Being someone who grew up in the 70's, these games bring back a lot of memories for me. Sitting with my family, my Dad, Grandpa, Mom, Grandma who wasn't really into football but Gramps and I were. God I really miss them. They are so special to me. We had many issues in our family, but we did love each other dearly. Thank you for the memories.

I was too young to enjoy this back in the days ..Thanks for showing me this..Washington Redskins fan of the NFL from 1985 -2020..Until name change...Hopefully we Natives can get it back if not then at least we tried ...The powers that be won't listen to us Natives that love native names and logo's on teams.

Thanks for this game! And I love hearing George Allen’ commentary along with the the silvery tones of Vin Scully.

Silvery tones. Great way to describe Vin. George was a great analyst. So interesting to hear how his mind works. Very down to earth.

Scully was one of the truly great play by play men though I associate him more with baseball than football.

Thank you so much! I love these games from the Pardee era. That era is one that fascinates me. So many huge highs and ultimate lows in both years. I really thought we had something special this season, and that loss in Dallas was just devastating. That said, it all worked out for the best; I dont think there's any way we beat the Steelers in a SB, and Gibbs wouldn't have become our coach. Still, Pardee's teams always seemed to implode right on the cusp of greatness. We also had some of the worst running backs ever in Hardemann, Malone and Harmon. Why he didn't just feed Riggins more, as Gibbs would do, is beyond me. When Riggins left after this season, we were the dregs of the league when it came to running backs. Pretty weak receiving corps here too, tbh. Anyway, great to see this stuff. I remember loving how Coy Bacon used to just destroy people.

I agree with everything you said except Clarence Harmon was a very good back. He always came through with big plays when we needed him to. He was still a lead blocker for Riggins in the 82 season through the super bowl

Harmon was a great back. He could run, catch and block. Hardemann and Malone were disappointments fer sure. Pardees time coaching the Redskins coincided with the first 16 game season- 1978 6 and 0 then 2 and 8 the rest of the way. Then in 1979 we give up the big lead to Dallas in the last game of the season and miss the playoffs. That team had playoff potential. The offense was shaping up. But as you said the highs and then the dismal lows were a feature of Jack's time there. 1980 being a losing season ending in his departure. I think his time at Houston showed what a great coach Pardee was. But unfortunately that playoff loss to the Bills kinda showed Jack's achilles heel. I think he wasnt effective at making halftime adjustments. Joe Gibbs was hailed for that over and again by John Madden on telecasts that he worked. These teams were shaping up after the 1977 departure of George Allen and having Billy Kilmer step back. I thought they would get back to the playoffs and with some holdovers from the Allen era, would get back to a Super Bowl. But i was 12 at the time. So...

@@shanetrimble9265exactly right. Harmon was a great player. He could.run, catch and block. A very capable and effective player. I think Allen misused Riggins in a role that Harmon ended up being perfect for. I thought with Riggins now being the feature back most of the time under Pardee, we were ready for a playoff run. But it never happened under Pardee unfortunately.

This is the game Jack Pardee referenced when the Skins missed the playoffs due to losing the point differential to the Bears. According to Pardee, the Redskins could have hung another touchdown on the Packers but didn't want to run up the score. So good sportsmanship may have cost them a playoff berth. But if the Skins make the playoffs in 79, maybe Pardee hangs on an extra year and Joe Gibbs ends up in Buffalo or New England or Chicago or Seattle or Baltimore or...... who knows.

Of course, if the refs don't ignore Theismann when he called timeout with 2 seconds still on the clock in the finale against Dallas, Moseley would have at least been able to attempt a game winning FG.

After this game, Green Bay would not play in Washington again for a quarter of a century. Their next game in the nation's capital would be in 2004. The Redskins made three trips to Wisconsin during the 80s, and these two teams didn't play at all during the 90s.

Joe Theisman was a "real man" quarterback, John Riggins was a real man running back, and the 1970s was REAL MAN football.

    • @MaximusWolfe

Theisman is a brittle shell of a man. Unlike Riggins he shilled for Snyder when the name change occurred. He always obsessed over optics and was as narcissistic as they come. I’ll never respect that Judas ever again.
