That was a calculated move. Don't forget that this is a reality show in all but name. Your pitch is reviewed multiple times so you cannot just think of a valuation and run with it. Their goal was marketing and the only reason they made it dramatic and accepted the deal was so that their pitch had higher chances of appearing of tv.
