Michael Lombardi Is The One Guy Not Excited About Adam Peters

  • We did it! We found the one guy not excited about Adam Peters as the GM for the Washington Commanders! Former NFL Executive Michael Lombardi stops by on radio row to promote his book "Football Done Right" and in doing so, endorses the coach-centric model he worked under with Bill Belichick. After Lombardi departs (and while he was there!), I take the time to explain that at the very least Lombardi is misunderstanding what's going down in DC with Peters and Dan Quinn, and at worst is just wrong.

    Lombardi is a hater, he’s Been DREAMING Of a GM job over the past decade and he’s just hating. OR he’s mad because he’s been lobbying for Belichek to get the job here in Washington. IF The coaches are the ones making the decisions then WHY did the Niners Draft lance instead of Mac Jones IF shanny actually wanted Mac Jones. The way the niners draft WORKS, you just don’t hit on every pick

    Dan sets the standards, Adam matches Dans requirements to the players skill set. I can’t believe Adam will go against Dans wishes, even if he had the authority.

    Meanwhile watching Les Snead and Sean McVay working collaboratively to draft Puka tells me this can work. Belichick and Carrol both lost their jobs this year from the coach centric model after they didn't replace their qbs and the talent overall on the roster suffered over time. Meanwhile Andy Reid went to KC without personnel control and has allowed the GM to draft fantastic players keeping the roster built around Mahomes. Mcvay doesn't have personnel control and Les Snead has completed a one year reboot to a playoff team. Lombardi is missing the mark here with his belief that the GM>Coach model is not succesful.

    • @benjamindovel1522
      @benjamindovel1522 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also, the two teams he says doesn't have this model he is incorrect. In SF, Shanahan has control only on the final 53. FA. the draft, and offseason roster is controlled by Lynch. Reid does not have personnel control and a quick google search would inform Lombardi of that. The GM's undoubtedly work closely with these two coaches to accomplish their vision, which is the collaboration that folks talk about.

    • @fatpatlives1998
      @fatpatlives1998 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Belichick and Carol had 20 and 10 years of success with their models though. I'd say the 49ners way of team building gives you the best chance to be competitive year end and year out however hitting on the franchise qb like KC has with a great offensive mind to go with it has a higher ceiling

    Remember Lombardi got his start in the NFL as a scout for Bill Walsh, he was a GM for the Browns for 1 year (2013-2014) he had 1 draft class in 2013 before getting fired before the draft in 2014, who did he draft? Barkevious Mingo with the 6th pick Defensive end who played back up linebacker for his first 2 years in the league.

    Lombardi has turned into a negative jerk, which is one of the reasons he doesn't work in the league anymore. He's especially negative toward Washington, and he believes they should have hired Belichick. Lombardi's inflated opinion of himself leads him to think he's the smartest man in the room.

    I'm indifferent on the Lombardi take as both hierarchies have worked in recent history. But if I had to choose, I'd tend to agree with Lombardi. Scouts go for scheme fit & skillsets but the coach has to ultimately deal with the player on a daily basis so he should probably get the final say while taking into account the GMs input.
