You *MUST* use Constant Current power supply, or you will burn the diodes and they will not produce light. So, do not do what is shown in this video with direct connection to battery.
Most of this video is a waste of time. It's about getting the laser out of the DVD unit and most of the video is about dismantling the unit itself. This could have been shortened to less than 2 minutes.
I must agree + he didn't build a driver cirquit so the diode will probably die very soon he needs a constant current source. But the 2017 music is fire 🔥
@@skyline3916 - You will burn out the Diode. You need constant CURRENT power supply, the voltage does not matter but needs to be above about 2V. But you MUST use current limiting or you will burn the Laser Diode.
The reason the laser diode did not light up is because you burned it out you cannot just supplied voltage you need to supply a constant amount of current or the laser diode will be destroyed
Some devices, especially low quality and old ones don’t have an IR blocking filter, so you can use that to see if you got the IR laser. Be careful though!
I try this one....I almost expend half of my allowance but at the end...IT DIDN'T WORK??? WHY IS THAT??? CAN ANYBODY EXPLAIN WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH THIS ONE???
If your old DVD burner wasn't playing or recognizing CD's or DVD's to begin with, chances are very good that the laser diode was weak. In fact, that was exactly why I replaced my DVD burner recently. I did extract the laser diode out of the defective DVD burner today, but upon application of voltage, the light was very weak and so unusable.
Actuialy i had tried this and it did not work, realized the fire is fake. i am frustrated.. the paper had been lit from the bottom, known because of how the paper starts to darken then all of a sudden, ignites.
@@anthonyr2319 If you connect battery without current control (minimum a resistor) chances are high to kill the laser diode within seconds. Same if you confuse the pinout, so always use an 1k resistor to try out correct pins. You will neeed a lower resistor to output more light, but at full power it will likely die by lack of current control. And never stare into beem (nor into reflection by shiny materials); this can make you blind!
The reason that it didn't work is that this video is very BAD INFORMATION. As AerialTheShamen says, you MUST use Current Limited power supply for Laser Diodes, since they are very easy to damage. You cannot just connect them to battery like shown in this video, it will almost always fail.
@@atesone76 Yeah but you won't be having much fun if you're permanently blind, which you will be if you accidentally see a reflection from this thing. It won't kill you lol...

I had many laser diodes from DVD but they never emitted much light .why did that happened?please tell me
Zohaib fayaz he didnt use dvd laser. its fake
some diodes has poor beams, some are heating in seconds then dies.
Some are infrared and are dangerous

Do you know with what voltage the printer lasers are lit? I did a test, applying 3 volts as with DVD lasers but it didn't light up.

It's because you lit the infrared laser
