    I was so tempted to make a skirt dropping joke when you make the cutouts for the ring to drop down, but awesome builds like this don't deserve such jokes.

    i'd put the center star on a cam with three+ pegs coming down threw the moving frame with some bearings fitted into the end of them. would make it much more stable, smother, and it would be rather easy to do.

    Love the table concept, but have seen it done by engineering students on another video. My other thought is that someone with your level of skill wouldn't call a countersink screw a pan head as you described in upgrade #4. Yes I'm that detail oriented.

    2:50 you need to work on your google-fu, my friend. it took me about three minutes to find #10 flat head screws for wood with the shank the same diameter as the crest of the thread, with multiple shank lengths

    it cannot be circular perfectly in both states, because Pi is an endless decimale. so to reach the same precision i guess you would have to calculate the smaller ring with more decimale figures of Pi than the big one so overall precision stays the same. 22/7-ths is for example only an approximation of Pi andn if your table willl be twice as big in the rotated form, so will be the imprecision of the number uu used for Pi...know what I mean? NASA has the same problem when sling-shooting a satellite with gravitational catapult: fpr moon u nedd far less decimale places of Pi than if u actually want to reach mars.

  • @silentferret1049
    @silentferret1049 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well there is a simple solution. if the to pieces are tapered like you said then taper the ring in the opposite. the ring would align all the pieces to the correct position and would make a very tight fit which you can fine tune to be perfect. All you have to do is get the center smaller top circular. The leafs although not perfectly round when fully extended into the larger. You can cut a slight angle to give a bit of an illusion of a round circle. Hard to pull off but worth the work.As far as the ring coming back up when it is in the full. A second lock point can be used for the lock. Always room to improve in later made versions.

      +1993semperfidelis I have quite a bit of discussion about the parts, where to acquire raw materials, thoughts on making them and assembly, etc. You can see an overview here: th-cam.com/video/ye46x9s1ut0/w-d-xo.html Thank you.

    The author does like to from scratch, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.

    It is my dream to build this table. The plans that you offer.... Do they have all these updates and are they very specific as to metal used and bolts and such

    • @ScottRumschlag
      @ScottRumschlag  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Richard Shaw Yes, plans are fully updated now. I include links to the components I ordered and do my best to describe general bolts/etc purchased locally.

    • @ScottRumschlag

      That would be up to you, most of the components are visible in the video so you should be able to predict fairly well if they're available.

    looking to do this project as a father in law/son in law project. It is January now, and looking to complete it for next year Christmas. Is this too ambitious? How long would it generally take to complete?

    • @ScottRumschlag
      @ScottRumschlag  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rick Macho I think a year should be plenty of time and then some. My personal time investment is about 600 hours at this point and this includes 3 full revisions (i.e. from scratch), many dead ends and a lot of thinking time. A moderately skilled woodworker could probably build the table from my plans on the weekends over the course of a summer. Thank you for the interest and feel free to send any other questions to: scott@mechanicallumber.com

    Do your plans include legs

    • @ScottRumschlag
      @ScottRumschlag  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Richard Shaw Yes, but just the basic legs shown here. Legs are fairly straightforward, as long as they support it it evenly and well many different designs should work.
