I care about their welfare as much as they care about mine, and they would be delighted to see me being worked to death fo my earnings. It MUST stop, and the two party system that so many countries are saddled with is perpetuating it. Do you think the present incumbent is on your side? No, no, no. He is on his side, and lives a lot better life than you ever will. He is laughing at you, like they all are, because their bosses are the evil bank execs, not the people.

Also a lot of road uses don't give them room they need let alone respect they deserve.

      @InfernosReaper 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Since the 50s, they've taught as kids that they're supposed to want a huge house and a fancy car.
      .
      Sadly, that led to speculative real estate investing and the housing market becoming a quagmire of over-priced garbage houses and people being in debt for all their working years just to pay that mortgage off.
      .
      Now, a lot of younger generation get that there are better ways. Maybe if enough of them go the route of RV conversions for vans and whatnot, the housing market won't be such a mess.

I cooked, watch tv, & played video games did my log books. The only thing I didn’t have was a portable toilet. But, I didn’t have to get out of my truck for anything. Being a single women
    I had another driver tell me how to be cautious at night walking between the truck’s at night... so I very seldom left my truck only to take a shower, wash my clothes and go grocery shopping. For a make-shift toilet, I went to Walmart and purchased a small garage can, and small plastic bags.

    Nice setup. My friend took his Peterbilt to a company out in Chicago and they stretched the frame approximately 35' and put a custom body on the rig. The company employees the Amish folks to do the the cabinetry and such. Has a couple of slide outs, also self leveling system. He still has the walk through from his cab to the cabin part. Minus the truck, which by the way is an older Peterbilt because he wanted the look, he spent right at $180K. He also had a enclosed double decker caul hauler, maybe 30' in length, made to complete his setup. That was another $60K. Absolutely beautiful. FYI, I asked him about needing a CDL and he said since it's an RV it's not required. But I believe if he at a 70' plus length he's close, if not over the max limit in some states. Stan, if you're interested in his setup and the company he had done the custom work, just let me know.

      No he lost a lot of money. He did refrigerated transport of light weight stuff probably chemicals that need to stay a certain temperature. This truck is probably $200k. Not even 2 years of net income for a truck like this. I don't know what he's been doing but probably paying out the nose for a big mansion at home and a wife that filled up credit cards thinking that good money will never stop. You keep your head down and never spend a dollar more on your truck until you save up a mountain of cash and buy yourself a house. I've seen a lot of guys get brand new trucks and lose it all because operating, repair, and insurance costs are stupid. Nothing but cash in the bank makes truck driving worth it.

    Amazing. I used to camp dispersed in Quartzsite, Yuma and Holbrook, Ca., in the '90's, then got my CDL and drove a million miles in 10 years. Now I am 70 with a small pension from Uncle Sam and thinking about dispersed camping again. Nothing like the solitude of the desert in the winter and the peacefulness of the mountains in the summer. Not being married, I took to life on the road like a duck to water. Camping or driving, nothing like being a Nomad. Nice video. I have to admit it....I miss my Big Rig, as hard a life as it was.

      +Past Famous I had a pop top VW Westfalia in the '90's. Yeah, drove a million miles as a company driver for Simon out of Salt Lake and Swift out of Phoenix. For the 10 years I was a driver, I lived in the truck, which had a 70-inch sleeper behind the driver's seat. Except when we had some time off. Then me and my dog would head for the nearest campground or National Forest and sleep in a tent.

      @boydgood 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Trucking is hard work. First, you have to get your CDL, and probably pass the air brake test and the doubles/triples test and the hazmat test. Then go out with a trainer for several weeks to learn the ropes. Then you get your own truck and try out your wings. Driving a big rig isn't much more difficult than driving a large car, except it is much, much longer and ever manoeuvre has to take that into consideration, especially backing and parking, etc. Everything is power....power windows, power brakes, power steering and this and that. But the transmission has 8,9,10, 13 or 18 gears and double clutching is the proper method for shifting. You got to know all kinds of special laws and know how to use the trucker atlas, know where all the low bridges are and authorized routes....all over the country,, etc., etc., etc. I paid $6,000 for my CDL and 18 weekends of training, 9 in a classroom and 9 on the road. If you are dedicated to a challenging, professional occupation, trucking can be for you.

    Trucking has saved me a few times from being homeless...my last husband thought he could just abuse me and I wouldn't go anywhere since he had control of the finances and just shut me off....dude I was good before I met you I'll be good after the fact...one call to my former trucking company and they said they had missed me 😆 put all our stuff to the curb and it was all gone in 60 minutes...now I don't feel like I need to settle down anywhere...I have no family to support or anything...it's just myself so why pay bills on a place I don't dwell at. A CDL was the best investment I could have made in my life and hopefully I'll have my truck paid off in a few months and then well...I don't know what then...I never made it that far 😆

    I have driven a truck since 1970 off and on for many years. I finally had to give it up for health reasons. The memories you brought back are only for people who have done it forever like myself and you as well I'm sure. There is absolutely nothing like it anywhere in the world so satisfying as being a professional Steering wheel holder. The job was tedious in many ways that few can identify with. It will always be in my heart and will live in me for as long as I live. I still dream about delivering a load quite a few nights a week. My wife will never understand but I probably love driving my trucks almost as much as I love my wife!! Wonderful life!!
