- President Joe Biden delivers his 2023 State of the Union address before Congress on Tuesday. The speech will be Biden’s first State of the Union since Republicans won back control of the House, ending two years of unified Democratic government in Washington. As Biden outlines his priorities to lawmakers next month, he will face a new reality that all of his legislative goals will require Republican support.
During Biden’s first two years in office, Democrats passed key pieces of the president’s agenda without GOP support.

How is it that you can have so many people in one room that pretend to want the best for this nation and things are so screwed up?
Well, all of them with the exception of like 5 verifiably game the shot out of the stock market. They're loyal to their incentive, which is to a combination of lobbyists paying them and their insider trading stock portfolios.
Easy, democratic control of both houses and the oval office by a real life manchurian candidate
They are getting rich while the middle class is destroyed and the lower class drowns
Because they're not trying to make it better for you. They're trying to make it better for them. That means taking your money.

As a mid-twenties working American I've never felt more out of touch than when seeing this room full of elderly, rich, entitled "leaders" just smiling and shaking each other's hands. They get to have their bickering and arguments all the while still getting paid more than a majority of Americans and neglecting the people they were chosen to represent.
Some of them are actually trying to fight for us.. but I do still agree
They also get the absolute best health care package and voted to never have to take paycuts. How nice for them.
EXACTLY. Going into Congress should not be a means to get rich, yet soooo many members get rich while in there.
Who put them there? Voters. Voters are the problem. Congressional approval is usually 10% - 15% yet the average approval for individual members of congress is far higher. Everyone thinks congress sucks but just not my guy and that is the heart of it.
Then go run for office. Its easy to complain. Some of these jobs are such a pain because of the bickering that nobody is dumb enough to want the job.

So true! This January they reported 500,000 new jobs were created. Here's where they got that number. They estimated (made up) that 3 million people would be laid off after Christmas. 2.5 million real people were actually laid off. And that's how they got 500,000 new jobs created.

There is no such thing as assault weapons. A 9mm handgun can do MUCH more damage than an ar-15 shooting 5.56 at a target with no body armor. And background checks are already happening everywhere. As far as buying a gun you have to wait a period before receiving said gun. As far as everything else, I have my own opinions but this comment is already very long so I'll spare you. I believe everyone should be able to retire in their 60s. Forcing an 80 year old to work is ridiculous. Kick in all the people that contributed for decades and then died before collection age. The government should have a surplus but during warmongering Republican administrations they used SS as a slush funds for wars. Not my problem and it’s up to them to fix it.
At 70 years old I remember when almost every town had factories that manufactured something. Even the little town that I was raised close to manufactured ceramic lamps and vases. They had 3 factories in 3 towns locally. Every place had factories, That was BRE! Before Reagan Era When everything got shipped overseas, The jobs left and did not come back! The standard of living went down, the wages stayed stagnant and the benefits disappeared! It is time to reverse the trend, Time to put America first and make goods here instead of making it in communist countries so the Capitalist countries don't have to pay a living wage! If you have to pass protectionist laws to protect America then so be it! The Politicians have sold out our country to make the Corporations happy and sold out the people in the process! Maybe you can help me understand this, because it definitely gave me pause when Biden was speaking about it. I am left-leaning and I do support creating more jobs for our people, obviously, but I was raised to understand that factory jobs are low-skill labor and often would lead to chronic issues in older age (due to standing all day, moving heavy objects, etc.) and, in some industries more than others, would come with a significantly higher chance of death on the job as compared to an office job. I was told the pay wasn't great but it was enough.
I can understand the appeal from a politician's perspective of having everything built in-house (in America, so we're less reliant on other countries who may or may not cut ties with us in the future), but what's the incentive on the workers' ends? Biden is speaking about 3% record unemployment and at the same time saying he wants to bring back factory work? Again, as I was raised, this is not a cut above other jobs - it's a step down. Are things really that bad out in more rural areas that even a factory job is more enticing than other alternatives, or am I missing something about factory work? Are there unique benefits or pensions that you can't get access to working other jobs? Will these new factory jobs have unions from the jump? I just can't wrap my head around why it's a good thing to bring manufacturing back to the US.
We exported it to poorer nations because they'd do it for cheaper and because most Americans simply don't care about the standard of living or wellbeing of foreign people, especially those in underdeveloped nations. Why do we want to bring that back here? In theory, it should lead to more expensive goods due to higher overhead for companies because now they have to pay American workers instead of foreign workers willing to work for pennies on the dollar. Genuinely confused if somebody could clarify.

Term limits dont' fix anything, if anything it makes people in office MORE susceptible to external influences. It also means if you get a good politician in there he also has to abid by the therm limits and you have to find someone also good to replace them, its better to leave the good ones in as long as you can and vote the bad ones out... A way to fix thise would be instant run offs, incumbets are automatically bypass primaries (so newcomers can get attention), setup that way an incumbent has to stay competitive with both opposing party as well as thier own......

Every time a senior citizen gets an increase on their social security their rent is increased. Regardless if it's the housing authority Or at a senior center, The rent goes up so they don't get the extra money. The majority of senior citizens live way, way below the poverty level.
