    I wonder if you could raise the corners with the poles, ( not connecting them together but using one half in each corner). This would give you a ton more interior depth. You could make a short line with loops at both ends to space out the tops of these now vertical poles, then stake out each pole to the side.
    I just ordered one of these. I camp in the desert part of the time, so trees are not available.

    • @robpelton
      @robpelton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm...trying to picture what your describing...🤔

    • @DannyB-cs9vx
      @DannyB-cs9vx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robpelton OK let me try better. If you lay the hammock on the ground and put the individual pole pieces into the corners but place the poles vertically, (up and down).
      Now you have legs at each corner that will lift the ends and sides. This will let the top screen go higher as well.
      You will have about as much room as you would if hanging. I ordered one of these but have not gotten it yet, so I don't know if it would work. The poles may need cordage to hold them in the correct position, or I suppose you could place the poles into a hole made by driving a large stake into the ground first and pulling it out.

    FWIW....I have both the Warbonnet UQ protector and 2QZQ Underquilt Protector. The 2QZQ Underquilt Protector is MUCH better the WB's UQ protector. One note though with the 2QZQ UQP, I opted to get the optional longer shock cord to hold up pad even though I have a double layer RR. This option allows be to cinch up the UQP under the RR (with installed lynx of course) on all 4 sides without all that flapping loose material on the WB UQP.

  • @billpetersen298

    You have a double layer, Ridgerunner. Is the under quilt, substantially better than a pad? Or just preference? I was thinking to use a pad, it has more universal use.

    • @robpelton
      @robpelton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find the UQ is far superior for warmth, coverage and comfort. I’ve used a pad here and there as it does work. It’s ok, but not ideal for me.

    Hey Rob, can you do a video on how to use your trekking poles in place of the spacer bars? I know that that can be done with the RR, I just can't find any videos of people actually doing it. Thinking that it would save some weight. Thanks!

    • @robpelton
      @robpelton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tim! The trekking pole mod requires a specific type of trekking pole. Ones I don’t use unfortunately. I’ll see if I can find some and do what I can. Thanks for watching!

    Keep those hacks coming😉
    Interesting info about the underquilt protector. I got the spindrift last year. I figured that I got privacy and warmth both at the same time. For condensation prevention I can leave both doors half way open. Maybe the 2qzq is a better option especially in summer ?
    Have a great Xmas and a happy new year!😀

    Hey Rob I know this may seem silly but I’m just getting into hammock camping. I’m wondering if you can show the knots and loops that you use for hanging the hammock, tarp, and guy-lines?

    • @robpelton
      @robpelton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually yes! I have a tarp set up vid coming on the detailed specifics on my tarp set up.

  • @nedsled2994
    @nedsled2994 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well, I would not say an underquit protector at 5oz is no weight. For 2oz extra down you would have a warmer underquit. Great video by the way, just don't agree on that point.

    • @robpelton
      @robpelton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder if a warmer UQ packs down as small or weighs less than a lighter UQ and UQP. I’ll have to test that out. Thanks for watching!

  • @rgmALC
    @rgmALC 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I want to get a RR, but I’d need a longer tarp (11ft Mountain Fly), probably a new UQ, and obviously a new hammock. Tax return money!?

      I do. I motorcycle camp so don't have a lot of space for both a hammock and a tent. Backpackers doing the PCT also are in the desert half the time and weight and space are an issue.
