I like to think that after the war some tripods were able to retreat to the Arctic, and resume operations there. And a few years later people started hearing the distant horns at night.
They absolutely nailed it with the horn sounds in the 2005 movie. They may not be incredibly faithful to the novel, as many people say, but what people can't deny, is that they're absolutely T E R R I F Y I N G.
They used a friction mallet on a timpani to pull off that effect, By god love how creative Steven makes simple everyday sounds feel so freaking spectacular.
I actually love how the 2005 tripod sounds are scary sounding, awesome job. War of the Worlds has always been my favorite story and read the book twice. I also watched the movies soooooo many times.

Imagine an open world survival game set in this movie’s universe where you have to hide from these things/rarely fight them as the basic premise. Hiding in abandoned houses, avoiding the tentacle camera or dismounted aliens like in the movie, all while managing food/water, meeting roving survivors, occasionally having to fight off people or run into military units trying to fight the aliens.

BTW, any chance you have a high quality version of this? I want to process the horn further in a audio workstation for a music project, and could really use a high kbps file. Can't find one online.
