James I want to thank you I was in a self defense shooting this past august (in Louisiana) and your videos on tactics, mindset, and preparation allowed me to come out on top with not a night spent in jail and no charges filed after the investigation I have since been cleared of all wrong doing
Excellent. I'm sorry you found yourself in that situation but I'm glad someone actually took something useful from my content and applied it in real life to protect themselves.
I'm just pulling this out of my ass but the reliability problems with the STG are mostly likely due to them being 80 years old at this point and shot to hell, you would be hard pressed finding a pre ban machine gun that still runs flawlessly with original parts, and parts for the STG are not exactly something you can find in the shelves of your average gun store.
It's certainly that way with the Luger. They're actually quite reliable when your gun and magazine springs are not a 100 years old. European 9mm is also slightly hotter than American, which is another reason why Parabellums are more highly regarded here. Also, a lot of countries' militaries used them. Here in Finland, they were in service into the 90s.
The Hi Point C9 was my first semi-auto, and it's a great gun for the price. The people at Hi Point are awesome, and their customer service is top-notch. I had a few issues with my old used $90 toolbox gun, so I sent it back to Hi Point to see what they could do. They replaced my clapped out c9 with a brand new c9 and included 2 new magazines. They also transferred the serial number, so it was the same. When I called to thank them for the great service, the lady I was speaking to was surprised and a little shocked that I was a happy customer calling. She said that I was the first person who called only to say thank you.
Not trying to be that guy but I have a few higher end guns, and I can vouch that mechanically the hi point is every bit as reliable as any other gun. I don’t own one but my cousin does, and we shoot the hell out of it every time we hit the range, and I know for a fact that it’s never been cleaned. The ONLY thing I find unappealing is the weight distribution I guess? I just know it feels like it has more recoil and it takes me a little longer to get back to the paper. But who knows? That little issue could be remedied with more practice and muscle memory development… and yes I’ve also heard good things about their customer service!
@angeldesigns1385 It's heavy and very ugly, but that's ok as long as it works. I use it as a toolbox gun. It's nice having a gun that I don't worry about scratching or caring about the resale value.

I feel mildly famous over the Yeet Canon naming kerfuffle. I actually won the naming contest (and got a 10mm carbine as a prize). I could have waited for the Yeet Canon as a prize. For a lot of reasons glad I did not. If you remember Yeet Canon was not one of the official names to be voted on. My submission won (CTAC-9) but the internet clamored for Yeet Canon. So they declared my submission as the winner awarded me a prize and then named it Yeet Canon. The fact I feel mildly famous over this really says a lot about my life. 😂
In all fairness...if I ever would own a hi point.....the selling point would be having "yeet cannon" engraved on the slide.... No other reason to own one...
The FPC was a big improvement on the Kel-Tec sub 2000, and I say that as a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 owner who upgraded with MCARBO parts. To do it over, I would buy the side folding FPC and get a magazine matching S&W M&P. Agree with everything else, the Bond in particular. 🙄 Their newer, lighter, and cheaper version is much better.
Yeah.... pick up and fire an FPC and a KelTech sub 2000 back to back... other than folding up, there really isn't any copying.... the S&W is much superior. It isn't perfect, but it being on this list is kind of silly. . .. it is also on Honest outlaws top ten guns of the year list. ...... certainly not the end of the world to have differing opinions though. Cheers. .
I'm just pulling this out of my posterior, but if I was independently wealthy I could see getting the PSA STG44 as a reproduction for the arms museum I would have. An STG44 that isn't a NFA item.
I'd love for PSA to manufacture an M3A1 "grease gun" (with a 16" barrel for "legality"), a Sterling pistol, or an UZI pistol. If they could make them for under $500, they would sell like Monsters in a middle school. Update: I don’t think that the M3A1 could be sold as a “pistol” even if you welded or removed the stock because the magazine/well would be considered (by the BATFE) as a “vertical fore grip”. Update 2: Also . . . A FP-45 Liberator.
M3 WOULD BE THE SHIT!!! THAT'S THE FIRST THING I THOUGHT OF WHEN HE MENTIONED THAT NAZI P.O.S.....SAME AS AN AK, *****WHY***** WOULD ANYBODY WANY AN ******ENEMY****** WEAPON!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I don't think a 16" barrel on a grease gun would look right. Maybe giving it a fake suppressor would look better. Keeping the 8" barrel, fixing the stock in the closed position, and calling it a pistol would also be an option... 🤔
The boring guns that people hate are popular for the same reason that the catchy songs that people hate are popular. A Glock, or a base AR/AK might be as exciting as any song on the America’s Top 100 list, but if you want a song or a gun that’s just going to work, go with what’s popular.
I must admit I want the PSA STG-44 just because of nostalgia. Love the looks of older guns and this one looks just right. Hopefully we get it first quarter 2024

Totally disagree with s&w and Keltec. Keltec has some cool ideas but poor QC. Its great to see a more reputable gun company take their ideas, improve them, and make them more reliable.
The S&W is pretty solid, from what I've heard from the reviewers I trust. It's Kel-tec's good ideas with a bit more quality applied. And it works well.
Yes. And a company that actually has reasonable distribution in gun shops, unlike KT. Literally what Ruger did with the LCP, in turn transforming the ccw market. I agree that Kelgren is a brilliantly innovative designer, but if KT were the only commercial channel for accessing his good ideas, we would all miss out.
@@vipe650r…. sW is American made, it’s reliable and durable (see Honest Outlaw) and it folds with optics on it and it holds two spare mags….and did I saw American made?
My dad bought the Cyclops due to his pure infatuation with 4570. His first 2 shots drew blood on his hand (dude is 6'5 400+ lbs so maybe gripping issues at first). I gave it a few tries the next day and honestly didn't have too many issues. Not practical at all but definitely a shot to be had lol.
Had two MP44s, one mag and 60 rds back in Baghdad end of 03'. Guns worked without issue, you can see the short comings of the design after using other guns. Lot of them would have been addressed if the Germans were able to developed further. Also we had a MP43i in 5th SFGA back in the 80-90s. Never got to shoot that one. Do know about another half dozen found in Iraq around that time.
The “preponderance of evidence” suggests that we are tired of boring ‘Tupperware’ guns, and want something unique and different. Im all in for it! (See what i did there @JamesReeves, lawyer terminology . . .)
The STG is definitely not going to be anyone's go to defensive weapon, but sometimes guns can just be fun. Also, I know quite a few WWII reenactors who are thrilled to be able to get their hands on an STG that won't cost them 50k+. I'm hoping it's a faithful enough copy that it will be useful in that role
I am really suprized how poor Americans are? Really is it deal braker if the gun costs maybe 500 dollars more? In EU and in Finland i think 500 here and there and i can manage. Hell Finland is maybe the poorest northen European country. I make just the average money here at working what is not alot. Guns are expensive here.
@@Resident-cb3yz It's not a case of Americans being "poor", it's that there's a significant portion of American gun owners who consider utility to be the *only* thing that matters. To them, if you can get a perfectly good AR-15 for something like $750, then paying $2k for a rifle that does the exact same thing is at best silly, and at worst downright offensive.
@@dubjubs I think he was talking about people not wanting to pay "maybe 500 dollars more" than for other comparable guns to get the repro, not saying that original StG 44s cost $500.
working in a local gun shop, I saw 4 PMR-30’s come in with FTF/FTE issues in 2023. I chose the M&P and so far the only issues are the typical break-in hangups. As for the Yeet Cannon, well, it is a brick, but it does shoot, regarding the rifles, no interest on my part.
Agreed, as a C9 owner the Yeet Cannon was a huge disappointment. Been following its development thru this channel (edit: shit i thought this was TFBTV but in any case James was always the one reporting from Hi Point HQ) and expected them to nail it after what feels like 5 years. Immediate disappointment the first time I handled it and saw how many issues even review copies were having. Poor reliability, which was presumably sacrificed just for 2 additional rounds in the new mags. Speaking of which, they hang up and are way more difficult to insert than they need to be. Also, who thought the new grip safety was necessary...? As trash as some people see C9s, I don't believe they ever had a bad rap when it comes to safety/unintentional discharges. The whole thing rubbed me the wrong way. Its water under the bridge at this point but I remember when they tried to weasel themselves out the whole Boaty McBoatface situation - like damn, you make OEM $100 bill grips for your ghetto blaster 9mm, this is nothing. Props to them for actually going with it in the end... but, too bad the product actually kinda sucks after such a long wait. I'm not sure if it's already improved, I hope it is, but yeah, what a letdown.
Finally someone has the same hi point experience that I have. I am not sure where the reliability pedigree came from , because the original ones I ran barely fed ammo.
I've never seen one in person that did anything except FTF or FTE every other round or more. Literally, never. People online tend to have decent luck with them, but they've been nothing but dumpsters for me. Having said this, I did buy a Yeet Cannon G1 on Gunbroker that I keep in the safe back in the US for a Boog loadout.
The original version of the .45-70 Bond derringer had two (2) shorter barrels, shorter than the length of the cartridge. I talked to a strapping muscular young man with considerable firearms experience who had fired it.....once. Once was enough.
Smith and Ruger both copied Kel Tec’s P3AT and basically everyone copied the P11. Ruger copied the Walther P22 and simply sold it for a lot more money. A good idea is a good idea.
Walther really should have discontinued the P22. That gun has done nothing but tarnish their reputation for years now. I know so many old Fudds that think Walther is trash, with the only reason being that they bought a 250 dollar 22lr and found that it was hopelessly unreliable. Once Umarex bought Walther out, they turned that Arnsberg factory to producing airsoft quality bullshit. If you see a walther for sale and it doesn't have the Stag horn proof marking on the slide, then it made at the Arnsberg factory and it will not feature the legendary Walther quality. The Ulm factory (good guns) use a stag Antler mark. The Arnsberg factory (bad guns) use the three crowns inside a shield proof mark. The P22 is probably the shittiest Arnsberg firearm ever produced.
The reason the HMG and now PSA Stg 44 is so delayed is likely because they know there isn't a market for these beyond the initial gotta buy it folks. No collector is going to purchase an inauthentic gun using different mags, receiver, caliber. And potential buyers who might be interested in a "modernized" version are going to pass when they see the $2,000 plus price tag for a gun that doesn't do anything better than PSA's $400 ARs.
The FPC folds the opposite way than the Sub2000 does which is a big improvement in my opinion because it allows it to still fold when optics are mounted. Sub2000 usually can't fold when it has optics on it.
Gonna need some of those stickers at 1:17 James and I don't want to buy a conversion kit for a rifle I don't even have just to get one. But if I have to I will.
Man, they advertised their micro dagger in their Christmas day sale with a price like they were ready to go. I clicked the link to buy that bastard, still none in stock. I ain't holding my breath with their promise dates lol.
@@TonerLowwhy, so instead of being a little late with their promises on cool for-fun guns, PSA has to fold their doors and we never see a modern STG clone? Is your favorite flavor of popsicle lead paint chip?
We have learned over the years to pay extra and wait until the bugs have been worked out of new model guns before buying. This has saved us a lot of the hassle and stress of sending guns back for warranty service, which in some cases can be very lousy. We also check a lot of reviews before buying.
With the FPC carbine people say why? With the Smith FPC we tested why yesterday. My wife is a very good pistol shot, I mean, stupid good. She's lousy with a rifle. With her daily carry, a Hellcat with Apex trigger she can put five out of five in a three inch circle rapid off hand with the Hellcat, at 7 yards. At 20 yards she hits in the nines and eights, rapid fire. With the FPC and a 510C she can put five in one ragged hole at 7 yards and all in the three inch circle at 20 yards, rapid fire. Oh, and the FPC chronographs over 200 fps faster with the exact same ammo. That pushes 124 grain plus P 900 into .357 magnum range. Not to mention it's just plain fun versus her always asking 'did this pistol always kick that hard?' after each session at the range. The FPC soaks up the Plus P recoil nicely.
The most disappointing guns were the ones that didn’t get released. I was excited when tisas announced they were releasing a 5.7. So my guess is there will be a lot more empty promises in 2024!🎉
I actually got that S&TInc bullpup kit for the 12.25" barreled Draco. It took a lot of additional work and parts to get to a point where I'd say its reliable enough. That includes changing the base trigger on the Draco, specifically with that additional spring for assisting resets. There is so much going on at the bullpup trigger section, which I think uses AR-15 parts... but really should have used something like a pistol or 1911 trigger, one that has straight pull-back against a lever, instead of trying to arrest a pivoting motion, that is causing all kinds of friction against the trigger bar, which is way too flexible (it bends so fucking much), and that array has so much stuff, the Draco was struggling to reset reliably until I also installed an adjustable gas system and a lighter recoil spring. Imagine at one point I had to manually push the trigger from behind just to get it to reset. I love it. Its an abomination. Its just very much a DIY project beyond assembling the kit. Imagine at one point I had to manually push the trigger from behind just to get it to reset. Company says its not a rifle as configured... but might need to shave the kit's rear housing some to prove its not creating an additional surface (because it angles flush to the rear trunnion) to demonstrate the kit did not create/add a rear surface for shouldering. For range trips, its a fun toy. Blasted a couple of hogs with it too. However, for the guys that just love to dump hundreds of rounds at a time... heat will kill this thing. They need to address the accessory gas tube shroud because it just will not hold zero; easy enough for me to replace the now-defunct rear irons instead with a rail. Still, I haven't met an AK-bullpup kit this minimalist, slim, and lithe, either. If this thing was metal 3d-printed, it would address a lot of issues. Namely, that pistol grip up front, can't base that on an AR and print it from plastic, and then have to mill in a brass tap in order to receive the retaining bolt. Mine failed EARLY, and I resorted to using JB Weld to hold it together, in addition to cutting a third of the grip off and contouring with a file till reloads using 30rd magazines didn't require torquing the magazine out. I will say the kit would have done just fine had they shipped and encouraged 20rd mags. These days its my truck gun (stored in a backpack, ready to rock) that travels with me. In a nutshell: You'll be doing a lot of DIY gunsmithing to get a functional build, and I can only wish S&TInc the best to factor in these customer woes and create an even better, preferably aluminum and steel Gen2.
Ive seen so many people buying these hi points lately. All of them have been elderly first time buyers and it takes everything in me not to walk up to the counter and beg them to but slightly above the bare minimum price point to get something much better.
Certainly. Fixed income and shit economy is a factor for some though. Aside from that, a sizable percentage of the gun buying public treats a gun like we treat a fire extinguisher. It is a specific thing designed to be aimed at a specific problem for them, and they don't think about it the rest of the time. The original C9's can be caught on sale, but the YC9's are priced closer to the Taurus G2's
@@daveh4914can't agree with you more, my first pistol 25 years ago was a Jennings 9mm. Biggest POS I have ever owned or shot. I didn't know better back then, just saw an affordable pistol and bought it. I'd have been way better off with a Hi-point than a Jennings.
I brother bought a hi point almost 20 years ago as a joke paid $100. Never cleaned it and he always takes it when we go shooting and though we don't shoot it that much but usually sideways it's never had a problem that we are still surprised about. Would still never trust my life with it and never would he.
On the Smith/Keltec thing.... What is the one thing everyone says about Keltec??? Cool design, I wish it was higher quality. Smith and Wesson: "Hold my beer."
I mean doesn't every manufacturer go through the "That Kel-Tec, it's so hot right now phase." Ruger did it in the 00's, S&W in the 20's. In the 30's, we'll see Sig doing it.
I think Smith does make a 5.7 pistol, also a 5.7 carbine. Palmetto State Armory also makes a 5.7 Honest Outlaw shot a bunch of them on his you tube channel.
@@scottroder5516sorry, I should have been clearer-I own a Smith 5.7 pistol. I just wish there was an FPC to go with it. If Smith or anyone else makes one that takes the Smith magazines, I’m unaware of it.
My biggest disappointment in 2023 is the Beretta 80X Cheetah. What an over priced CHUNK! Too big to conceal and too expensive for the range. This is a $800 safe queen....IMHO
I think the Stg-44 would be great for those dude who are just waiting for their opportunity to be a walk-on extra for the upcoming remake of “Ilsa: She-Wolf of the SS”. How’s that for some copium?
Listen, I'm not a smart man. But...observation: Designs that are "good" seem to endure and are copied the world over (AK, AR, 1911, Striker fired pistols, etc). Maybe there's a reason the market isn't flooded with STG clones already.
Give us a Smith & Wesson rhino clone or maybe an original design that incorporates similar concepts. You can never go wrong with a 357 Magnum cartridge especially when you're taking stainless steel or a deep blueing and meeting it to some very fine woods. You appeal to the generation with money using your modernized cowboy gun but bring some innovation like the space age metals and a unique design to minimize the flip involved with the recoil throw an s and a w on the frame and you have got yourself a hit
I actually appreciate the S&W keltec clones. They improve on the designs, especially with the FPC and they seem much higher quality. They’re also far less ugly.
If the AK platform was relatively priced like it is today and not the 90s dumped on the market price, it would not nearly be as popular in that states as it is
I’m just pulling this out of my ass but maybe the fact that only a handful made it into the US that are legal to own and that production stopped close to a century ago is a contributing factor to their rarity? Not saying they’re “just as good” as a budget AR or even AK but a modern production gun that isn’t worn slap out will probably be good enough to make a fun toy. No one is buying an STG clone to have a fighting rifle, at least I hope not.
Not the most modern gun to pull out of my ass, but as a guy with a WWII collection I want one under 300,000 without NFA regulations. I pulled almost four grand out of my ass for the HK SP5 pistol, tax stamp, collapsing stock, and $80 each mags so I can Scream: "Yippee- Kia Motherfnker!" In an undershirt. If I can get the OG Assault Rifle in a rifle round like 300blk or 5.56 since GSG hasn't suported us with 22LR mags on my ATI GSG StG44 place holder. The gun still works but my plastic mags are pretty much toast. I'm under no illusions, StG44 is 80 year old design. If I wanted a Sig Spear in .277 I'd be chasing it. I want StG44 and don't care if it's 3K
STG-44 is really only useful (as compared to all the other choices) as either "I own a kewel rifle" or... "I own a kewel rifle." It's a safe queen and maybe a range toy. KelTec doesn't need copying. They do what they do, but we do not need two of them.
7:18 James, think back 20 years to the S&W Sigma. The Polymer frame striker fired pistol that looked like a cheap knock off of a Glock, remember that? The one that Glock sued and WON for patent infringement over. Do you remember why and how they won? In court and on the range prior to court, Glock attorneys swapped the slide assemblies between a Glock and Sigma and voila, they worked. It was a blatant copy. This isn’t the first time S&W has made copies to make a quick buck.
The problem for the public is that a major gun manufacturer like Smith & Wesson's primary concern and motivation has shifted to churning out rising dividends for the shareholders, this often detracts from what their main motivation SHOULD BE, namely delivering a fine firearm onto the market. Cutting costs results in rising (short-term) dividends, but it hollows out the product you put out.
I absolutely loved this video. Very amusing. And as someone who loves everything German, i really like how you tore the stg 44 a new asshole. I like opinionated people because I am one.
I'm just physically exerting this from my rectal cavity, but I feel the stg44 issues were primarily due to a bad magazine. Also the PSA stg44 has too many errors in terms of matching a WW2 counterpart.
I've bought a few Kel-Tec guns, mostly because I think doing a line of nose powder before designing a gun is an approach the community should encourage more of.
Welln yeah. The Stg is outdated. But the reason you see so few is so few were imported. The mosin is a whole lot of just barely a gun, yet they are everywhere. Don't get me wrong, i love the clunkers, but they are inferior in nearly every way to their peers, but look in a bedroom closet and the mosin is more likely than a mauser or an 03a3. Because they were more abundant, which made them both cheap and available. AKs flooded the market when the wall fell and kept getting imported, they used to be crazy cheap. Like $75 in 1993. Hard not to saturate the market with that going for them. But STG's were never imported in that kind of number, so they are very uncommon.
Considering my alternatives are paying $500 for a .22 LR rifle or $50K+ and a tax stamp, $2K for an STG-44 in 7.62x33mm sounds like a deal still. And considering original surplus K98k’s are north of $1K already, paying more than people like for a repro STG is the least of my worries.
You are the only reviewer of the Hi-Point YC9 that had issues. That leads me to belive you were causing issue. I have watched 30 plus reviews on that weapon including yours.
What did CTAC stand for?
What was CTAC supposed to mean?
The original 9mm was the C-9. So I kept the C and “TAC” was short for tactical.

Especially a derringer that weighs more than a fully loaded Glock 19.
@@Xpnential999999 damn that's heavy

The FPC was a big improvement on the Kel-Tec sub 2000, and I say that as a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 owner who upgraded with MCARBO parts. To do it over, I would buy the side folding FPC and get a magazine matching S&W M&P. Agree with everything else, the Bond in particular. 🙄 Their newer, lighter, and cheaper version is much better.
The FPC is alright, but the Response feels like a LEGO carbine.

I'm just pulling this out of my ass, but if I was independently wealthy the NFA wouldn't be an impediment.
I'd love for PSA to manufacture an M3A1 "grease gun" (with a 16" barrel for "legality"), a Sterling pistol, or an UZI pistol. If they could make them for under $500, they would sell like Monsters in a middle school.
Update:
I don’t think that the M3A1 could be sold as a “pistol” even if you welded or removed the stock because the magazine/well would be considered (by the BATFE) as a “vertical fore grip”.

Also . . . A FP-45 Liberator.

I don't think a 16" barrel on a grease gun would look right. Maybe giving it a fake suppressor would look better. Keeping the 8" barrel, fixing the stock in the closed position, and calling it a pistol would also be an option... 🤔
Honestly a short barrel M3 with no stock as a pistol wouldn't be so bad

The boring guns that people hate are popular for the same reason that the catchy songs that people hate are popular. A Glock, or a base AR/AK might be as exciting as any song on the America’s Top 100 list, but if you want a song or a gun that’s just going to work, go with what’s popular.

The HiPoint carbines are their best work.
Hope you had a great Christmas James. Just wanted to say thank you for giving us all this extra content.
Great video and very informative.
They just need to redo them to accept glock mags.
Finally someone has the same hi point experience that I have. I am not sure where the reliability pedigree came from , because the original ones I ran barely fed ammo.
The carbines I’ve shot worked good. The pistols not so much. Just my experience.
I had a pistol/carbine combo in .40 that worked flawlessly, even with ratshit ammo. Luck of the draw, I guess.
I got the 10 for lols and it malfunctioned on literally every round
I've never seen one in person that did anything except FTF or FTE every other round or more. Literally, never.
Especially if you can tweak a few _little_ complaints along the way.
Ironic because the Walther P22 was the only gun with a reputation for being less reliable than a Keltec at the time.
The SR22 is so much better than the P22.

Gaston Glock.. He Was for pistol what Kalashnikow was for rifles. R.I.P
Can you do worst guns of the decade?

The number 1 worst gun of 2023 should be any Glock released. Let's face it, Glock still hasn't innovated since its birth. Absolutely terrible!!
Well, if you're going by that criteria, Colt haven't done anything remotely innovative since the early '60s.

James, I can't take you seriously without short shorts
The problem for the public is that a major gun manufacturer like Smith & Wesson's primary concern and motivation has shifted to churning out rising dividends for the shareholders, this often detracts from what their main motivation SHOULD BE, namely delivering a fine firearm onto the market.
Cutting costs results in rising (short-term) dividends, but it hollows out the product you put out.

Yours was only one that showed constant issues. I am sure constantly jamming mag up, could have quite possibly attributed to some of issues.
