the hearts of so many fans.
Way ahead of the game....to this day.
