- Sims 5 isn't coming.. but the investor day for EA revealed even more dramatic sims news, including a new sims game, sims social hub, AI tools, and other changes to the sims 4 and the sims franchise. I review the latest news for sims- a franchise they supposedly already have plans for for the next 25 years.

Unfortunately the target audience for the sims is the investors not the players
that is part of it.. I also would say they are trying to attract an audience that is quite different than those active on socials. we'll see how it goes for them I guess
A lot of us are happy to not have to rebuy all of our packs again

@@DeZHDSocial I've had things break with or without mods, other people have things break without mods. For me, at present, I can use the game, but many packs do not work as intended. It does work just fine though if I just stick to building.
That "core technology update" caught my attention. I wonder if it would be an update to the core base game system? That would definitely be a huge task, if it's even possible.

@@misstressfoxtail05 I wonder if the plan is to take parts out of the spaghetti as they work on them. Say they did something big with Worlds, maybe the world code gets separated out of the spaghetti as part of that process, and maybe it gets easier to work with after that?

But does it surprise you at all? This game has been nothing but a cash grab for a few years now
I was so damn disappointed like a lot of people. I was hoping they would take all the backlash they received for the past 10 years about Sims 4 and put better improvements on Sims 5. I was hoping they would go back to the original timeline, add new townies and pick up the lore again. I was hoping for better gameplay from the ground up and no dropping age groups. I wanted cars again and maybe new transportation, weather in the base game, bits and pieces that were so loved by the other iterations that TS4 just couldn't match. This is all so very disappointing and is going to probably push me to full drop The Sims and embrace Paralives and Inzoi when they come out.
me too. I thought they were taking their time to get more feedback. rene always seemed a little strange but they said stuff like adding or having more to the core of the game like weather.. so I'm just kinda confused

Was also HOPEING the game was goung to get fixed from how it is now. But it seems the team wants to another direction. I am feeling sooo LOST lately as to what the Sims 4 team is doing anymore.

Also, in a way, I am kinda glad there isn't going to be a sims 5. Only for the fact with all the NEW competion how would they ever keep up? Especialy with New games like InZoi and Paralives.

This actually sold me on InZoi more than InZoi did. At least there core game has firm building blocks for where it wants to go. I still want Paralives so so much more. I am not gonna stop playing what I own, but I will continue to not buy any new packs
Could not have said it better. I have been playing Sims since 2004 and it is so frustrating that they keep taking steps backwards. I will be looking at other franchises once they launch.
They are updating the sink, to drain more.
Not interested in Live-service games, nor do I want a multiplayer Sims game. That saying "Escape from reality" is why I play games. I am not interested in depending on not only my internet service but also the game publisher's internet connection to be able to play the game. Or the publisher's willingness to keep maintaining the service when profits drop below their expectations.

I agree, I am not interested in the whole social network thing. I was looking forward to a new Sims game, not just adding to the old sims 4 stuff building on the same old platform.
3:39 i hate this! what’s the point in bloody playing the game this way? i remember rumours about being able to do this with building rooms in rene. i bloody hate this, like there’s so many people out there making stuff, working for hours and then people can just upload images and make stuff like what a waste of creative potential. when will people learn ai doesn’t make creativity ugh 😭 i’m so frustrated
i feel the exact same. restrictions can often still breed creativity!!! a good example is minecraft, and the builds created in that game by talented creators. this just makes me feel miserable thinking about the future of other beloved game titles :(
yup. I don't like it in inzoi and I don't like it here and I'm thinking of how it may impact cc creators
@@SimmerErin that too! like sure some will go and find the cc but so many won’t even bother because they can just make what they want in a second, generate a whole character in a second from what we were shown. i’m tired 😭 i want creators to be able to create and share with us without fear their work will be shoved into an ai model or entirely replaced by junk ai made
@@cryingwatercoloursI mean what generative AI can do is buggy at best. You can get highly mixed results from prompts and even with InZoi I often saw people fiddle with it for a bit before just going back to normal methods. I just don’t know how well it will actually work anyway.
@@TheDawnofVanlife this is true but those were youtubers who obviously want to see good results for their videos. i imagine many players, especially younger ones, would definitely just use it for the novelty of it, as it slowly improves from their prompts and imported images. ai does work pretty badly but i’ve seen some that are disturbingly close to the real thing, all the same cohesive style and fooling thousands on instagram. i have to assume they trained off a certain artist in particular, but if they can do it, make gen ai images look like real, good art, i don’t see why these giant gaming companies can’t. i see them improving it, and if they don’t the fact it’s there means it’ll be used somewhat. there could be billions playing, who know how to get good results idk i’m rambling it’s all just feeling very hopeless rn
Iv been playing Sims since it very first came out. All I hear is that the Sims is just not the Sims anymore. And as much as I love the simes I'm just losing interest in playing the game
I still enjoy it (I do have past sims games installed) but I'm not aligning with the direction they seem to want to go
Mine is so broken at this point that it's basically unplayable
Possible to remake the game with a new engine but it is a stupid idea to upgrade a broken game which issues are deep in the core. The Sims 5 would have been a cheaper and more profitable option to do and they could make a more impressive game where they can test their "live service" which is failing left and right yet they try to climb on this trainwreck.
The mobile and other variants sounds like they do want to focus on making bad quality stuff and milk more. In my opinion it's the time to disband EA altogether and someone with passion, competence and not greed in the mind should take over.

All of this news is overwhelming to comprehend. The Sims 4 era (the last ten years) has been a lot of talk and a lot of rumors with very little to show for it. TS4 has been around for 10 years. It has gotten better but, I played TS2 for an hour yesterday and had more fun than 20 hours in TS4. The townie AI in TS4 is the biggest downside for me. If they can fix that and slightly open up worlds/world editing, TS4's content, (build mode and gameplay packs) have been pretty good. I wonder what 10 more EPs for TS4 will make it look/feel like.
The townie AI and frankly the sims' personalities and autonomy are the downside for me i sims 4. I agree it's def improved in several ways and that bb is a good asset; I don't hate sims 4, but see the core have a big flaw that makes it harder to connect with
Yeah, that what I thought they might be doing in the other review that you made earlier. Updating "Core Technology" better not involve breaking the game for those already playing. Some people still have computers over 5+yrs, I'm upgrading mine next year, but if someone still has a perfectly viable PC that wont run the "upgrade" this will cause huge PR issues.
And what will this "upgrade" look like. Are they simply sticking with the current game engine and tweaking it or swapping to a completely different one - which in itself would be a huge headache.
Again, we will have to wait for a live broadcast, that someone at the Sims can explain to us what all this actually means.
it's really hard to say what it's going to mean, I agree clarity is needed. hopefully they do explain it with some details in Jan
my pc is 12 years old. the game runs. On low setttings, but it runs. i'm gonna be really mad if they screw over people like me.

I sat watching this video feeling my poor brain start to push out to the limits of my skull on the verge of explosion! What on earth are they on about? I hold up my hand as being that old fashioned gamer who likes to escape into the solo game experience so I'm not sure I like the sound of any of it. I do use the gallery but that and comments here is the extent of my activities with fellow players, and that suits me. Perhaps there's an element of desperation because, for the first time in over twenty years, they are faced with the prospect of real competition in the life simulator genre?
I am too, so that's my bias as well.
I don't think so to your last point. there are many clues this has been there plan and in the works for a long while, before any competitors were even revealed. and it is a trend many game are going

I appreciate getting all this information! I do wonder what these changes will look like. Do people really crave a platform specifically for the Sims? What technology updates can they really provide for The Sims 4? The game seems unfixable at this point, built on a house of cards code wise, but who knows?

None of this makes any sense and I have no idea how they are going to pull this off. They would have to remake the sims4 into an entirely different game and I don’t see how that is possible since our plants are dirt piles most of the time, they can’t even seem to fix bugs that go back to 2018. This sounds like a lot of wishful thinking and buzzwords to keep investors happy

Their plans are technically unfeasible, most likely impossible. With all due respect for the minor bug fixes they are doing lately, this sounds like upgrading the propeller plane to a jet plane mid-flight. Sorry, I am pretty sure they are trying to pull a fast one on shareholders.

i'm so done with the sims now because of all of this. i almost want to uninstall the game completely, i hate this so much. i hate that they're basically turning it into roblox. assuming the sims hub lets people put cc on the marketplace, i genuinely hope that a majority of cc creators ignore the sims hub thing so that it flops completely and embarrasses EA. screw all of this, i'm so upset and heartbroken

This feels like pretty much the opposite of what I want them to be focusing on, for the sake of making money in the short term rather than maintaining and building the fan base they’ve had for two decades

"Let me know what you think about all this craziness in the comments" ....Erin, I couldn't have described it any better than you did. To me it sounds like they're trying to 1. Make a lot of money (no big surprise there) and 2. Appeal to new/modern/future audiences, and personally I don't feel included in that group. What they're doing seems to be working more towards a social/interactive gaming experience (whatever that means - multiplayer, more emphasis on content sharing, etc.), and that's never been what appeals to me about The Sims. I love my single-player games because I don't have to deal with other people's input, judgment, feedback, etc. Being highly introverted and neurodivergent, I just don't want to exhaust myself with MORE of other people's contributions (the nicest term I could think to use) to how I'm playing in my game. I've barely touched ANY of my Sims games in the last 6 months because EA has left such a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not sure that I will be any part of whatever the future of The Sims is. And, that makes me sad. The more I learn about the direction they're going, the more it feels like a reality that I'm probably nearing the end of my enjoyment of The Sims. I've kind of felt this coming and building up like they're appealing to newer audiences and growing their audiences, which tends to feel like their 25-30+ audience is just being ignored almost. It's feedback I've given to them in every survey I've gotten my hands on, but I don't feel like anyone's listening to that. Everything that made playing The Sims (various renditions of it) special feels like it's exiting stage left.
I'm really not trying to be the party pooper. I'm just being honest about how what EA is doing to The Sims makes me feel. I can only be honest based on my own experiences playing The Sims and playing other games and reassessing how I play, why I play, and where I want to put my money in terms of games I'll pay for and games I won't.
I agree... I feel too old for what they are going for (I am a younger millennial). I think they are trying bring in a lot of new players and prob they assume this will be a good model based on general market research and looking at games that have this more or less and are lucrative; they have mentioned Roblox I will say in many earnings calls.
I feel deeply saddened by all of this. The focus is changing in a way that is far from what I ever cared about, what I think has made the sims franchise special
That's the problem with them doing their job. Plus how the target players are teens. It is possible to please everyone but EA clearly doesn't want to go that route.
I feel like Cassandra watching the fall of Sims Troy. None of this excites me. The issue with current media and late stage capitalism is literally stuff like this, they are so focused on building "meta" worlds and chasing being the next "big thing" that they completely miss how things become successful and then we end up with crap. Minecraft did not set out to be the uber success it was, it was a game, made for gaming, then blew the fuck up. You cannot repeat that formula, you cannot make something with the end goal of it being a viral success, you have to make *good and quality* things and hope they do well. If the end goal is $$$$$ its always going to fail.

I find it very interesting and this makes me think how much of the playerbase who are not actively engaging on social media actually purchase DLCs and are very willing to spend their money on packs without caring that much or even knowing what's going on around the community / the game on social media. I feel like it may be likely that the community that is very vocal on social media might only make up a very small fraction of the playerbase. This could or may not explain why EA is very confident since they might potentially still be earning a heap load of money while a good portion of the community active on social media voicing their concerns over bugs and saying that they are not going to buy the DLCs only make up a very small percentage of the bigger playerbase. How much do you think the passive players make up the community? 60% or possibly more or less? 🤔

Generative AI, of course. I'm surprised they skipped NFTs. This isn't a game anymore. This feels like just aesthetics and digital "shopping". Also Sims 4 has so many issues that stem from the very core of the game. And they plan to keep it that way for even longer? Nah, I'm good. Can't wait for Paralives.

“Updating core technology” sounds *way* too expensive for it to actually be a base game spaghetti code fix and more like buzz words to make investors believe they can and will actually make more money for the foreseeable future.

- AI technology. Not surprising but I'm only okay with AI assisted search engine for the exchange(?) or CC search. Let's face it, Google has been doing this for years. Generative AI for CC creation though... it is giving Inzoi.
-MySims will be just be re-releases rather than making new ones. I don't see them having that kind of finesse to come up something new.
-No idea about Sims Project stories, and it is definitely NOT Sims 2 Life Stories series.
All in all Sims has relegated from being the pioneer and trendsetter back in Sims 1 to a wannabe trend follower in Sims 4. Oh how the mighty had fallen.

My main problem, currently, is not being able to install the sims 4 without DLCs. I wanted to install the base game without Seasons, for example, because my MacBook doesn't have disk space for all the DLCs I bought... And EA APP simply installs everything without my authorization.

@@SimmerErin They will likely put this AI stuff (and other things too) etc in Project Rene and they are working out some of the details in the Sims4 since it is a dumpster fire already.
But we can’t be surprised. It’s classic EA in terms of The Sims 4. They’ve got 10 years worth of research proving that people (including sceptical ones like me!) will buy broken glitchy stuff with poor game design and no ambition even when they know beforehand how bad it is. So why would they change this cash cow? Sure, many of us who care are going to jump ship just as soon as the alternatives launch. But EA knows they’ll still retain a huge chunk of players who just want to gaze at the pretty graphics and have autonomy turned off anyway 😆

Erin girl, thank you for the report but I gotta say, I'm not interested in any of this stuff they talkin bout lol...I haven't touched my Sims since the jewelry pack broke the game and just thinking about updating all my mods just for them to break again with their next "update" is so discouraging. I had a great time with all my Sims and I think i will update one day to play with them one more time and say goodbye but for me personally, it's simply time to move on. I'm just not interested in what they're trying to turn the game into. It just reeks of "live service" to me.

@@SimmerErin My game works well too, after I spend several hours updating mods. lol I was hoping for a fresh start too and their reason for not giving us one doesn't make sense. People still play past Sims games so being sooo "concerned" that players would "have to start from scratch" is bullshit. Some of us WANTED to start from scratch smh...It's just such nonsense. This is the same company that publishes a Madden game every year that is basically a roster update.

If Sims 4 going through an overhaul, might as well we start over in a new game because we have been through 3 times of starting fresh from a new base game. The notion of "not wanting the players to reset" is rather dubious imo.

We can't say "metaverse" because nobody believes that hype anymore... but at the end of the day, this is what the Hub is. They started work on it when the metaverse was still somewhat trendy, and since then they've just rebranded it, but the goal is exactly the same.
If you watch Josh Strife Hayes' video explaining the metaverse, it explains it very well. It's the exact same thing here, only with sprinkles of AI on it because that's the new bubble (can't wait for it to burst...).

@@SimmerErin It's a bit old by now and of course the metaverse as a trend has died by now, but the principles still stand because the fundamentals are not so much about technology, and more about being a business model. So in the context of an earnings call the connexion really made sense to me, but you'll forge your own opinion :) I'd love to hear your thoughts about it if you can/want.

Edit: I agree that not making a Sims 5 game will be a bad choice for EA. Sims 4 hasn't worked well for quite some time now, if they could fix it so it worked better I'd hope they'd have already done that. I'm not optimistic at all regarding any of these announcements. Guess I'll wait and see. I love the Sims and don't want to have to give up on it. Making me want Paralives out more and more. EA will most likely lose more customers due to new Life Simulation games, but I think this decision may hurt them more.

Wait nvm I thought it's just image search which is actually pretty cool but they're doing gen AI as well 😩 but these companies like to use the term AI for the most basic computer feature to attract investors... hopefully it's just a photo-to-Sim feature and not actually gen AI since Sims 4 can't use custom texture like 3
the first feature- search yeah I can see the utility of that. I less def less stoked about the second one and I too wonder how well it'd deliver anyway
Did anyone else take the sims 4 survey yesterday? There were some interesting expansion pack options. Of course the descriptions are usually more exciting than the end result -_-.

The fact that they didn’t listen to the player base and create a standalone Sims 5 is disheartening. I don’t know any players who say “I want a social multiplayer experience”. I’m guessing they’re banking on Gen Alpha as their next target demographic. And now with LBY canceled, I think the Open World dream is dead.

My goodness there's been a lot of Sims news in the last couple days, hopefully it calms down to give the content creators a break haha.
I honestly don't think Sims 5 not being a thing means we'll never get another mainline sims game. I see it as we won't get a game literally titled "The sims 5" to avoid the optics of "replacing" the sims 4. I do wonder if future games will have free to play base games like sims 4 does now.
Honestly if the story based mobile games are anything like the GBA or DS Sims 2 games then I think I'd enjoy it. Right now I feel like we have a vague outline of what's to come but we can't really pinpoint anything specific.

I'll bet project Renee still really is Sims 5, they're just diversifying their branding so that the franchise won't fail if people don't go for whatever new idea they are pushing in what is effectively Sims 5. I think it's a good idea. It'll lead to more stability and creativity for Sims. If they really want people to play every day they should make it easier to have "relaxing mode" ("ASMR") for weekdays and "fun/interesting/chaotic mode" for weekends.

Great video - good summary but I have got to a point where I am just going to play Paralives and InZoi. It's too expensive. The game is so buggy anyway and they want to add more to it, is not a good mix. I remember one of the developers saying open world wasn't possible ages ago in Sims 4 so maybe this is in Project Renee probably.

This seems an ill-fated decision by the out of touch non gamers in EA's corporate structure. This might perhaps be feasible in the future but to build an interconnected Sims universe you're going to need a solidly programmed foundation...and we know that Sims4 is not that. If I were in charge and Hell bent to chase this illusory dragon called "games as a service" my first move would be to make Sims 5 with a strong yet flexibly coded internal structure and build onward from there. I still find it concerning the moment people see the word "AI", they immediately jump and think it's the same as generative AI. Of course, we don't know for sure which AI they're talking about coz I feel like it's still so vague. It will be kind of funny / ironic if what happened to Inzoi happens to The Sims 😅

there’s a segment where they’re talking about their sports brand, and about making footballers basically have AI generated conversations with you. they said something about how they’d like to make “more believable characters like him” as a spider web of characters came out of the footballer in the centre, with a sim on the far left. they also show a game where you can ask the ai to make anything, they make a cardboard box maze with 2 ai generated characters and some weapons and stuff. like they talk a LOT about generative ai, including another game that’s like a chat room character you can share with others.
this leads me to a theory that the sims 4 will have some sort of generative ai update, either changing conversations or maybe a dlc idk. but ppl should definitely be concerned imo.

@@stevenchippss i’m personally not planning in giving a penny to inzoi and if this is how the sims franchise is going, ea won’t see another penny from me either. might even drop ts4 entirely tbh. once others are aware, i hope they do the same but most probably won’t. it’s sad but few of us really seem to care but i do think those that care about it in inzoi (and didn’t buy their statement) could drop the sims too if it becomes common knowledge
I don't mind that I had recreated my characters from Sims 2 into Sims 3 which I rarely did since I created new ones since that is how I learned how the game worked. All of this is just making me go off wanting to play Sims 4 even more. How can you fix a game that is broken at the core without it costing hundreds of dollars? How is Sims 4 going to survive for another 20 years? I just feel defeated but glad I stopped buying packs after Discovery University except for free ones.

TS4 runs on such an old game engine idk how they are going to maintain this… I don’t think there are enough bug fixes in the world to make the game enjoyable again.

This looks like its going to crash and burn I've been tapped out of actually playing sims 4 since 2018 and have been waiting on sims 5 for what feels like forever but this is like the canary of the coal mine of this franchise ive loved leave it to ea to destroy what u love, still extremly excited for paralives and ofc i can still play the sims 3 so :)

Im really glad were not getting sims 5. Because every time we get new sims, it comes out blank and u have to wait yet again for expansions and packs to come out to fill in the blanks. And yes you can still play old games but it does sort of becomes irrelevant, because you want to play new stuff

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files and make a backup.
After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.
Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

While I'm glad they're planning to "improve" TS4 and I'm glad I won't be considering a new iteration, I don't know how I feel about the other things they're talking about. None of them sound the least bit interesting to me. But as an "elder", I'm not their target audience. Very few CEOs care at all about what a 70 year old thinks or wants to buy!

A multiplayer sims game is giving roblox vibes and let's just say if I want to play roblox I play roblox. If I want to play sims a single player game I'm gonna play that. I don't wanna login and see that one of my sims is married to some rando online. I'm not against live servicw games but the sims is just not one of them.
