  • Agni Parthene (Αγνή Παρθένε) is a liturgical hymn composed by St. Nectarios of Aegina, drawn from the Theotokarion (Book of Hymns to the Mother of God).
Sometimes performed in Orthodox churches at the beginning of Vespers.
    Refrain: O Rejoice Bride unwedded.
O Virgin pure, immaculate, O Lady Theotokos. (Refrain)
O fleece bedewed with every grace. O Virgin Queen and Mother.(Refrain)
More radiant that the rays of the sun, and higher than the heavens. (Refrain)
O joy of virgin choruses, superior to the angels. (Refrain)
O brighter than the firmament and purer that the sun's light. (Refrain)
More holy than the multitude of all the heavenly armies. (Refrain)
O ever virgin Mary of all the world, the Lady.(Refrain)
O Bride all pure immaculate, O Lady Panagia. (Refrain)
O Mary Bride and Queen of all, the cause of our rejoicing. (Refrain)
    O noble Maiden, gracious Queen,
    supremely holy Mother. (Refrain)
    More honored than the Cherubim,
    beyond compare more glorious(Refrain)
Than the unbodied Seraphim, transcending the angelic Thrones. (Refrain)
Rejoice, the song of Cherubim rejoice,
    the hymn of angels
Rejoice the ode of Seraphim; the joy of the archangels.
Rejoice, O peace and happiness and cause of our rejoicing.
O sacred chamber of the Word, the flower of incorruption.
Rejoice, delightful Paradise of blessed life eternal.
Rejoice O sacred Tree of life and fount of immortality.
I supplicate you, Lady now, I fervently entreat you.
O Queen of all, I earnestly implore and seek your favor.
O gracious Maiden, spotless one, O Lady Panagia.
I call upon you ardently , O holy hallowed Temple.
O help me and deliver me protect me rom the enemy.
And make me an inheritor of blessed life eternal.

I am an ex-Baptist protestant. I used to be hostile towards veneration of the theotokos. After coming out of a very dark place I found orthodoxy and recognize it as the one true faith. I jumped straight from Baptist Protestantism two orthodox Christianity and I didn’t understand The orthodox position of the Theotokos, but I understood that it was the true faith and therefore I submitted my self to it out of faith. Now I not only understand and accept veneration of the Theotokos, but I do my best to honor and respect her position as the mother of God, for I remember the times which I dishonored it and am ashamed of this. I got baptized Holy Saturday this year, I will never leave The one true holy Catholic and apostolic orthodox church of Jesus Christ, and I cheerfully sing this song doing liturgy

gg0drk041 you've got that wrong. It was the opposite of what you're saying. The Orthodox Christian Church is the first church. The Roman seat left the Orthodox Church in 1054. That is when it took on the name Roman Catholic. It didn't exist as Roman Catholic until then. There were five seats in the Orthodoxy. Roman was just one of them. Read the church father's to see the truth. The Roman Catholics will make that claim, but it's false.

      My homecoming happened in 1996!
Rome excommunicated the rest of the Church when the brother Bishops refused the Papal claims and alterations they were making to the faith (Rome made themselves first schism taking the west with them)

Thank you for converting to the true faith, you remind me of C. S. Lewis. :) I am a bit of an Anglophile (well, up until recent decades) but seeing the modern Church of England is just depressing. There's a female bishop who actively tries to avoid referring to the Father with male pronouns - that's like a second-century heresy being openly espoused. All churches besides the true Church are falling to Satan and degeneracy.

Strange comment I thought all were aware of the Eastern Rite and its Priests who are married.I was a former Anglo-Catholic of the C of E and many of the Ordinariate are married and now form part of the Catholic Church. The term Uniates is also a little odd as many Orthodox seek protection under the umbrella of Rome from persecution in the Middle East. The Pope at this moment is in Armenia offering support to both Orthodox and Catholic churches who have suffered at the hands of Islamist terrorists and unfriendly governments.
Both the Orthodox and Catholic churches are seeking a form of reunification so that the Original state of one Christian body may be again realised. No Christian wishes to see another fall into apostasy or treat them as second class that is against the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ. If it were done then it was a grievous fault and grievously will those churchmen pay for it.
      Peace be with you Brother.

Will read I know that historically about the schism but we must try to heal old wounds and try to become if not united then more understanding of each position.

Quite right if union is not possible perhaps co-operation is and I understand the Orthodox position and why they consider that the truth is with them.
The Catholic church has tried to make good its historical position and amend some of the mistakes of the past but sometimes too much water has passed under the bridge. So it is a dream one day may be when this world passes we can sit down and heal the wounds of History.
      God Bless you Brother.

I used to not understand the extent of the Orthodox veneration for Mary, until I humbled myself before God in seeking understanding.
Jewish law had the mother, not the wife, seated at the side of the king. If the people wanted the ear of the king, they spoke to his mother, knowing that the king would bestow special honor and attention to the words of his mother. The king stood for his mother as she entered his chamber, not vice-versa. Who else would be our greatest intercessor with God?
Jesus is co-eternal with the Father. Because of his eternal place as the Son, it was always known that his descent to Earth would happen. Therefore, it was always known that Mary would have a special place throughout history.
The Jewish holy of holies within the tabernacle was only to be entered once per year by the high priest. He would only enter that area with heavy incense as to not clearly see the holiness, lest he be struck down. All of the Jews believed that any unworthy person who touches the Ark of the Covenant would fall dead. If Mary were to be the New Ark and Joseph was a pious Jew, he would obviously not enter into marital relations with her due to not coming into contact with the New Ark.
Eve chose to follow the lies of Satan and defy God. Mary chose to follow the Truth of Gabriel and allowed man's recommunion with God. She truly is the bridge between Heaven and Earth. She is the new Eve as Jesus was the new Adam.
As God the Father was without mother, Jesus the Son of God was without a father. This completes the mystery that we still cannot fully comprehend.
    O rejoice, bride unwedded!

Greetings ppl. Im Muslim but I wouldnt say im a very good one, I am learning more and more each day, anyway Orthodox christianity is talked about in the Quran. It talks about those Christians and jews who make ties (Zionists) then it says the people of Jesus peace be upon him son of the Virgin Mary peace be upon her. Anyway I was just looking up orthodox christianity and I find it EXTREMELY similar to Islam. It talks of the people of the book. I have found no consistency when asking Catholic priests questions in bibliography. I wish to learn out of respect. I asked 3 different priests and they gave me 3 different answers. Orthodoxy amazes me becaus it is the most consistent form of Christianity that I've come across. Anyway beautiful hymm. Peace be upon you all and may God bless you and keep you safe

      @i_like_having_showers_alon3974 10 ปีที่แล้ว +40

No offence brother, Orthodoxy and Islam are similar because Islam in a way is a product of Heretical Christian teachings (see Arianism), Saint John of Damascus wrote in the 9th century (from memory) about Christian Heresies and Muhammedans (Muslims) were listed as a heretical group following teachings of Arian.
Islam has taken a lot of Orthodox customs, look at the similarity between building of Mosques and Orthodox Church's, I went into a Mosque once and laughed that it was designed a shape of a cross just like our temples, the bowing down during prayer is ancient Christian customs which is still practiced in the some monastic communities.
I heard of many Islamic stories which were direct copies of Orthodox saints lives, example is the story where God makes 9 youths fall asleep in the cave and they wake up in the future to see a much different world with their faith becoming dominant.
Traditional Islamic custom of if a stranger comes to your house unexpected you are to welcome him with open arms and serve him for 3 days only, after the 3rd day you can kick him out, is an ancient Orthodox monastic custom of where Pilgrims used to show up to monasteries, monks were to serve them for 3 days and after the third day the pilgrim had to help around with the work.
The covering of women, look at the way Orthodox nuns dress, it was almost as Muslims were conquering Orthodox territories they saw the pious Orthodox monastic life and just copied it and encoded it into Islam as a normal standard.
I was heavily interested in Islam however for me was just not fulfilling, lets face it, its just Judaism with different sets of laws. Like Judaism you have the commandments of God to follow, Specific dietary requirements, and no connection to God except the holy book, God is otherwise not knowable, he is forever out of reach beyond heaven somewhere, all we are given is the prophets, the law and the book. Not to mention both faiths practice 'Eye for and Eye, Tooth for a tooth' teachings.
Orthodox Christianity (and only Orthodoxy) is different, it speaks much deeper to the human person than just having a religion, our God has come to us fully God and fully man, the unknowable God has become knowable, creation has become sanctified, our greatest enemy death has been destroyed, meaning of life is more than just going to heaven and not making God angry, life is beautiful, enemies are to be prayed for and to be loved, entire human existence has been transformed because Christ is God and not just a prophet.
Orthodox worldview is much much much more wider and meaningful, Orthodoxy is freeing, and it just makes more sense, lifes deepest questions are answered and joy reins, Man becomes transformed and fulfilled.
Islam might be A Way, Orthodoxy is The Life.
Open your heart and soul and try to taste Orthodoxy, you will see you will loose nothing but only gain something, you will gain Christ!
      God bless

Athiesm is a religion. A wise person admits they don't know if God is real, or a specific religion is the True Religion. But to say "I Believe God is false" requires just as much of an assumption and blind belief as being religious. You have no proof of that. You chose to believe it. Many people who simply are not convinced yet that God is real mistakenly call themselves atheists.

There is ONE Church and it is visible and in communion with the Church of heaven. If you actually read the Church Fathers and Early Christians you might understand. O Virgin Pure-Orthodox Byantine Chant
Agni Parthene (Αγνή Παρθένε) is a liturgical hymn composed by St. Nectarios of Aegina, drawn from the Theotokarion (Book of Hymns to the Mother of God).

Absolutely Sacred, beautiful, and sublime; what an incredible spiritual love for our Blessed Mother this is... I am a Catholic of the Roman Rite, with a deep and profound appreciation and love for all Venerable and Ancient Rites of the glorious One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. This beautiful music moves my soul with love for the Holy Virgin and her Son. O Christ our God, glory to You!

God heals through sacred objects and relics. I never denied He healed me, but it came while I venerated this icon. We also know in the history of the Church that God heals through icons. We have many miracle working icons.

I'm a former RC and convert to Orthodoxy, but quite frankly, this comment section (and it's not the only one on TH-cam, as I'l sure you know) makes me feel ashamed.
Rather than praying for unity, orthodox in this comment section display an animosity that is almost as bad as that of New Atheists. And let's not get started about the Orthodox nationalists (etno-phyletism) roaming around here. I'm glad my search towards Orthodoxy was done in a multi-etnic community, and not on TH-cam, because this attitude will not bring anyone to Orthodoxy.
Yes, it's a beautiful thing that we still celebrate the same liturgy as 17 centuries ago, and I feel sorry for a lot of Catholics who have no choice but to attend the Novus Ordo Mass. But heed what Christ said about the Pharisees, how they went around pointing tradition out to people. Tradition is one thing, but the Pharisees suffered a severe judgement. Tradition was apparently not their salvation.

Amen from me, too! Remember that there are many, many communities and liturgies in the One Holy Catholic Orthodox and Apostolic Church. God has created us with many cultures and styles and modes of expression. Let us celebrate that!

Unity is a heresy , brothers dont you understand ? Ecumenism is a great heresy. How can you unite all religions they just don't add up ! Here is some quotes from an Romanian
elder ... 1. The Orthodox Church is and must remain holy. There exists not one thing that can be accomplished without the power of the Holy Spirit. Today the spirit of the world penetrates everywhere, even in the life of the Church, in parishes and monasteries. With the help of the spiritual father, man is called to become holy through Christ who died and rose from the dead in order to deify human nature and to lift it up to heaven to the throne of the Holy Trinity.
      2. The monastery ought to be far from the spirit of worldliness. According to St. Maximus the Confessor, a monk must constantly renounce the world and he will gain heavenly treasures.
      3. Monasticism resembles martyrdom. Most saints mentioned in the Church ‘calendar are martyrs, and are followed by the monastics.
      4. The monks have been entrusted with the liturgical treasure of the Church. A monk is called to maintain lit the lamp of liturgical life. First of all, he must attend all the daily liturgical services from his monastery.
      5. The abbot has to be the spiritual father of the monastic community.
      6. In his ministry, the Bishop is called to show firmness in defending the true faith before the heterodox and to promote the purity of life. The lives of St. John Chrysostom and St. Basil the Great ought to be eloquent examples to every bishop. The clergy and the faithful’ confidence in their hierarch is maintain when he remains steadfast in defending the Christian truth and in preserving the purity of life.
      7. Gluttony, immorality and the love of money enslaves our world today.
Today, many sins are enacted by the so-called “human rights”. But according to the Christian teaching, man has only duties: towards God, his neighbor and God’ creation

+Bugs Broly If you have an orthodox church in your City you can go there and ask how it works. But the most important Point is just to love God with your Soul and Heart. God is love and love is the connection to God.
