I'll be doing a low/no buy in 2025 as well! I love being frugal lately and making do or doing without items that I would normally have just purchased when I thought I needed it.... turns out a lot of that purchasing was just bad habits
I'm someone committed to adopt don't shop. But I would not ever talk about adopting from shelter as the the low cost or low effort option, and I think it's wrong to sell it as that. They do not come "pre trained" and like any dog require a lot of commitment and effort, often more due to trauma or poor care in their past life. They also can cost more due to health issues and being older. Each dog is unique and comes with it's own requirements. Do not think of a shelter dog as a free pet.
@penpolyon8179 I agree, I didn't mean it like that at all. My idea was that often, they have some peeing and pooping habits, but ofc that is not the case. And I didnt mean it at all that it is an wasier option. I just mentioned it because people overlook that option, so I posted it as reminder

Consider adopting a puppy from a shelter, that way they come pretrained and also you are helping an unfortunate soul have a warm home :)
