Even if Petko ever gets to a point where he is running out of ideas for "new content" I feel like anything he does in this room would fascinate anyone interested in the hobby. Just his everyday feeding, watering and rehousing is interesting to me. As well as anything he has learned and wants to share. Any of it is new and interesting to me.

We have a male who just had his last molt. He's always been a good looking spider and an eager eater. He's not the gentlest tarantula in our collection and he moves pretty quickly. Before his molt, he had the typical sandy coloration. After this molt, he looks like an entirely different animal. He is leggier and his coloration has changed - a reddish abdomen and black legs and head. Even more striking than before.

my first tarantula is a grammastola pulchra and i love her so much! incredibly gentle and has good feeding response. i haven't handled her often, but when i do, she's incredibly friendly, has never kicked hairs at me and of course has not bitten me lol. not even a threat posture, most she's done is bolt just a little from time to time. she was expensive though, at 150 dollars and worried me at first because she was in pre-molt when i bought her and didn't eat until after her first molt with me. gave me quite a scare as a new tarantula owner! i plan on getting a trinidad dwarf some day in the future along with other breeds, as they seem very easy and fun (for me at least) to take care of!

Top 5 N/W begginer friendly list in my opinion would be similar. Brachypelma hamorrii definitely, Martinique pink toe is awesome as long as they read up on not letting it get dry, and definitely agree with the GBB but just like the carabina versicolor needing moisture, it would be important for people new to things how the GBB needs it dry because I've read alot of stories of slings dying from being too damp where most slings are the opposite to that! I would have to say brachypelma albopilosum the curly hair tarantula because they are very affordable, very available, grow pretty quick compared to other brachypelma species (maybe because they prefer more moisture) get to be a decent size, great eaters, and pretty docile as well. And my last choice in league with your layout mentioning dwarf species would be Hapolopus sp Columbia large/small commonly known as the pumkin patch tarantula wich are also very affordable as slings, very commonly available, and while they are very quick when the want to be, I find them pretty laid back for how ferocious they eat for just little tarantulas. Even as a tiny sling 1 of mine was always out checking things out, and are only skidish if they are startled, or just/before a molt. But as a dwarf it has a huge personality, and the colors and pattern are amazing I think. Plus they sometimes have the gold patch most have shaped like a heart too! Do you happen to have the leetzie genus of the dwarf species you showed?

They're all so sweet! I'm currently researching all that I can, because I plan to have a tarantula once I'm done school and have a stable job and housing. I volunteer with a small local insect & arachnid zoo, and have done community outreach at my college with their resident tarantula, a chilean rose hair named Rosie. While rose hairs will always have a place in my heart because of her (she's the sweetest!) I'm very interested in the C. versicolor as well! I'm going to end up with a ludicrous amount of tarantulas someday, I can already tell!

I can't wait to watch my slings growth, heard they are slow growers but that's what makes it more exciting to see how it looks and what type of personality it gets. I don't plan on handling it very often (even if at all) but that's honestly not my main focus, I'm here to admire it like you do with your tarantulas :-) KEEP UP THE WORK THESE VIDEOS ARE AMAZING!!!!

I really want a Caribena versicolor as my first.

  • @MoMsUuH

I have two jumping spiders and I got P. Irminia for my first tarantula. Fortunately she is pretty shy, but ofc very fast if she wants to be. Right now she is about 3cm sling and seems to be pretty calm. Only when rehousing her I need more caution because she likes to run when poked, but luckily doesn't threat me at least for now. With watering and feeding she is a really good girl. P. Irminia can be a first tarantula, but the owner needs to do their research first. I have rehoused her twice and always done it in a cardboard box with some paper on the corners so it is easier for me to catch her if she bolts. Very beautiful species and I like arboreals so sometimes I can see her outside her nest. But usually they like to burrow and do a web tunnel on the corck bar so you don't see them that much.

Get her used to a small jumping spider first. Ease her into it. Then get a sling:)

    • @razormaw6374
      @razormaw6374 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@redneckrebel9260 Her phobia is getting better. I still can't have a pet but it's okay to have a few house spiders dotted around the house, I got one above my computer area, two in the kitchen and one in the bathroom and she's been doing okay with that. I keep telling her if we have one as a pet it wouldn't have freeroam of the house but still no i don't understand.

I definitely agree with you in handling/rehousing the p.irminia. If you’re not careful, they sometimes bolt out as soon as you open their enclosure (especially the slings). They can also jump which adds up to the difficulty. I remember mine once bolted out and jumped straight off the table.
Anyway, keep it up! I really appreciate your videos. I learned a lot from ever since I started watching from your channel.

I was so scared of spiders & tarantulas until my guy brought a paloma dwarf home from the deserty area by his work. But months of research has converted me into a exotic pet lover! Weve had the dwarf a few months anx just brought home an Avic metallica. I plan on adding more soon their all just so fascinating!!! Heres my top 5/ major wish list.
    1) lasiodora parahybana
    2) tiltocotl albipolosus
    3) avic metallica
    4) p. Metallica
    5) m. Balfouri
I dont include my paloma dwarf but he beats all of them bc hes the spider that pushed me to do research and learn as much as i have. I will always have a soft spot for my dude. I named my paloma dwarf xerxes, and my avic metallica is named Orion. :)

    5. B. Vagans - The best looking black and red tarantula in my opinion. They can be more skittish than other Brachypelmas.
    4. P. Cancerides - Quick growing species that changes from blue to golden brown. Probably have too much attitude for first timers.
    3. A. Geniculata - Feisty tarantulas that will never miss a meal. The white coloration on their legs is really cool.
    2. C. Versicolor - Beautiful tarantulas that change the way they look drastically as they grow. My favorite of the "Avicularia" tarantulas.
    1. C. Cyaneopubscens - Literally everything you could want. Tons of webbing, striking colors, and great eaters.

I haven't had the opportunity to house one of these beautiful spooders yet, but I do have a top 5 list based on what I've read and seen. :D
    1. Aphonopelma Hentzi (Very common where I live, females lifespan can reach 40 years, very very docile, pretty mix of browns.)
    2. Grammastola Pulchra (GORGEOUS velvet black color, one of the larger docile species.)
    3. Brachypelma Hamorii (Beautiful color and pattern, fairly long lived.)
    4. Brachypelma Albopilosum (FLUFF!)
    5. Monocentropus Balfouri (Old World but surprisingly calm, makes a lot of webs, can be housed communally, pretty blue and brown coloring.)

Tarantulas I have kept ranked from most beginner-friendly to beginner-intermediate:
    1. Grammostola pulchra
    2. Davus pentaloris
    3. Avicularia avicularia (all glory to the Hypnotoes!)
    4. Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens
    5. Acanthoscurria geniculata (just keep your fingers free of the enclosure)
Ones I haven't kept but would include as good-looking beginner options):
    • Brachypelma emilia
    • Aphonopelma chalcodes
    • Grammostola pulchripes
    • Cyriocosmus elegans
    • Homoeomma chilensis (formerly Euathlus sp. "red")
    • Caribena versicolor
While I love Psalmopoeus, I would consider them to be more of an intermediate genus due to their speed, defensive disposition, and more potent venom.

    5) Brachypelma Hamorii (Mexican Red Knee): Slow growers and can be expensive as mature females, but beautiful and a classic.
    4) Grammostola Rosea/Porteri (Chilean Rose Hair): Unpredictable in many ways, but another classic beauty must have.
    3) Avicularia Avicularia (Common Pink Toe): Cheaper and a little more docile than the Versicolor in my opinion, great intro to aboreal species.
    2) Chromatopelma Cyaneopubescens (Green Bottle Blue): Not the best to interact with, but great display specimen if you want to enjoy prolific web makers.
    1) Brachypelma Abolpilosum (Honduran Curly Hair): Long curly hairs give this T a unique look no others have plus in my opinion one of thee most docile I have ever own if you are brave enough to handle, but I don’t recommend often as everything with a mouth can bite plus you don’t know how your body responds to the venom although weak compared to others.
🕷I love the quality of your videos man. I just started watching and subscribed 🛎.

Re-watching this again today and I have more experience with my Ts. I've been in the hobby for about 6 months and have collected 13 Ts.
I did a lot of research when I was looking for my first tarantulas. I had a lot of recommendations for B. Albopilosum, I now have five of them and all of them like to hide! As in completely burrow. They are slings, I understand that this is normal while they are little, so I wait patiently for them to get larger, which for one of them, has happened really fast! By contrast, my two Gramostola Pulchra have never burrowed. They do like a hide, but they have not buried it. They are growing slowly, but at least I can always see them and when not in pre-molt, they eat pretty readily. I have one GBB sling, it has the coolest webbing and I can see it all of the time, it has not burrowed, and it is interesting to see how it stalks it's prey. My Chaco Golden Knee (Grammostola pulchripes) sling has burrowed and been unseen since the end of December. I keep hoping it is still alive, I check the container daily for any signs of life and to be sure the water dish is filled. I have one Pterinopelma sazimai (Brazilian Blue) and it loves to burrow under it's hide. It has come out when hungry but I rarely see it otherwise. My Brachypelma vagans likes it's hide but it has not completely covered it, so I can still see it pretty well. And my favorite has been my Caribena Versicolor. Being arboreal it has created the coolest web funnel at the top of the enclosure and I see it all the time. It has become more active as it has grown, which has been faster than I expected, and it has been interesting to watch it modify it's funnel as it has grown.

I am a complete arachnophobe but have been watching your channel for a while after a recommendation from TH-cam (how that happened I will never know!). I love your energy, knowledge and passion for your subject. I just want you to know that I just got so excited as I was trying to guess what your number 1 was and was right. So Thanks - I think 🕷
