Im glad you put out the message of not judging a book by it's cover in the vid. People are too quick to judge. If they had worked in a job like yours or mine at McDonald's, perhaps they would understand. Great job.
In the USA people like Milk and sugar, such as honey, syrups, chocolate base, and anything sweet, this is why there are so many people in bad health or shape unless they drink it in a moderate way. I know some friends who drink the mixed sugary milky coffee drinks every day and sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. I love Espresso and lattes, I lived in northern Italy and I was happy to drink the coffee there.
Pouring the hot coffee directly over ice shocks it and makes the coffee bitter as heck, that's why specialty places pour the espresso into the milk then ice it at the end. Also the ice melts and waters down the drink
Yes! That is actually our standard of making the drink where I work too, we ice at the end. For my personal drinks, i don't mind the taste of pouring over ice, but I always combine it with another liquid first anyway. Appreciate your feedback!
As someone who works at starbucks, it’s so interesting to see how smaller coffee shops do it. Especially how you freepour all the time. We do it at night when we clean the pumps, but doing it all the time sounds soooooo much better
Caramel macchiatos are the worst. I work at a coffee shop and so many people want a macchiato because it's on our menu, but don't realize that it's just 2 shots with a dollop of foam. So I have to ask if they want a traditional or like the Starbucks macchiato and they look at me like I have 10 heads. Of course I explain to them, but after a while it gets tiresome.
I work at Caribou Coffee and we deal with this on the regular. Some guests say they don't care and they just want the macchiato and whenever I give them a small cup despite what size they order, they return it and make me remake it into a fucking latte lol.
Shots of esspresso and a dollop of foam? You just described an esspresso macchiato. Not a caramel macchiato. Believe me. At my Starbucks a barista got yelled at for not making an esspresso macchiato the proper way. Caramel Macchiatos are made exactly how she describes in the video. Vanilla in the bottom, milk then shots then caramel drizzle. Good luck. Just ask if they would like an esspresso macchiato or a caramel macchiato.
That customer moment is so eye-opening to me & helpful. I work in customer service and try to remind myself that my job could help someone's day if it is rough or possibly receive an attitude resulting from a struggle if that makes sense. We don't necessarily know what our customers go through, but we do have the chance to make their day better with our work & service!!!
The caramel macchiato looked so good! I never knew baristas usually mix it, because the few that I've had (from a Starbucks in Australia) didn't mix the flavours together and it looked and tasted amazing. I hope you do more videos like this because I genuinely find it fascinating watching the work that goes into creating coffee and the little personal touches that each barista has.
Don’t feel bad about spilling your drink! I had a co-worker who spilled a tub of mocha while I was on break and when I came back she was making snow angels in the syrup on the floor 😂 Thanks so much for sharing your story about the woman who lost her daughter! As a fellow barista, I know I get pretty jaded with people that come off rude when you’re just trying to provide them with good customer service. It’s a great reminder that there could be something underneath the surface that we know nothing about so thank you for that! Great video!
As a barista who gets easily frustrated by rude customers, that "psa" at the start really helped me take a step back and think from another perspective, thanks for those wise words!
American coffee is so different to Australian! In general, yours look a lot more complicated than ours. Your americano is similar to our 'long black' but the most anyone asks for with a long black is a little bit of milk on the top, no one ever gets syrup or flavour or cream or anything. And even with lattes, people do sometimes order vanilla, caramel, etc. lattes, but its more common just to get a plain latte, with the espresso and steamed milk. Makes my job easier! :)
Friend at his shop initially tried to have many flavors but eventually settled on about 20. Since coffee was new in our small town he had to draw in the Mexican and Salvadoran farm worker crowd (no beer flavored drinks..sorry..had to pull that one!).. AND THEY CAME! He enjoyed watching/helping them find their flavor. He has a friend who has a bar in SF who introduced him to the Flavor Bible. They are always playing with flavors.
That sounds awesome! Yes I like having a more simple menu also, Ive worked places where they had over 100 flavors and thats overwhelming even for customers.
I absolutely know what you mean by baristas don't drink a lot of milk! I went hard with getting vanilla white chocolate iced mochas, then I burned out and got a lot of tea - now I do an iced Americano with honey and a little cream or soy milk. I think it's funny you said that!
I find it so interesting how other shops do their drinks and processes. I work at a local coffee shop in Bloomington Indiana right next to a huge university. Also I found it interesting how you make macchiatos, we follow the traditional way with just espresso and foam and we never shock the espresso onto ice directly as it can ruin the rich taste of espresso. Still an interesting video and i love seeing how I can improve from other people’s actions and tips.
Hey there! Thanks for these videos! I am completely new to making coffee and have been applying at local Starbucks after leaving a state position. I think a lot of people who work in offices do not understand the complexity in the service industry and especially the details that go into being a barista! I see I have a lot to learn, and these are super helpful!
I might get a job like this My first job I’m 21 I’ve been overcoming my social anxiety/generalized disorder. It’s been improving overtime. Do you think this is a good option for someone like me ? I want to have some chill social interaction to improve at work.
Api hey! I’ve GAD and I’d highly recommend a job like this, pretty chill environment and it’s not a huge corporation so you don’t have to worry about rushes or anything. Sometimes you may have to deal with rude customers and it’s takes a little time to adjust but these kinds of jobs are great for people with high anxiety.
I'm just now watching this, but I am a barista as well!! I work at a local drive thru coffee shop in my town. I love it so much and you're so right about not knowing what's going in people's lives. but it is very cool to meet new people and get tho know them
Taylor Nicole Do you guys have any speciality drinks? At the CoffeeHouse I work at we have Seasonal Drinks like Butter Beer Lattes which originate from Harry Potter and other stuff that are more Fall Festive.
Oh this isn't a starbucks! lol part of the reason i left starbucks is cause its just so corporate and so many rules, I work at a small local company now who's super relational and more relaxed :)
Based on the new name of your channel, I think it's safe to say that Garrett made his way out of the friend zone... way to go Garrett, we love that for you!
i had a job interview the other day for a barista position and i wanted just a taste of how to make some coffee combinations as i have no experience making coffee, except my own. so, thank you! ❤
It's great to have this video to show this experience. Personally, I never favor an Iced Latte or Caramel Macchiato. Always great to practice with things at work too!! I try to practice on my machines at Bucks. Glad you're teaching people the different beverages.
Triggered because as you made the americano I was thinking about Starbucks standards and I had flashbacks to when my old manager yelled at me because I put hot water before the shots.
Yesssss I remember that standard, but putting shots into an empty cup actually shocks them so its good to have a bit of liquid in there to catch them first
I know, at the beginning I had a latte all the time I’m not really into flavoring because what is the point of mask the coffee flavor , after 6 years as a barista I do regular coffee, my fried and co-worker have a latte at 6:30 am lol😖 too much milk and to early to get milk, so regular milk is it!!! Yeah I prefer double shot on the rocks too, is stronger!
iced coffee 365! and girl your lashes are everything. also I agree with what you said earlier, its never just about the coffee or whatever service you are providing. everyones struggling
That would be so sad not to be able to tamp. It’s so satisfying that’s my favorite part. 😂 I’ve never made a Carmel macchiato because my work doesn’t have them on the menu. I’m glad i know how to make it now!
I absolutely hate that we have to stir our drinks at my work too. Also our caramel macchiatos are litterally caramel lattes that cost more. Definitely gonna make one tomorrow like your drink! It's so pretty!
I got the shivers when she made that drink. Probably because ANY coffee that's cold makes me gag. But the combo of ingredients was a turnoff as well. So I probably wouldn't be able to work in the coffee world.
I just wanna say I am in love with your channel and your style and just your personality in general is great. I’m literally so surprised that your channel doesn’t have millions of subs already 🤔
Sad she left, because now we don’t have coffee vids. I am subscribing though because I love her videos and I’m super excited because I love making coffee. I love how she blogs her channel and coffee experiences
Great video. Hi, I'm about to start a mobile food trailer in London. I like your coffee Machine and your coffee grinder. Could you tell me the cost of them.
9:44, I finally found someone else that lifts their pinky up when they drink!!! I always do that and everyone makes fun of me for it lmao, part of it for me is because I broke it twice and the bone isn't formed like it used to be though :( but so cool to witness a pinky upper!!!
It looks to be hard working as a Barista in America. Here in Australia, people order a flat white you give them a cappuccino and they still drink it saying its the best coffee they’ve ever had 😂😂
Just a question... Do you not have to have a sanitize bowl to clean the wands? I work at a small shop as well and we got told we have to have a sanitize bowl for our wands.
One of the drinks that i make would be an iced caramel macchiato with 3 pumps of chai liquid, but a simpler way of saying it would be an iced chai tea latte with 2 shots on top (depending on the size) with caramel drizzle and its so addictive, maybe you could make it and tell me what you think.
I had a customer come up and order his drinks with his friend and I asked how his day was and he said, “not good,” through tears and I said I was sorry and “we’re basically bartenders so I’ve got an open ear if you wanna talk,” because there was no one behind him. And he told me he just gave his fiancée her stuff back and it broke my heart.
Just knowing the ingredient doesn’t make someone a good barista cus I’ve had a lot of watered down coffee and I’m not a barista so I never know what went wrong so thanks for the video cus that’s also one of my favorite drinks!!
As an Australian Barista watching this, I’m finding it soooo weird: Like we have quite a few different coffee options but some of them we call different things (eg. Long black) AND most people don’t have a flavour in their coffee.... like where I work we have only caramel, vanilla and hazelnut. Do All Americans just like things full of sugar?
Love your videos, im just starting to learn about being a barista and appreciate your knowledge. . Thats awesome you are in Washington. I am too. Go Hawks! :)
Those flower stickers behind you look like the Batdorf & Bronson: Dancing Goats symbol. The CoffeeHouse I work at uses that brand of coffee and I didn’t think Starbucks used it. Am I right? Do you use Batdorf & Bronson?
It’s so weird to see how many places make Carmel macchiatos so differently! I’ve worked at 4 stands and they all have been made with vanilla and caramel sauce and milk and espresso and drizzle on top. The only difference between each stand is if the standard is stirred or layered !!
Your lifestyle is so cool, my everyday coffee is from Tescos (the instant one) - that's my monotone life p.s- (Tesco is a British supermarket - just for anyone who doesn't know )
Im glad you put out the message of not judging a book by it's cover in the vid. People are too quick to judge. If they had worked in a job like yours or mine at McDonald's, perhaps they would understand. Great job.
So true. There is always more to the story!
Same and I work at Dunkin’ Donuts
Do I know how to make coffee? Yes. Did I click on the video anyway? Yes
Same.
Really
Yep.
Same here
omg you should do more vid of the diff types of coffee... i'm not a barista but I find your channel so interesting to watch...
Oh thank you Salma! I will have more in the future! Thanks for watching :)
why tf are coffees so complicated in america here in spain you either order an espresso or a latte and thats about it
Exactly
That’s like asking why food is different between Spain and America
Marketing
Yall dont have varieties? Wtf must suck

I didn’t know that! I was wondering why my iced macchiatos were so bitter
You aren’t supposed to mix espresso and milk when you make macchiatos
couchmermaid same! Im gonna try this
As someone who works at starbucks, it’s so interesting to see how smaller coffee shops do it. Especially how you freepour all the time. We do it at night when we clean the pumps, but doing it all the time sounds soooooo much better

that would be so tiring to do at work! Thank god we have separate menu items for espresso machiatos and latte machiatos.

I thought I was the only one who preferred cold coffee over hot 🤷🏻♀️ love your vlogs!
cold ALL THE TIME even in the winter
ME TOO IM THE WEIRD ONE IN MY FAMILY BC I LOVE ICED DRINKS EVEN IN WINTER
I suddenly want to start my own coffee shop someday and be one of the baristas
Carmel macchiatos are literally the cutest drinks next to strawberry açaí refresher with green tea instead of water. It’s literally rose gold
The caramel macchiato looked so good! I hope you do more videos like this because I genuinely find it fascinating watching the work that goes into creating coffee and the little personal touches that each barista has.
Your coffeeshop looks so nice! I was surprised to see a powdered white chocolate, I've only ever seen it as a thick liquid syrup
Don’t feel bad about spilling your drink! thats what hear! I want to try australian coffee sometime!
Yeah agree from an Australian barista:-)
Yeah from another Aussie Barista, I feel sorry for how complicated your drinks are :P
Same in the UK from what I've seen. No one really does all the flavouring stuff.
I would never want to be a Barista in America.
Its so freakin complicated

Aw well thank you Ashley! We try to be positive, the internet doesn't need any more negativity!
I'm just now watching this, but I am a barista as well!! I work at a local drive thru coffee shop in my town. I love it so much and you're so right about not knowing what's going in people's lives. but it is very cool to meet new people and get tho know them
Would you ever consider doing tutorials of some drinks that you do make?
I could! What kind of drinks would you want to see?
Taylor Nicole Do you guys have any speciality drinks? At the CoffeeHouse I work at we have Seasonal Drinks like Butter Beer Lattes which originate from Harry Potter and other stuff that are more Fall Festive.
I just discovered your channel when one of your videos came up on the side of my screen and now I'm hooked. Thanks for sharing!!
thanks for watching!
Thank you for being a coffee nerd, I am learning how great that is!
The Starbucks you work at is sooo different from the one I work at! It’s so cute and homey. And there’s no way we’d be allowed to record ourselves 😂
Oh this isn't a starbucks! lol part of the reason i left starbucks is cause its just so corporate and so many rules, I work at a small local company now who's super relational and more relaxed :)
Providence OPC-Bradenton hey hey hey hey .. chill
Only good placed with coffee have a lamarzocco machine
It’s not Starbucks
Definitely not 🌟 bucks.
I definitely feel the struggle, like my job we aren’t allowed to have the layers just because customers get finicky
I love how passionate you are about the coffee, new follower❤️
And not to sound too weird but I love watching you talk because your teeth are amazing
You are too sweet!

I love making an orange julius!! Big train Vanilla smoothie base, orange juice, ice
You look like a mix of Kendal Jenner and steph pappas. Also, u seem super professional at making coffee.
It's 22nd Nov 2020 watching from Bahrain and I'm from Uganda ,this has been so helpful , having a barista training after tomorrow
Can we get more videos of you teaching us how to make drinks??
Yes!!
awesome, hope it went well!
your starbucks seems so chill and homey!! i work in a starbucks in super target and it is soooo hectic
Its just a coffee stand not a Starbucks!
It's great to have this video to show this experience. Personally, I never favor an Iced Latte or Caramel Macchiato. Always great to practice with things at work too!! I try to practice on my machines at Bucks. Glad you're teaching people the different beverages.

I recognize the branding of your roaster, Batdorf & Bronson / Dancing Goats Coffee!
My mom was take barista course in Indonesia when she was younger, and I learn a lot from her especially about manual brewing.
Oh thats awesome!
Omg those shots looked so beautiful.
Great video. Hi, I'm about to start a mobile food trailer in London. I like your coffee Machine and your coffee grinder. Could you tell me the cost of them.
is your work just like a drive thru only? do you work alone? does it get busy and stressful if you work alone?
Yes its a drive through only!
9:44, I finally found someone else that lifts their pinky up when they drink!!! I always do that and everyone makes fun of me for it lmao, part of it for me is because I broke it twice and the bone isn't formed like it used to be though :( but so cool to witness a pinky upper!!!
Hahaha I didn't even notice that I did that! I have no excuse!
Garrett and Tay I didn’t notice either until people pointed it out to me! Be proud, you’re a queen 👸💁🏻♀️
Beautiful shots 😻 that cream golden color
Tried at home the Iced Caramel Macchiato as you recommended, a whole different experience! Thanks!
I am excited for unique drinks video O:)
You look like Kendall Jenner A LOT.
Ahhh hahaha i get that so much and i don't entirely see it but its such a compliment! lol
Taylor Nicole it is!! You guys are both so beautiful :)
I was definitely going to say a mix between Kendall Jenner and Gal Gadot!
You even sound like Kendall Jenner 😂 looks like a doppelgänger situation going on maybe? Haha
Absolute DREAM Girl!!
Love your videos ! Great job ! 👍🏼👍🏼
Also I have that coffee machine in my Coffee Club in Aus!! This is exciting hahaha
hey how did you learn coffee when opening your trailer ?
I had been a barista for 7 years prior to opening my own!
It looks to be hard working as a Barista in America.
Here in Australia, people order a flat white you give them a cappuccino and they still drink it saying its the best coffee they’ve ever had 😂😂
Soooo I am gonna need a whole video on how to be a barista and how to use and clean everything. Pleassssseeee I am begging you
Our town is getting a Starbucks soon! I am so excited!
I had a feeling you were from around Seattle wa! I work in a coffee stand in Monroe wa! About 3-4 hours from you!
Wow so close!!
I work at a stand in woodinville 💁🏼♀️
She’s from Seattle? I’m about 20 mins away from seattle😂
Brittanie preisner lol I live there😂
i love my iced caramel macchiato with raspberry syrup. it tastes great. 👌
we have a carmel coconut iced latte at my work and mÿ goodness it’s amazing
Omg i agree with you about not judging i do the samething at my job 😥
Just a question... Do you not have to have a sanitize bowl to clean the wands? I work at a small shop as well and we got told we have to have a sanitize bowl for our wands.
We've never been told that! Each health department has slightly different rules, we do wipe down and purge after each use though!
I filled out an application to work at a cafe today :))
good luck!
Omg this Starbucks it’s so old school it’s so cuteeee
Isn't it adorable?! Kind of miss it sometimes!
Looks like an Aroma Joes
Not Starbucks bro, lol
Thats why we were born .
proud to be a barista .
I love it as well, glad you do too!
Where are you from ?
One of the drinks that i make would be an iced caramel macchiato with 3 pumps of chai liquid, but a simpler way of saying it would be an iced chai tea latte with 2 shots on top (depending on the size) with caramel drizzle and its so addictive, maybe you could make it and tell me what you think.
The caramel macchiato was a Starbuck version. A real macchiato is a 4oz drink, 2oz of espresso with 2oz of steamed milk
Erika Winner espresso macchiato is what you mean
I'm thinking about becoming a barista, but I have just a little but if experience from working in the McCafe. Any tips?
I grew up in Lacey 😊 I live in Seatac now. Had my first barista job in 2015 it’s a fun job.
Yes so true, sometimes you just have no idea what people are going through!
Do you prefer making your flavor drinks with the syrups or powder?
I used syrups for everything but chai and white chocolate!
Just knowing the ingredient doesn’t make someone a good barista cus I’ve had a lot of watered down coffee and I’m not a barista so I never know what went wrong so thanks for the video cus that’s also one of my favorite drinks!!
I know this is a rlly late comment but your filming on my b-day!!!lol
You make me want to quit my banking job and go back to coffee lol it’s really a passion
Omg you become my favourite barista
As an Australian Barista watching this, I’m finding it soooo weird:
Like we have quite a few different coffee options but some of them we call different things (eg. Long black) AND most people don’t have a flavour in their coffee.... like where I work we have only caramel, vanilla and hazelnut.
Do All Americans just like things full of sugar?
Girl trying spilling a 32oz Redbull Drink during a lunch rush. Then having to kick it to the side to clean it up later lol.
Love your videos, im just starting to learn about being a barista and appreciate your knowledge. . Thats awesome you are in Washington. I am too. Go Hawks! :)
I love your eyelashes 😍😍
What mascara are you wearing??
Im not sure what its called but its Loreal and its a pink tube!!
The truth with the americano hit me so hard because i felt exposed 😂😂
If you dont strir it you drink a shit ton of syrup at the bottom but thats just my opinion I think half sweet might taste really good that way!
wow I liked this video so much. It was really helpful and awesome in general :)
Thank you! I appreciate it :)
How long does it take to learn to make all kinds of coffee in a cafe...?
also i hate a messy bar and i got so happy when u immediately cleaned the espresso wands, etc. yay clean barista team ksksk💘💓❤️
Those flower stickers behind you look like the Batdorf & Bronson: Dancing Goats symbol. The CoffeeHouse I work at uses that brand of coffee and I didn’t think Starbucks used it. Am I right? Do you use Batdorf & Bronson?
Yep! We use Batdorf!
i just started working at a cafe i suckkk at making a cappuccino and i always forget what the customers order do u have any tips to remember
If you have regulars you see everyday you could write their name and drink down! sometimes that helps to remember!
When you poured the eggnog into your drink I could literally taste the eggnog now I want some lol

I love me some Wa!
It’s so weird to see how many places make Carmel macchiatos so differently! I’ve worked at 4 stands and they all have been made with vanilla and caramel sauce and milk and espresso and drizzle on top. The only difference between each stand is if the standard is stirred or layered !!
Your lifestyle is so cool, my everyday coffee is from Tescos (the instant one) - that's my monotone life

well you can learn more and implement new things into your lifestyle! nobody is holding you back!
I'm in Olympia - I recognize that label! I love that coffee.
