  • I get asked a lot about how I access social media in China. To cut a long story short I use a VPN. If you have never heard of a VPN before then this video will tell you what it is and everything you need to know about it. There are many VPNs available and some work better than others, even in different cities in China. Before you come ask some people and do some research about the place you are going to see what works best in that area.
This is the VPN I have always used in China. Use my link to get 3 months free on a 12-month subscription: www.expressvpn.com/nico

Many years ago when major mobile carriers in USA began to have corporations with China's telecommunication company, your monthly plan data can be roaming in China ( by using their cell tower) and you can access any Western social media sites without much of problems ( well, it is a bit slow, but hey you are overseas).
And using a VPN is not that big of a deal, especially when you only need it for your mobile phone ( when connected to local WiFi), just installed a free VPN from the app store ( iOS is harder for VPN to work, while Android is extremely easy).

In addition, you can purchase a router with a VPN function, so that all devices connected to the router can pass through the VPN, and there is no need to install a VPN program on the device. You can set to enable VPN only when you need it. In this way, the VPN will not affect the access of Chinese websites.

V2Ray, Trojan are the protocals which can be used to access social media and google etc., there are several protocals such as v2ray, SSR, Trojan, which are most popular than VPN protocal (PP2P, L2TP, IKEAv2, IPsec) and much stable and faster than VPN in China. You can build your own with V2Ray or Trojan to access social media, just purchase a VPS outside of China.

@@McFlashh I am a Chinese who went to school in the United States. I used to have a hard time understanding why our country banned foreign software. But after studying in the US for 7 years, I understand why. It's because the Western media's propaganda power is too powerful and the Chinese are not ready for it. Not all of us have the ability to identify fake news, and not all of us are ready to face all kinds of unjustified hatred against the Chinese and the Communist Party from the West. To be honest, for the first few years of my life abroad, I was outraged every time I read about China on the Internet, because the news was so incredibly out of touch with reality. It's only in the last few years that I've slowly learned how to put my mind at ease and not be distracted by these lies. This is what I, an international student who has studied in the US for 7 years, think about the firewall in China, and it really is necessary.

@@user-dh6sr3sf7e I know something about China because when I was at school we taught that China is our big brother and we should learn from China. I'm Chinese, but I was born in Kazakhstan, 50 km within Xinjiang. And I was interested about censorship because in Kazakhstan you can't criticise government and our National Leader, because we taught that he is protecting us from the West and that West is a big threat for us. And when I didn't agree with government's policy, I couldn't do anything with that, because I can't protest and our media only praised government, but it didn't talk about problems. And when I see Russian or Chinese media, it's similar to our media, same words, same narrative and same behaviour. But maybe I'm not right, in China it might be better when you can criticise government, but why you can criticise only when you're qualified for that? I know that in Europe everyone can criticise their government when it doesn't do a good job. And I think you shouldn't be an expert if you don't like some action or when you think that it could do something better. And I talked with people from China and they told me that they are not satisfied with their political rights. But I like China and our countries are friends, but I think there are some issues and I think it's weird why Chinese media doesn't talk about it a lot

Sorry, this thing can be seen on the Chinese network, the main reason is not because of this. There are many reasons. For example, the terrorist attack in Xinjiang in 2009 was contacted by Facebook, and Google can directly access pornographic sites. Including TH-cam has a lot of Chinese anti-government propaganda, these media are funded by the US government. And these American companies are not willing to accept China's legal supervision. So the Chinese government banned these apps. China used Google and TH-cam for a while, and now there are apps from some countries that can be used normally in China, but apps in the United States are prohibited. I am Chinese and I currently live in China. I have been using these apps for 7 years. I have been visiting these websites since I was a student. There are many people in China, not everyone is highly educated, many people It is very easy to be incited by some media. China does not want a color revolution. This is the reason. When I was in high school, my teacher told us what happened in Tiananmen Square in 1989. Of course, there is no such content in the history book. But on the Internet, you can read about them.
