At the peek of his career he turned his back on fame & success to live on a Native American reservation in New Mexico, teaching music to children and sharing his simple hope of the gospel of Jesus. 26 years ago, at the age of 41, Mullins lost his life in a car accident on the way to do a benefit concert in Kansas. Something I found that’s really cool is “78 Eatonwood Green”(Live at FBC). He and his band wrote this one in Ireland amongst others I guess. The whole song is Mullins on dulcimer w the band. So talented.
I've been wanting to learn to play a hammer dulcimer for a little while now. My family on both sides are Russian Germans, and the Russian Germans played this kind of instrument. It's so beautiful, I'd feel most honored to be able to muster this skill!
The ones I’m using here are Dusty Strings. They are probably my favorite hammers I’ve ever used! Their bounce and responsiveness make them so easy to play with. Since they are on the larger/heavier side however, it can be slightly more difficult to make large jumps across the instrument. But for me the pros outweigh the cons. They are the #7 double-sided large on this page: manufacturing.dustystrings.com/products/hammers
Also, if your dulcimer has more narrow string spacing they might be difficult to use without making mistakes because they have a large striking surface, but it looks like DS has a smaller version on that page (#6)
This one I built myself with a friend of mine, but some good dulcimer makers I know of are Dusty Strings, Songbird, Master Works, and Rick Thum to name a few. You could probably find more recommendations on forums and FB groups
