What a stupidly beautiful mountain face. Like a giant dropped a cleaver into the ground from the stratosphere. On one side it's completely covered in vegetation, the other side is almost perfectly flat and vertical. How can you NOT imagine climbing this thing?

Enjoy the mountain and your young age, but don't risk your life for nothing. Don't push yourself to the limit. Stay healthy and enjoy life

I'm confused: he didn't do a first ascent in the video. Can someone explain what I'm missing?

No this video was just to show the prosses of bolting a line, but he's actually going to go for the send next year once it warms up a bit

@@soundsofnature1981 Ballsy to advertise such a beautiful line before you've had the chance to try to FA it ! Then again I doubt anyone would dare to try to steal the FA.

Well it is a first ascent once you open a new line and reach the top. What you are missing is the first free ascent... Of course we are used to the modern sports term of FA in sense of first free Ascent. But actually thats not the definition of FA. But no worries: Michi of course wants to free it asap

few persons doing ground up these days. you've got, what, in the US you have the valley and the black hills. both those areas you are not allowed to use motorized/electric drills, either. has to be done by hand. fun fun! then you also have elbstandstein in Germany and Adrspach in CZ. where else is the ground up ethic still going strong?

Not only Adršpach - these rules apply to all (or at least overwhelming majority) of Czech sandstone areas (Teplice, Ostaš, Hruboskalsko, Tisá, Ostrov...and many more).

Amazingly Beautiful. Still don't understand the whole ground up vs. Rap bolting thing. It's like the "Butter Battle Book" by Dr. Seuss. Either way, you've buttered some bread. Doesn't matter if it's on the bottom side or the top side. Same with bolts. Ground up, Top down, you've still placed bolts. Furthermore, hangdogging on a hook and drilling a bolt with a drill, while balsy, isn't actually climbing the route free. Might as well rap bolt if you are going to do that. Finally, I'm opposed to bolting all together. I think bolts are about egos and bringing climbs and crags down to our level; but much the same way as I'll get on a highway, I'll clip a bolt. But I don't want highways (or bolts) everywhere. Wish I could understand the German.
Edit: a word (also... I think our Children's Children are going to [correctly] judge us harshly for how much we littered the crags and mountains with bolts)
