They beat the Falcons 24-7 in the Divisional round of the playoffs. This was by far the greatest Redskins team ever. They started the season with an 11-0 record. They had 3 shutout games in the first 5 weeks of the season. They had a playoff spot sealed up before they lost their game. They lost 2 games all year by a combined score of 5 points. That's unheard of. As far as the post season goes for, they never trailed for 1 second in the entire playoffs. Not even the '85 Bears can say that. This team deserves a lot more recognition than it gets. Joe Gibbs led this squad from September to the Super Bowl and never once strayed off course. Hail to the Redskins!
@RIP WFF The pulled starters is significant, because if that game meant something, you bet your ass they would've played 60 minutes if that's what it took to make sure Gang Grene didn't pollute the playoffs.

Yes, I agree. 1991 Washington Redskins are the greatest team ever. What Dan Snyder has done to this once proud franchise is heart breaking. The team I grew up loving no longer has the same ownership, it doesn't play in the same city, it doesn't even have the same name. Yes, it is tragic. Those of us who remember well, the glory years of the true (dignified) Washington Redskins will have nothing to do with that nauseating charade called the Washington safe spaces (“commanders”). And yes, the 1991 Redskins are the greatest team of all time. People who never saw them will deny this, but they were an awesome force, the perfect admixture of veterans and young talent, orchestrated by the greatest coach of all time, Joe Gibbs. People will deny that Joe Gibbs is the greatest coach of all time but none of them are stupid enough to contend that any coach will ever win three Super Bowls with three different starting quarterbacks, four if you include Jay Schroeder.

Much respect to a Giants fan for making a video like this. I'm a Redskins fan myself can admit how amazing some of those Giants teams were. Real recognize real!
I agree. This team is so underrated when discussing greatest ever! Such a completely dominant team! Lost to Dallas by 3, and lost the final regular season game to Philly in a throwaway game resting most starters. Blew right through the playoffs and spanked the Bills in the Super Bowl at t.he Metrodome.
1991 Washington Redskins are popular amongst fans. 1991 was a weak year. Easiest path to a super bowl ever. Lions and falcons at home. Its no wonder they fell off the map in 92 with the same roster. Fans are funny. Look at the qb when evaluating great teams.
Change is certainly tough but if you’re not a Commanders fan now, then you were never a true Skins fan. #2 on defense and it has to be remembered that a lot of the yardage they gave up was after the game was decided and they called off the dogs and started playing prevent defense. Coach Gibbs wasn't one to purely embarrass a team after the game was out of reach thus the defensive stats are not quite what the reality on the field was. True dominance.
I was at the Broncos games when Art Monk broke the NFL receiving record. And it was already out of hand by that point when the record was made. Joe Gibbs sent Rypien and his offense onto the field to just get Art into the record books. As it was a home game at rocking old RFK on MNF if I remember. He was like 4 plays from tying and breaking the record. The catch that Monk made to break the record, the 'skins were like on the 10 yard line and just marching down the field. That catch literally happened right in front of me. I was so honored to get to see history that night. I have an old Love them Hogs yellow plastic card that I got Art Monk to autograph in my collection of Redskins memorabilia. But Gibbs stopped the offense and told Rypien to take a knee to end the game, instead of scoring another touchdown. I respect Joe Gibbs because he was not a coach to run up scores on teams.
91 Redskins vs 92 Cowboys...which team is better..hmmm..im a millennial started watchin 94 but i might have 2 give 92 Dallas the edge..that's a top 5 all time team!!
The Eagles loss was a throwaway game after they locked up home field advantage, so Gibbs rested the starters. The Cowboys loss they were very flat that week and should have won that game if they were just slightly more focused - the Cowboys were not impressive in that win. The Oilers were the one team that nearly outplayed them all year - that was a close and hard hitting game that went to OT because Houston missed the game winner with no time left. They had the hardest schedule based on win percentage of any SB champion. Their first three home games were shutouts. The fourth was all special teams scores, so the defense didn't allow a TD at home until the fifth home game. Mark Rypien was only sacked SEVEN times all season. In week 16, the sub (Humphries) was sacked twice behind a second string o-line against the Eagles. Think about this: they had the defending SB champions (Giants) in the division AND the extremely GREAT Eagles #1 defense to contend with twice each and still took care of business. Their kicker led the league in scoring. I think this was the greatest and most balanced team ever. If they had any flaws, they hid them really well.
I was 6 years old that season and it was the first year I can remember football. My dad got this commemorative video about the team after that season and I must've watched it at least a dozen times growing up, really made this Snyder era seem even more heinous.
My parents were at the playoff game against Atlanta, better known as the seat cushion game.i went to the game against Detroit. Who had no chance as they were playing in one of the loudest stadiums at the time, RFK Stadium. When the crowd got riled up you, couldn't hear yourself think.
he wouldn't have even been sex seven times but he got stacked a lot in that last game against the eagles when they just took out half their starters in the third quarter
During the 4th quarter of the playoff game against the Lions, they kept running the same play over and over again, and the Lions couldn't stop them. The Hogs were pointing and saying, "We're running here next!", and the defense was helpless.
As I giants fan I hope you don’t 😂 jk. In all seriousness Dan Snyder has to go that franchise hasn’t been the same since he took full control just imo. Share this video with your friends please and thanks.

Now the redskins are gone and I have been disenfranchised I’ve finally after 40 years joined my family in rooting for the home team! So honestly it going to be easy for me to root against the commies!
I have been a fan for years, and while the greatest ever is debatable, I definitely think they deserve more respect. I have seen some media outlets call them the greatest, but the general public or NFL fan opinion seems to leave them out or don't think they stack up. This video illustrated how truly dominant they were.
I grew up in Washington DC area. And was a Redskins fan as a little boy. Somewhere I have a Redskins football helmet that has the arrowheads on the sides, dating back to when Vince Lombardi coached them. Had season tickets that season, and had super bowl tickets that season too. Our first year to get the season tickets too. My mom and brother got to go to the Super Bowl that season. They kicked ass all that season. I got to go to the NFC Championship against the Lions too. My parents were at what became known as the Seat Cushion game, when fans tossed thousands of yellow seat cushions onto the field near the end of the Falcons playoff game. I will always remember the Great Redskins teams of the 80s and 90s. Joe Gibs was a great head coach, and a great man too. Hopefully the new owner will treat them better than Dan Snyder ever did. And I do think that the '91 Redskins and the '82 Redskins were two of the best teams in NFL History too. My first NFL game I got to attend was the '82 playoff game against the Vikings when the chant "We Want Dallas" was created, and John Riggins bowed to the fans. And I was chanting along side every fan there. HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!
Remember also that Byner was the workhorse back but Gerald Riggs despite being hampered by injury in DC settled into a very productive role as the short yardage guy and Ricky Ervins was great in the Joe Washington/Kelvin Bryant third down change of pace guy
I can remember when fantasy football first came around! I showed up with no book , didn’t study who I might want that year! I picked everyone available from the Redskins and because they won ….I won!!! $$$$$ I still catch 💩 about that to this day!!!😎
I remember moving to Virginia and living in Herndon short term before living in Clifton as a child, but really as a 7 year old, the first NFL game was the week one game against the Lions at RFK. I knew very little football and I watched the Redskins destroy the Lions (without Barry Sanders) 45-0. Then after the comeback against Dallas on MNF, the Redskins again shutout another opponent in the Cardinal. I saw heir run where they destroyed teams and beat playoff teams like the Lions, Falcons, Bears, Oilers, Cowboys. They really put it all together and almost wore out that Redskins review VCR tape when I got it. The Redskins played in a tough division in the NFC East and from 1990 to 1995, the NFC East won 4 out of the 5 Super Bowls in the Giants, Redskins, and Cowboys 3 times. The Redskins were just talented up and down in 1991.
The computer generated all the teams in NFL and it brought up the 91 redskins and that was a smart computer because their domination that year was very supreme and I loved every minute of it being that I'm a 45 year fan of the Redskins. I just wish we can be half ass good as that lineup right now and we would be dominating the league right now if that was the case . But hopefully soon they gonna be resurrected ! HTTR

They shut out the Eagles earlier in the season. The reason they lost to them in the last game of the regular season was they rested their starters, thanks for the Video
Also the Skins were resting and taking out starters late in the season to keep them healthy for the playoffs. Probably the most balanced team ever, and balance was Joe Gibbs coaching philosophy.
This team was better than the '85 Bears and '72 Dolphins who played only 14 games instead of 16. 14-2, with the 2 Ls at the end of the season with backups 3 shutouts, 485 Regular season points, average of 30.3 points a game, 102 points in the POs and SB Football Outsiders and ESPN ranked them best NFL team of all time
Yep they had the greatest team of all times linebacker ... Wilber Marshall!! He is easily the most underrated linebacker I've ever seen wilber who should be in HOF! I'd say Dem 91' skins are top 3-5
They were up big against the Eagles in the last game of the season before Gibbs sat the starters. The Eagles were of no consequence. The cowboys gambled in their second game with well timed onside kicks etc and it paid off.
@@jpmace321 I'm from DC/Virginia and volunteered at Navajo reservations near Blanding/Mexican Hat/Montezuma Creek, UT. I saw a ton of Redskins jerseys there. Good thing white people became offended on their behalf and had the jersey cancelled. A jersey with a logo that was designed by a Blackfoot Indian, who took a lot of pride in his design that was respectful to the Indian culture.
Best team I ever saw. Hands down. Let’s not forget, the only reason the Eagles won that final game of the season against them is because the Redskins sat a slew of their starters for the fourth quarter. The Redskins could’ve easily blown that team out if they had really wanted to. Also, the only other team the redskins lost to went on to win the next two super bowls.
@@ckack1372 Yes, saw them both and remember them vividly. Both great teams but I put the ‘91 Redskins a notch above. Redskins had a better defense than ‘89 49ers and Cowboys from ‘92 and their offense was at almost if not as good or better than both.
Truly the best Skins and top 3 all time team hands down. Something that really stands out they might be forgotten is how healthy the stayed. I think they may have had one significant injury whereas other years they had enough to hold them back in the playoffs. This was the year they were finally able to stay healthy. Most will forget how balanced and dominant they were on all 3 phases: offense defense AND Special Teams. Watching them play was the anti Snyder skins lol. The Cowboys loss was a classic throw records out of the window rivalry game. Oof. The eagle's game if I remember correctly we are up at the half and someone got injured or got up slow and Gibbs saw or had enough and just pulled his players at the half. He knew he had the Lombardi at hand and didnt want to risk losing it to the bounty hunter bunch. Otherwise they were perfection. Shame how few Redskins there are in the HOF from this era. Everyone on that O line should be in at the very least.
I bleed burgundy and gold I myself though the 1984 team that blew the superbowl was great, but that 91 team was built with the best offense and I loved the 91 defense it was the best Redskin team of all time.
Absolutely best team ever. Two missed FGs in Dallas loss by 3, if memory serves me (I’m ****ing old), and the 2 point loss to Eagles was last game of season that meant nothing to Redskins. They had 1 seed locked up. Played mainly 2nd string most of the game, and should have even won if Wilburn (I think) had picked up late fumble deep in Eagles territory and walked into end zone, instead of knocking it out of bounds. That team dominated the league from start to finish.
I am a Washington Redskins fan since 1971. Mark Rippen played great all year and they won their last Super Bowl 🏈 in the 1991 season. Mark Rippen got his big raise, but could not play in 1992 like he did in 91, what happened you tell me?
I took my then 10 1/2 year old son to the NFC championship game at old RFK, because I sensed we'd never see another team like that one. Unfortunately, so far, I'm right.
look how beautiful the informs look (on this video/pictures), the helmets match the pants andor the shirts, the 3 colors are displayed loud and proud!, not like the mess we have now!, i miss the OLD redskins, i miss the old uniforms, HTTR!!
The loss to the Eagles was a week 17 game that didn’t matter. They already had home-field locked up. They took many of their starters out by halftime. They beat Atlanta in the divisional round 24-7 not 24-17
Washington Redskins - The classist Logo and best looking logo in all sports, its rich colors are beautiful just like the stunning feathered headdress. The best season ever the only coach to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy three times with three different QB's. We all miss the Redskins logo and will only hope that the 90k tribe members have the power to return the Redskins name and once again we long to sing the Victory song ...Hall to the Redskins, Hall Victory.....
The team everyone talked about that year was the 49rs. Shocking that the Skins went all the way that year somewhat under the radar. As a fan, I was fine with it. However, as the years went on, they never got the resoect they deserved. I also feel the 1983 Skins' were a great team, only to disappoint in the Super Bowl against the Raiders. They beat them earlier in the year and went into SB XVIII overconfident.
I'd say the '85 Chicago Bears were probably the greatest team ever, BUT indeed that Redskins team in 1991 just flat out outclassed their opposition. And the fact their only two losses were still close games shows just how good they were( they lost Week 17 only b/c they were resting most of their starters, they'd already locked up the #1 seed in the NFC & even THEN they had a lead in THAT game at Philadelphia & the Eagles need to rally late in that game to win but it still had little or no effect on the Redskins regardless ). But yeah, the '91 Redskins were definitely one of the best teams ever. I guess the only thing going against is....their '91 season was practically sandwiched in between the Niners winning back-to-back Super Bowls only a couple years prior AND then the Cowboys immediately after running off their own set of back-to-back Super Bowl wins. So, I guess, because the Cowboys had a sustained run of success soon after the Redskins' '91 season, is the reason the '91 Redskins, despite how great they were that season, kind of have gotten 'lost in the shuffle', they had such a dominant season that year....but as dominant as they were that season, the Redskins fell off dramatically just as quickly only a couple seasons later. They went from 14-2 in 1991 all the way down to a 4-12 collapse of a season just two years later. They kinda fell from grace very rapidly following their '91 campaign. And they've never returned back to prominence ever since. Combine that with all the turmoil that's followed this franchise ever since their decade of glory( 1982-1992, winning 3 Super Bowls in 4 tries ), that '91 Redskins team really does get overlooked nowadays even though that team does deserve some accolades.
I’m old, but seem to remember the ‘83 team that lost to the raiders being more dominant. They only lost 2 games (by 1 point each) and had a turnover margin of like +45 or something like that. I think that record still stands. If they woulda beat the raiders, they would be up there as one of the best squads to take the field.
If there were ever to be an all-time Final Four of greatest SB era ever, I want 1991 Redskins, 1984 49ers, 1985 Bears, and the 1972 Dolphins. I wasn't alive for the Dolphins, so if I need an alternate, I'll take the 2016 Patriots or maybe the 1996 Packers.
The 91 Redskins were unstoppable. They would've beaten the 85 Bears, 86 Giants, 84 49ers, 89 49ers and so many more. You put that team on field today, they would destroy all the competition. But, being a Redskins fan, I don't beleive they are the greatest team ever. I beleive the 83 Redskins were better. Yes, they lost to the Raiders in Super Bowl 18, but unlike the 91 Redskins, the 83 Redskins were cocky and thought the Lombardi was their's if they just showed up to the game. If the 83 Redskins had taken the Super Bowl seriously and won (which they should've), they would be considered the greatest team ever, with the 91 Redskins being a very close #2.
I can’t remember which of the bills players said this but he believed out of the 3 different teams they played in the Super Bowl, the Redskins were the best team they played
You can make this argument. They were 1 or 2 in both offense and defense. Nobody touched them in the playoffs. They were the favorite all year. They dominated that 1991 season from beginning to end if I remember right.
The 91 skins may or may not be the best team ever but I do know that in 83 they were by far the most prolific team in the NFL. They scored 541 pts. and lost 2 games by a total of 2 points Riggins ran for 24 TD's behind the greatest offensive line in history. Then the Raiders spoiled it all.
I still think the 1983 Washington team that lost to the Raiders in the Super Bowl was the best team in franchise history. The 1983 Washington team was the highest scoring offense in NFL history (541 points) until the Minnesota Vikings broke the record in 1998. Plus, the +40 turnover ratio of the 1983 Washington team is a NFL record that will NEVER be broken.
I mean football's like boxing when it comes to which era had the best, but I will say the '91 Skins rank top 5 all time. I mean the NFC East in the '80s and early '90s had coaches like Joe Gibbs, Bill Parcells, Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson and assistant coaches like Bill Belichick and Nick Saban. Fucking insane.
You make interesting points from a stats perspective. As a lifetime Skins fan, I find that conclusion hard to stomach. Perhaps it is irrational, but I think the greatest team ever should be headed by a stellar QB, and I was never a Rypien fan.
The Washington Redskins that year clinched their division and home field advantage through out the playoffs by the 11th or 12th week . Coach Joe Gibbs started resting key players and even dialed back the play book for the last 4 or 5 regular-season games. If not for that they could have easily gone 19-0. But Coach Gibbs kept his eye on the prize. He wasn’t considered a Coaching Genius for nothing.
1996 Packers were #1 on offense and #1 on defense. They were the last team to do that, I believe. 456 points scored, 210 against. They had significant injuries in the receiving corps that year mid-season. They could have easily scored more points and finished 14-2 instead of 13-3.
Not only the 91 Redskins disrespected, but the Joe Gibbs era Redskins, period. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard Al Michaels, Dan Dierdorf and others, including John Madden talked about the power teams of the 80s and the list usually goes like this, those power teams of the 80s like the 49ers, The Giants and the Bears. I’m sorry, the fucking Bears!? WTF? They won a single super bowl in 85 and you’d think they won ten the way they’re bragged up. Sure, they won the Central many times, but come on, the Central, which had The Lions, The Vikings and the Packers (who were all terrible at that time). Any 500 team could win that division every season. The 49ers, yes, they were the most dominant team of the 80s, but they were also in a terrible division. Washington was in the division with the Giants, Philly and Dallas, who were all great teams. The Giants won two Super Bowls in the same period the Redskins went to four Super Bowls, winning three of them. Even though Philly didn’t make many appearances they were still good enough then to win any of the other divisions in the NFC, they were just in the toughest division. The Redskins won more Super Bowls during the Gibbs era than any team, other than the 49ers, so how do they get left off of the list and Da Bears get a spot? In fact, Washington, as a wild card, knocked the number 2 seed Bears out of the playoffs twice, and both times in Chicago! That just proved that the Bears didn’t belong in the hunt and only hosted the games because they were in a pansy division compared to Washington, who was in probably the hardest division in history. Proof is that the East division from the 70s, 80s and 90s made the most super bowl appearances and certainly held the most Vince Lombardi trophies by a mile. Between Dallas, Washington, Philly and New York, they hold 13 trophies! That’s still more than any division have ever held. How can anyone argue it wasn’t the toughest division in history? Any team that could advance from that division was going to most likely win it all. Just appearances in Super Bowls, Dallas has 8, Washington has 4, The Giants 4 and Philly has 3, that makes 19 super bowl appearances for one division. They are the toughest in history.

People will deny that Joe Gibbs is the greatest coach of all time but none of them are stupid enough to contend that any coach will ever win three Super Bowls with three different starting quarterbacks, four if you include Jay Schroeder.

In June 2017, ESPN published an article, and all 3 writers agreed that this 1991 Redskins team was the best team for the past 30 years. They were complete, talented, and incredibly well coached!
And as Pro Football Outsiders mentioned in rankingthem as the GTOAT, they made the legendary '91 Gang Grene defense look ordinary, twice.

I agree 1991 WASHINGTON REDSKINS, I have them #1 on my list. Offense/Defense/Special Teams
That Redskins defense tore up Jim Kelly and made him sick! Brutal hits on Jim Kelly that are not allowed on Brady,Manning, or Brees
A true redskin fan, we will be back on top an win our 4th SB wait an see...
All Hail! Thank you for this excellent curation of the ‘91 team. Definitely due for another W.
And Mark Rypien was sacked 7 times in 16 regular season games! 7 times...
The Skins had an awesome offensive front line!
he wouldn't have even been sex seven times but he got stacked a lot in that last game against the eagles when they just took out half their starters in the third quarter
Joe Bugel's Hogs were the main reason that Joe Gibbs won 3 SuperBowls with 3 different quarterbacks.
During the 4th quarter of the playoff game against the Lions, they kept running the same play over and over again, and the Lions couldn't stop them. The Hogs were pointing and saying, "We're running here next!", and the defense was helpless.
Yes they we're they were very dominant in all phases of the game I loved the redskins back then just a physical monster

I have seen some media outlets call them the greatest, but the general public or NFL fan opinion seems to leave them out or don't think they stack up. This video illustrated how truly dominant they were.
Greatest team definitely most underrated
They were the best team. 👌
The Greatest...91 Redskins awesome
Remember also that Byner was the workhorse back but Gerald Riggs despite being hampered by injury in DC settled into a very productive role as the short yardage guy and Ricky Ervins was great in the Joe Washington/Kelvin Bryant third down change of pace guy
I can remember when fantasy football first came around! I showed up with no book , didn’t study who I might want that year! I picked everyone available from the Redskins and because they won ….I won!!! $$$$$ I still catch 💩 about that to this day!!!😎
I'd call them the best overall team (offense and defense). HTTR!
Truely the Best team ever!

The computer generated all the teams in NFL and it brought up the 91 redskins and that was a smart computer because their domination that year was very supreme and I loved every minute of it being that I'm a 45 year fan of the Redskins. The 1991 Redskins were the best team in NFL history. Darrell Green is the most underrated cornerback of all time, despite being a Hall of famer Famer.
They shut out the Eagles earlier in the season. The reason they lost to them in the last game of the regular season was they rested their starters, thanks for the Video
The 1983 Redskins would be in the conversation, but there was that Super Bowl against the LA Raiders........
91 was so much more complete of a team though.

Absolutely Yes... it's the way they dominated that year, it was like all the stars were aligned. Yes absolutely
Yes the greatest team of all time. Dominant on all levels back then. Definitely deserve more respect
Also the Skins were resting and taking out starters late in the season to keep them healthy for the playoffs. Probably the most balanced team ever, and balance was Joe Gibbs coaching philosophy.
As a skins fan I thank the giants for forcing us to up our game. 2/3 of our SB wins came one year after the Giants won it all.
This Redskin team was completely dominant except for a couple of games they basically destroyed every team they played.
Washington should’ve never changed its name, plus the uniform was so iconic.
This team was better than the '85 Bears and '72 Dolphins who played only 14 games instead of 16.

Combine that with all the turmoil that's followed this franchise ever since their decade of glory( 1982-1992, winning 3 Super Bowls in 4 tries ), that '91 Redskins team really does get overlooked nowadays even though that team does deserve some accolades.
best team ever
I’m old, but seem to remember the ‘83 team that lost to the raiders being more dominant. They only lost 2 games (by 1 point each) and had a turnover margin of like +45 or something like that. I think that record still stands. If they woulda beat the raiders, they would be up there as one of the best squads to take the field.
That Superbowl was one of the more depressing days of my life. The Skins just didn't show up for that game. Sad.
@@kathleenblack9735 Days?!…I’m obviously still depressed over this after 39 years! Damn we’re old.😭
Oh and in short yardage situations they brought in Gerald Riggs who scored a bunch of 1/2/3/4 yd touchdowns throughout the season and the playoffs.
Agreed.
GREAT VID
You can make a very good case for that team being the best team ever they were dominate
HTTR BABY!!!!!!!!!
You make interesting points from a stats perspective.
As a lifetime Skins fan, I find that conclusion hard to stomach. Perhaps it is irrational, but I think the greatest team ever should be headed by a stellar QB, and I was never a Rypien fan.
Rypien was great that year. No one better in the long ball. 1991 was a great year.

Alot of Hall of famers on that team
