Rejoice, rejoice, O Bethany! On this day God came to thee, And in Him the dead are made alive, As it is right for He is the Life. When Martha went to receive Him, Grieving loudly with bitter tears, She poured out the sorrow of her heart to Him With great sadness, wailing her lament. She at once cried out unto Him: "My most compassionate Lord, my Lord, At the great loss of my brother Lazarus My heart is broken, help me." Jesus said to her, "Cease your weeping, Cease your grieving and sad lament; For your brother, My most beloved friend, Lazarus, Very soon will live again." Then He, the faithful Redeemer, Made His way unto the tomb, Where he cried unto him who was buried four days, Calling him forth, saying "Lazarus, arise." Come with haste, ye two sisters, And behold a wondrous thing, For your brother from the tomb has returned to life. To the beloved Redeemer now give thanks. To Thee, O Lord of creation, We kneel down in reverence profound, For all we who are dead in sin, In Thee, O Jesus, are made alive.

The Beauty of Byzantine Chant truly tells a story and Glorifies God. I am Roman Catholic and also experience the Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in the Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, which I have been to a total of 6 Times.
Pray God, you've come to the understanding that both the Roman and Eastern Churches are part and parcel, whole and entire, of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, outside of which there is neither salvation nor the remission of sins (Holy Gospel of St. John 4:22).
Eastern Catholic Church came to be after massive war crimes against the Orthodox Church in 12/13th centuries, as Rome's attempt to replace the Orthodox Church. Monks were killed, People were killed, Orthodox patriarchs of Constantinople, Antioch , Jerusalem and Cypress were killed and driven away from their sees. Muslims were actually the liberators after the crusaders. We Orthodox don't like even to hear anything about Eastern Catholic (Byzantine Rite Catholic Church) ! Just to let you know, don't even mention damned imitators in front of the Orthodox Christians. There is one faith, one hope, and one baptism One God and Father of all There is one church, one body, one life in the Spirit Now given so freely to all And He gave to Simon Peter And to all the twelve The keys of the Kingdom So darkness shall never prevail But some of the shepherds Have pastured themselves on their sheep So He has come out against them And scattered His people of faith
Such a powerful and contemplative piece. A blessing in these times. Very Hard times are coming for followers of Christ but Jesus will guide us on the right path even if it means the end of this temporal life.
That is really the sad thing about your religion... you focus on the life AFTER this life... the only one you are guaranteed. Your wish for the vague promise of something after you die.. leads you to focus there... which means that you take this life here for granted... a place to wipe your feet, so to speak... so so sad... really.

When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. We need to manifest the kingdom
Matthew 6:7 is the seventh verse of the sixth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament and is part of the Sermon on the Mount. This verse continues the discussion on the proper procedure for praying. In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads: But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. He gives the example of what is now called the Lord's prayer, but he abjures you from reciting repetitive prayer.. he wants heartfelt prayer...not rote repetition...

@@firasb-ck1dj I know, but it has the 'feel' of the minor scale. I have no idea about the intricacies of the modes etc that chantsong is done in.. that was my 'layman's' explanation for it... (hmm.. wonder why this wasn't in my notifications... I would have replied earlier...sorry about that!!)
@@alahatzaifat1872 In the eastern scales system, each scale is consisted of two parts , the root and branch (that's what we call it in Arabic) and the name of the scale is named according to the name of the root (the last note of the musical piece must be first note of the root and we call it the base note). for example if your base note in this hymn is G then its root is : G A(b) B C (we call it Hijaz scale) its branch is : C D E(b) F (we call it Minor scale or Nahawand scale) and that's why you felt the presence of the minor scale because the minor scale is the secondary part of the whole scale. but since its root is Hijaz then, the whole scale is Hijaz

@@alahatzaifat1872 Byzantine ,Islamic, Arabian, Jewish, Indian, Persian music and etc... they all use this scale system. I don't know about old Roman scale system but if it is close to the Byzantine music then it uses the same system.
The Orthodox church seems to be one of the few denominations that is able to convey the idea that God is actually outside time and space and that our attempts to understand Him are, as St Paul writes, 'seen through a glass darkly.'
"Turn your eyes towards YHWH all ye peoples" -anon "Lift up your heads, all ye gates, and let the LORD of glory enter therein!" -either Isaiah or Jeremiah.
Henry Holly it was written in the late 1800s by Metropolitan Athanasius Atallah of Homs Syria. Arabic Christians love this hymn(it is originally sung in Arabic)
Hello! I totally agree with you! God is in the soul of every man, and the church is the union of the faithful and dedicated people with souls of the faith! This language does not matter! The performances are wonderful, true hymns sang the glory of God and our faith!
@geokonn Personally, I think it is better to chant hymns in the language of the people- so everyone can understand them. Otherwise, it is meaningless to them. I am grateful that there is Byzantine chant translated into my language so I can understand the theology. This is for the Glory of God, and for the conversion of hearts- not for your own personal sense of aesthetics. Think about it.
Here is the U.S. the Antiochian Orthodox Churches use English and mix in Arabic, Greek and Slavic at times as well. Indeed we use the primary language of the people so they hear the Gospel.
Do you know where I could possibly buy this song? I absolutely love the Boston Byzantine choir, and I've been searching all over the internet for this song. I have one of their CDs "First Fruits" so I was just wondering, which CD is this from? Do you know where I could buy it?
I listened to this song a lot as my father lie dying before me. Can anyone give me some clues as to when and where this chant was originally inspired? I personally thank you.

One God and Father of all
There is one church, one body, one life in the Spirit
Now given so freely to all
And He gave to Simon Peter
And to all the twelve
The keys of the Kingdom
So darkness shall never prevail
But some of the shepherds
Have pastured themselves on their sheep
So He has come out against them
And scattered His people of faith
what a beautiful Orthodox Hymn!!! superbly sung!!! thank you for sharing with the world this gem!!!!
Your wish for the vague promise of something after you die.. leads you to focus there... which means that you take this life here for granted... a place to wipe your feet, so to speak... so so sad... really.
Absolutely beautiful
I just came home from palm sunday and I can't stop singing this beautiful hymn
Great songs! I am surprised that the Ethiopian Orthodox Church has no presence on TH-cam! They are a SUPER ancient Church!
Ethiopian Orthodox is on TH-cam. Just go to the search icon and type it in.
My soul finds rest in God alone: My salvation comes from Him. thanks my sweet vagos for the chance to know orthodoxy..................may god bless you...
You Orthodox sing so beautifully....like no-one else on earth.
You definitely must not have heard Catholic music lol I find it most beautiful.
We just sang this in church today, I can't stop listening to it!
I believe these are hymns sung on Lazarus Saturday the day before Palm Sunday, a week and a day before Easter in the Eastern Catholic and Orthodox churches. I am glad you like it, me too.
This is so beautiful. I could sing this song all day praising the lord
The beauty of Greek byzantine music...it transcends all languages. This was perfect! :)
Rejoice, rejoice, O Bethany! On this day God came to thee, God came to thee; and in Him the dead are made alive, as is right for He is the Life! He is the Life! He is the Life! And in Him the dead are made alive, as is right for He is the Life!
When Martha went to receive Him, grieving loudly with bitter tears, bitter tears, she poured out the sorrow of her heart to Him, with great sadness, wailing her lament. Wailing her lament, wailing her lament. She poured out the sorrow of her heart to Him, with great sadness, wailing her lament.
She at once cried out unto Him, “My most compassionate Lord! My Lord! At the great loss of my brother Lazarus my heart is broken, help me! Help me! Help me! At the great loss of my brother Lazarus my heart is broken, help me!
Jesus said to her, “Cease thy weeping, cease thy grieving and sad lament, sad lament; for thy brother, My most beloved friend Lazarus, very soon will live again! He will live again! He will live again! For thy brother, My most beloved friend Lazarus, very soon will live again!”
Then He, the faithful Redeemer, made His way unto the tomb, unto the tomb, where He cried unto him who was buried four days, calling him forth, saying, “Lazarus, arise! Lazarus, arise! Lazarus, arise!” Where He cried unto him who was buried four days, calling him forth, saying, “Lazarus, arise!
Come with haste, ye two sisters, and behold a wondrous thing, wondrous thing, for thy brother from the tomb has returned to life. To the beloved Redeemer now give thanks! Now give thanks! Now give thanks! For thy brother from the tomb has returned to life. To the beloved Redeemer now give thanks!
To Thee, O Lord of creation, we kneel down in reverence profound, reverence profound; for all we who are dead in sin; in Thee, O Jesus, are made alive! We are made alive! We are made alive! For all we who are dead in sin; in Thee, O Jesus, are made alive!
Rejoice, rejoice, O Bethany! On this day God came to thee, God came to thee; and in Him the dead are made alive, as is right for He is the Life! He is the Life! He is the Life! And in Him the dead are made alive, as is right for He is the Life!
A most beautiful chant, and I am most greatfull that it was translated into english, though the Byzantine way may be the true chant I still think its important that language shouldnt Barr anyone the voice and teachings, chants and hymns of our lord.
as soon as i heard the first word chills came down my spine. God bless you all
БРАВО ....УНИКАТНО...ПРЕИЗОБИЛНО СО БЛАГОДАТ ГИ НАПОИ..НАШИВЕ ДУШИ ...ПО 100 ПАТИ ЈА СЛУШАМ.....

Beautiful.
HAIL MOSLEY, HAIL OUR PEOPLE, HAIL THE KING OF KINGS, HIS HOLINESS, OUR FATHER JESUS CHRIST, HAIL VICTORY
You need a new PFP buddy. You're a christian
This is incredibly beautiful! If you sing it, the truth of its words really sink into your heart - Wow!
May the Churches of Peter, Andrew, and Mark share in communion. For only our Churches profess the faith.
The path to perfection comes through patience, persistence, care, and attention. St. Nectarios of Aegina
PRAISES TO GOD
BEYOND BEAUTIFUL 🙌☁️🙌🙏🏻
Thisis so beautiful it gives me chills to listen to it and makes me weep at the same time. I love it!
let us pray to all our Christian brothers and sisters being slaughtered in the middle east just because they're Christian. let us pray to the ill, disabled and people who are displaced. let us pray to our glorious lord Jesus Christ and all branches of Christianity.
Diamondguy 1 Lets us also keep in mind Bishop Boulos who has been kidnapped for 5 years now on easter day
Let us pray for greater understanding between people of allfaith and of none and humbly ask for peace and blessing from Almighty God, the blessongs and peace which the world cannot give Amen. Alhamdulillah
Thanks be to God
In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads:
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions,
as the heathen do: for they think that they
shall be heard for their much speaking.
He gives the example of what is now called the Lord's prayer, but he abjures you from reciting repetitive prayer.. he wants heartfelt prayer...not rote repetition...
Very beautiful and full of truth. Lord have mercy!
Blessed Feast day to all bearing the name of St. Lazarus!

OH!! MY!! I love the minor scale in this piece... goosebumps up and down the spine!! LOVE THAT! The power of the human voice affecting human emotions!! Awesome!! One of my fav pieces of music/chant I think I have heard so far... and mostly due to the scale/mode of the song.
Thanks vagos2006 for posting this...!! Euxaristo!! Namaste!
This is not exactly minor scale
@@firasb-ck1dj I know, but it has the 'feel' of the minor scale. I have no idea about the intricacies of the modes etc that chantsong is done in.. that was my 'layman's' explanation for it... (hmm.. wonder why this wasn't in my notifications... I would have replied earlier...sorry about that!!)
@@alahatzaifat1872
In the eastern scales system, each scale is consisted of two parts , the root and branch (that's what we call it in Arabic) and the name of the scale is named according to the name of the root (the last note of the musical piece must be first note of the root and we call it the base note). for example if your base note in this hymn is G then its root is :
G A(b) B C (we call it Hijaz scale)
its branch is : C D E(b) F (we call it Minor scale or Nahawand scale) and that's why you felt the presence of the minor scale because the minor scale is the secondary part of the whole scale.
but since its root is Hijaz then, the whole scale is Hijaz
@@firasb-ck1dj thank you very much for the explanation... I guess this is another field of study for me... hehehe.. always love learning... and it helps if you are learning about things you enjoy, as I do with 'sacred' musics... t least I have a place to start from.. are the byzantine, old roman, and muslim nasheeds built on these same scales?? Or are they different..?? I guess I will find out when I start researching... hehehe Thanks again!!
@@alahatzaifat1872
Byzantine ,Islamic, Arabian, Jewish, Indian, Persian music and etc... they all use this scale system. I don't know about old Roman scale system but if it is close to the Byzantine music then it uses the same system.
Unreal! I love it
Beautiful setting for a beautiful event. So touching. Thank you
Lazarus is risen!
The Orthodox church seems to be one of the few denominations that is able to convey the idea that God is actually outside time and space and that our attempts to understand Him are, as St Paul writes, 'seen through a glass darkly.'
"Turn your eyes towards YHWH all ye peoples" -anon "Lift up your heads, all ye gates, and let the LORD of glory enter therein!" -either Isaiah or Jeremiah.
ya gotta prove he exists... first.... and so far, not one of you has been able to provide any convincing evidence that any gods exist....
When was “Rejoice oh Bethany” first sung is it ancient? I love that song its very eery and beautiful.
Henry Holly it was written in the late 1800s by Metropolitan Athanasius Atallah of Homs Syria. Arabic Christians love this hymn(it is originally sung in Arabic)
I think you can search Ifrahi ya Bayt Aniya to find the Arabic version. Fairuz sings a beautiful one
Hello!
I totally agree with you!
God is in the soul of every man, and the church is the union of the faithful and dedicated people with souls of the faith!
This language does not matter!
The performances are wonderful, true hymns sang the glory of God and our faith!
Can't Get Enough of It :D (Y) ... Thanks
How did 20 people dislike this??
Maybe they hate that it is english or something .. i dont know why they would
There are a lot of atheist trolls on TH-cam.
Greek Glory he is Alive holy oil holy water. Holy icons Amen😊
very nice
Absolutely awesome
Merry Christmas ☦️☦️☦️
@geokonn Personally, I think it is better to chant hymns in the language of the people- so everyone can understand them. Otherwise, it is meaningless to them. I am grateful that there is Byzantine chant translated into my language so I can understand the theology. This is for the Glory of God, and for the conversion of hearts- not for your own personal sense of aesthetics. Think about it.
seachelle76 This, so much!

Here is the U.S. the Antiochian Orthodox Churches use English and mix in Arabic, Greek and Slavic at times as well. Indeed we use the primary language of the people so they hear the Gospel.
ya daz right this is prolly one of the bestttest songs evaaaaa
I might not agree with the Doctrine but the music is AMAZING!!!!
What’s not to agree with? It’s the “doctrine” of the apostles
@@Orthodogemost people truly believe the billybob Baptist preacher unfortunately
Do you know where I could possibly buy this song? I absolutely love the Boston Byzantine choir, and I've been searching all over the internet for this song. I have one of their CDs "First Fruits" so I was just wondering, which CD is this from? Do you know where I could buy it?
beautiful
I listened to this song a lot as my father lie dying before me. Can anyone give me some clues as to when and where this chant was originally inspired? I personally thank you.
This is usually chanted on Holy Saturday for Saint Lazarus. If you listen to the words it's about Saint Lazarus about his death and Jesus raising him up after 4 days dead. God bless my friend and stay safe.
Who's here for Lazarus Saturday 2021?
thank you! XB! BB!
