I’ve been a barista at local coffee shops for the past 3/4 years. I’ve been a lead barista for the last 2 years. I finally got an interview so I’m super excited.
I wish I could’ve seen this video before the interview but I still got the job! I did have to ask the interviewers if I can have time to think since I didn’t know I’d be bombarded with critical thinking questions 😂 I nailed it though. without Starbucks experience, because I’m 24 with LOTS of interview experiences. I know what the company seeks for when they ask tricky questions. They want to get personal with you & probably hear the best parts about you, along with weak points that you WILL overcome. A research about the company’s motif and purpose should be a plus but I was a regular at that store so made it double the chance, I think.
I’m glad I found your channel! I used Starbucks barista videos when I applied for that position and got the job right away. Now I’m four months in and have an interview for supervisor on Friday and will use this video as a template for me to go over. 🙂
I know it seems really unfair but it is easier to teach someone how to make drinks then it is to teach someone inventory management/team management. Sometimes they have other transferable skills that help them get it? I’m just playing devils advocate here
Funny enough, this just happened to me today, so I'm doing research on how to properly handle the job. I was a team lead for a playtesting gig, and starbucks found my experience very intriguing when I decided to apply as shift supervisor. I originally planned to become a barista but decided to throw a hail mary instead. I'm really happy it all worked out.😂
Peak is hard! I always went up to each barista about 30 min before peak and asked them what roles they are responsible for during peak. This helps to not have people leaving their stations or trash bags not getting replaced during peak. It is easier to run through expectations before then trying to coach during. Hope that helps!
Are you required to have barista experience or just 1 year of overall customer service prior to working at Starbucks? I’ve had 5 months at Braum’s and plan on getting 10 months or a year at Whataburger just to get experience and I don’t have any barista experience at all. However, I’m very interested at working as a Starbucks supervisor and I am a quick learner, too. ☺️
Any customer service experience! They will ask a lot of questions on how you handle customer & employee relationships within the service industry. Best of luck and let me know how it goes!
Appreciate all the advice. I was working as a shift at a licensed store in my college and apparently it’s a lot different. I didn’t get one of em but I got another interview on Thursday. Gonna use your tips and hopefully I’ll land the job 🤞🏾
So like I'm a young single mom. I can only work 9-4pm MWRF and I want to be a shift supervisor. Do you think I have a chance? And the website IS allowing me to apply to the shift supervisor role from the start. This is a new store that hasnt opened yet. Uhm... I could so use the pay but I've only ever worked fast food crew and managenent (in places where they don't actually train you for management)
You for sure should go for it! Starbucks is very similar to fast food so I think you are more than qualified for the position. Only thing they might not like is your limited availability… they tend to pick people with lots of flexibility. Best of luck!
I'm in the same shoes you were. I used to work at Starbucks and I left for a while, I came back for an interview for a barista position and they asked that I come back for another interview for the shift supervisor position because of my interview answers and experience in manager positions. I'm a bit worried because I don't remember much from my first experience since I left not too long after getting on bar.
Don’t worry about catching up to speed on bar, it will come. There is a lot more important things a shift needs to focus on. Just be nice and open with ur coworkers and make a positive environment and they will respect u!
Just be yourself! If you are a little shy that’s ok, you don’t have to talk a bunch. Just be nice and smile! You got this 🥳 let me know when you get the job!
looking at this video im a barista 7 months in manager asked me yesterday would I like to become a shift? I was so happy because I wanted to grow to become a shift.

Now I know why Starbucks supervisor support more their employees vs customers when there is a conflict, anyways if a supervisor is on the side of the employees than customers will not comeback. To me the tendency should be to assume the customers is always right until facts are cleared.😂😂😂

"the customer is always right in terms of taste and fashion" is the actual quote. "Customer is always right" has been bastardized by headstrong idiots in our world.
